Using a Rock Tumbler to create faux Sea Glass. Easy three day tumble.

A friend of my daughter asked if I could tumble a small bag of sea glass she had bought. Of course I leapt at the chance to do something different, not just different but also Quick! I shall be trying more of this in future and trying different ways to tumble glass, so watch this space!

You're going to think I'm copying your video ideas. I have a video all done where I tumbled beach glass too. I'm not sure when it will get posted, but Tuesday is a possibility. Your video was much more concise than mine.

I've been saving glass bottles for months because they were so pretty (esp. the green San Pellegrino bottles) but wasn't sure what I was going to do with them. This is a great idea! 😊

Great video, thank you. I have lots of sea glass which are still quite sharp edged and wondered what to put in with them in my tumbler..this really helped a lot 😊

Sea glass is pretty soft compared to agate type stones so a 120 grit carbide or aluminium oxide grit will do the job. Plastic beads or pea shingle might help. (with water!) Just run for a day or so. Good luck.

It is quite a fun thing to do, try to get thick glass. Creating a supply of empty beer bottles is also a fun thing to do! Best of luck.

Hi when you do a stone in the tumbler does it take 12 weeks to polish? Also is the grit and other things easily available

Hi, a stone tumble can take anything from 4 to twelve weeks depending on how rough the stones are to start with. The grits are relatively easy to get though it is worth shopping around. I have started to use Aluminium oxide grits which are cheaper than Silica carbide.Best of luck!

Could you tell me the name of the grit and the gravel I need for this please?

Hi Tracy, I would use Aluminium Oxide grid grade 120 (or thereabouts) probably all you need. If you want to go finer try 240 grit as well. The gravel is just pea shingle I collected from the beach, you could even find this on a gravel drive. Choose roundish smooth pebbles. Best of luck with this.
