I've watched you for some time. I'm a wood worker and carver. I tried to make a flute but failed miserably. Thus my respect for those of you who make Native American flutes have my total respect.

Friend, the first try will always fail, like anything in life, practice makes perfect. I've started making flutes thanks to this channel. In a week I must have made a total of 15-20 attempts. Every one I make is better than the last one, provided I learn something new. Do not give up!

It's Lengthy, however it is important to know that humans are still more capable of understanding and creating at this point.

I have built a total of one Native American style flute. It is marblewood because that is the wood I had. Though not perfect, it plays sounds I find enjoyable. This video demonstrated a neat experiment! Sheesh, the reach needed for the AI generated flute would be hard for me and I have long fingers. Your flutes and videos are wonderful. I plan to try making the 4 hole pvc whistle next.

The fact that you like the way your flute sounds is the most important thing! Thanks for watching our videos!

Charlie, your video aptly demonstrates that there is more to making the Native American Flute than just algebra and a list of measurements, which is all of the information that an A.I. can draw from to "create" plans for a flute. What A.I. lacks is lived experience and human intuition. As you are well aware as a flutemaker, there are certain intangible factors intrinsically acquired through lived experience in flutemaking that are difficult to articulate, you can "see and feel " almost intangible factors and nuances that effect a flutes playability and responsiveness, things that don't readily translate into simple cold schematics or strict numeric parameters. Just my wordy 2 cents worth 😉

Beautifully said my friend! Very insightful and to the point! Without these verbose and lengthy descriptions, we aren't truly "communicating"! Thank You!

Never thought about using AI to design a flute the tune possibilities would be endless 🤔

Absolutely my friend! You probably remember an old sharing app called BearShare I bet also! I wore that t-shirt out until eventually I cut the pattern off the front of it with the little bear wearing headphones. Nice to hear from a fellow Gen-Xer!

I really dig that necklace. Is there a name for that particular style where the beads are small on the ends and work their way up progressively towards the biggest bead in the center?

Not really sure. Sorry. I can tell you that a very dear friend made the green beads by hand, as did I the red stones.

Pretty cool experiment: If I asked the same question, I would have laid out everything as suggested and it would have probably functioned. With you, you instinctively knew the design flaws due you your knowledge AND experience. With a combo of those 2 you understand the subtleties involved. AI is a 3year old kid. It has a vast knowledge base but it lacks finesse. I’m wondering right now if your corrections will impact its answers if someone new asks for design based on the specs originally provided will it give what you taught it or maybe add some refinements on the design based on what it “learned”. I’m about half way through your video @ placement of the sound hole and your interaction with AI struck me as very profound…Anyhow thanks for what you do

What was that other style of flute you mentioned? A "fajar?" Never heard of that, and I'd like to look it up. No idea how you spell it though hehe.

Maybe AI will take down the internet and we’d have to learn to talk to each other in person again 😉 Or maybe it’ll just be a silly thing, I’m not a doctor.
