Thank you so much for these lessons, I am excited to learn to play! Question- would it damage or compromise the flute in any way if I wanted to add an artistic wood-burning design to my flute?
@BlueBearFlutes
@BlueBearFlutes 14 сағат бұрын
@myluvpaws4949 it should not. Just keep anything away from the sound hole area of the flute. Everything else should be fine. Of course don't puncture the inside of the flute either with a hole too deep from the outside. Otherwise, I think you've got it!

I just invented a smart NAF that doesn't wet out. It has a duel slow air chamber system filled with desiccant beads. The flute also works as a rattle/shaker that you can play in your recording sessions. Soon to be Blue"bear"tooth enabled.

I actually just came across this video because I am searching for help regarding my flute separating or de-laminating at the seams on one side. It is not a Blue Bear flute. (I won't mention the name of the flute maker publicly, but he has flutes for sale on Etsy, at gift shops in the southwest and through Ebay). Once the seam began to separate on one side, I have used leather strips to tie the flute down tighter, but I can tell the sound is a little bit off from the air escaping near the mouthpiece. The flute itself played very well before it began to separate. The flute maker does not seem to have a way to be contacted directly. Do you think there's a way to go about fixing this?
@BlueBearFlutes
@BlueBearFlutes 9 күн бұрын
@OfficialMacDanzig First of all, this was a very well written and respectful comment to everyone involved. And most importantly, yes it is fixable. What I would do is use Super Glue and numerous clamps to squeeze it down tight. I do offer a repair service at a reasonable price and you'd be welcome to contact me through my website if you're interested.
@Mac_Danzig
@Mac_Danzig 9 күн бұрын
@@BlueBearFlutes Thank you so much. Although the seam separation spans quite a long stretch of the flute, I believe that the gap itself is so small across the edge (It's a very small crack) that I'd really have to open it up more in order to glue it, so I'd rather have you help me with it. I'll be contacting you soon!

Back in the day (2005) I used to ship all my flutes in those white paper tubes with a small piece of bubble wrap on the ends of the flute so it fit tight in the tube. Probably used 1 Square foot of bubble wrap but those tubes aren't as cheap as they used to be. Shipped about 100 flutes like before my workshop burned down. For a long time when someone would make a comment like yours, my regular subscribers would go and tear them up but I think they've just gotten burned out on it. I do appreciate that your comment was much more polite than most of the others in this particular case since they all felt betrayed believing that their "skill set" would allow them to make a flute for $7 out of anything. I do have other videos showing how to make flutes for free from numerous types of materials using pocket knives or hacksaws. If you're interested in that kind of thing, please check them out. Hi Charlie, this looks quite easy to make. Does the length of the slow air chamber (SAC) matter with these PVC flutes? The wooden flute that I bought had a SAC of at least 8 in, but perhaps this is a more traditional design? I am seeing some other NA style PVC flute makers keeping the SAC length short as well, perhaps its easier to push a dowel or cork through it.
@BlueBearFlutes
@BlueBearFlutes 14 күн бұрын
That's a great question my friend! I believe I actually did a video that included some of this topic as well however the short answer is no. The length doesn't matter too much. I have actually lengthened my flutes air chambers in order to make them more aesthetically appealing to the public. Historically they were all over the place as well as in modern times! Thanks for the great question!

I just spent 1 1/2 days building my first branch flute with hand tools from willow and it’s a big learning curve….thought I’d nailed it on my first attempt but once I started drilling finger holes to tune I realised something was wrong. It’ll play the bottom 3 fine (but a bit airy I think it’s called) and anything above that is doomed) If you want a giggle I’ll send it to you as long as you promise to tell me which bit or bits I cut wrong? You are so masterful! I am mesmerized with your playing. Stumbled here to make a whistle for a young friend. He knew I whittled ‘ sticks’ so he brought me one to make a knife or sword. Being five it is his obsession. I explained that his mother would not like that and he left the stick. I made a poor effort with the stick he provided but the sound was feeble. He asked for a better one and here I am. After making three eagle whistles I have a reasonable facsimile that works. Thank you. I had to rotate the plug about 45 degrees to get the to work. I think I will attempt a flute next.

Just curious why do you burn in most of the holes and stuff?
@BlueBearFlutes
@BlueBearFlutes 20 күн бұрын
Actually a couple of reasons. The first reason is it's the most convenient way to microscopically resize a hole. The second reason is because cauterizing the hole stops it from being able to absorb or release moisture which will prevent it from cracking in the future. There are other reasons that I burn the tracks into flutes.
