I bought a 43 inch 4K OLED TV as monitor....the only thing what bothers me is "why did I not buy one earlier?" It's just perfect, the sharpness, the birghtness...just amazing. Office work is top notch, watching videos, movies of couse too and the initial reason why I bought one: photo editing is just a breeze. Everyone who is considering a 4K TV 43inch+ as a monitor and has enough space for it....just do it, you won't regret it

You hit the nail on the head: reassurance that this would work. I want to continue to do word processing and web browsing by with more real estate. For me, I would like two 24” screens in one, so a 48” TV screen seemed smart. I got the idea because it seemed “tv” screens seemed cheaper but promised 4K. My concern was the OLED, QLED, etc. issues that quite frankly confused me. At present I haven’t picked out a monitor yet. But this gives me hope I’m on the right track. Thank you. 😊

Great vid. It describes my situation almost exactly and thoroughly convinced me to take the plunge. Currently running a 42" HDTV with a 20" on the side and it's damn near ideal. The only place it falls short is when playing driving games. I just bought a PS5 and plan to play a lot of GT7 and want that view to match the true to life scale as close as possible. Other than that the TV is mostly used as a PC monitor. I rarely watch TV or movies on this thing but I also have the option to sit further back on a couch at the other side of the office. 55" sounds like a pretty ideal option for all scenarios without being too overwhelming at a 3-4ft viewing distance.

Just got the 48in one for doing web dev / audio production / ps5 gaming, thanks for making this to reassure this was a good idea.. Breaking it up into zones is absolutely key, but the default 4 quadrant thing where you can drag a window to each of the 4 corners of the monitor seems to be good enough for me. I have it on my desk right now but I'm planning on mounting it to the wall to get extra height and possibly pull the desk back a little bit futher. Also, I recommend turning on 'dark room mode' to keep the brightness in check, turning on low latency mode of course. I'm still getting a tiny bit of input lag though that I can see as I'm typing this.. not sure if there's anything else I can do about that.

I have an LG Oled 55 as well and sit about 3 feet away and I will say that it is excellent for productivity as I also like to keep many of my apps open and in view. I had a PG35vq and it got damaged while moving...... I went form a 200fps screen to a 120 on the Oled and though I am not a competitive game, I can feel the difference. 1 - 4K has more pixels that ultrawide 2 - No DP 1.4 on this and we are at HDMI 2.1 that has limit of 4K @ 120Hz. As it is an Oled screen the image quality excellent and you can also watch TV :) So far I have had no issues with burn in but it has only been 6 months. If you like to play FPS games, this might not be the optimal solution for you.

Thank you very much for this quality video, which reinforces my choice. I'm thinking of investing in a Panasonic OLED but I'm still hesitating between 42 and 55 inches. I suppose I'd have less of the "problem in the corners" with a smaller dimension and theoretically... more pixels per inch... is often better... especially at this viewing distance. Thanks again!

@@ChrisWatkinsMedia Thanks for your video, I just found it as I was looking for information before I buy an 55" LG G2 TV. I am very curious about the exact setting you are using, and also how many hours is your TV on on a daily basis. It's very promising, that a 2020 model LG OLED TV is still free from any burn in issues, but I'm sure that it is at least partially due to your settings. This kind of experience would be very helpful for many people as more and more users are buying large, OLED TVs to use as monitor. It' s maybe even worth a short Video too, there's a lack of videos about such specific and long term experiences with OLED TVs and even less Info is available about 55" and B series OLED from LG regarding a usage as a monitor.

Thank you for making this video. I am in a similar situation, where my ultra-wide 49" monitor went out. The price of an OLED 48 & 55" tv makes it hard to justify the price of the newer higher end ultra-wides like the 49" Samsung AG900 Neo G9 at $1799. I can get a 48" Sony OLED 120hz with at least 1 HDMI 2.1 for $950. I was on the fence between a 48" and 55". I could accommodate either size but when you mentioned full screen gaming, that was one of my biggest concerns. I only sit 25-29" away from the screen and I don't like gaming in windowed mode. You have helped me decide on going with a 48" is probably a better fit for me.

I've been using a 40" Samsung (~2017 QLED) for home and work (COVID) because the PPI (pixel resolution) at 40-43" is >100, so completely usable and a lot cheaper and prettier then most monitors at the time and price point. My only reason for upgrading is I've gotten into video/photo color correction (hobby) and OLEDs (C1 or A80J) or ultra bright miniQLEDs (Samsung QN90a/TCL R646/Hissense U8G), offer brighter ( HLG/HDR) options, with greater contrast , but run 48-55".

I use a 24" 4K monitor at 100% scaling, dividing it into four 12" 1080p quadrants. It's like having four laptop screens. I could see myself enjoying a 4K monitor up to 32 inches, but my desk can't handle two of those. I have a second 24" 4K monitor on the left side of my desk that I only use when my VariDesk is raised, and I am walking on my LifeSpan desk treadmill. I place the same content on each monitor because I tend to be using one or the other, depending on whether I am sitting at the right side of my desk or standing and walking on the left side. With a 55" TV as a monitor, I would want it to be 8K so I could just use it to replace both 4K monitors and then only raise my keyboard and mouse with a tray instead of raising everything with the VariDesk.

I've used TV's almost exclusively. 55 Inch is the sweet spot IMO. I ususally set up with touchscreen monitors on either side, in either a single portrait, of dual stacked landscape displays on either side. The only issue you'll face with a single tv as a display is the lack of snapping options to utulize the screen real estate, but that can easily be solved with some relatively cheap software solutions.

Hey buddy, watch a lot of yours's, Great job. Any possibility of you doing one on your SETTINGS. I have one for productivity and have no clue as to what does what. LOL I could not even get it to acknowledge my computer. I used HDMI and tried USB-C as well. I have a display port as well, So even the most basic's would help as well. If you could show that it would sure help old farts like me. LOL Thanks so much

Hi Gregory :) glad you like the video. I will try and get around to dooming a settings video for sure but if you’re struggling to get it to even work I’d suggest joining my Facebook group, there’s a link in the video description. If you can post a video of what happens when you plug it in then either me or someone else will definitely help! :)

So i recently got in to pcs but I've realized that a whole desk for a 27 inch monitor and a pc simply not fit In my room so i thought why don't I get a bed table with wireless equipment for the pc and use it on my bed and I believe 120hz is enough for gaming I also bought the LG c1 55 so what do you all think smart idea or no......

What is the distance from your eyes to the TV 55"? And what dimensions does your desk have? I am interested in the LG C1 48" with a desk of 200x96cm

@@ChrisWatkinsMedia Thanks for the information! The LG Oled TV stand takes about 25cm on the desk in the deep of the 96cm wide Desk of mine. And my eyes could be 90cm away from the screen too. The only thing, I read about burn-in in the first 2 years and shortly after 2 years of using or later from customers. Thats the only thing, which looks maybe it isnt longstanding specially using it as a monitor instead as a TV only. For my only for office, reasearch, music listening and Movies/ Series.

@@ChrisWatkinsMedia What about the automatic brightness limiter (ABL) from LG to protect the Oled screen? I have read that the color white is shown as grey. Maybe I would be fine with it, but I also read that it goes high and low on the white color everytime and first its brightness white than it needs seconds to low the brightness and change to grey. How is it, how fast from white to grey and noticable? And is it switching a lot from white to grey? Only through browsing and word?

Have tried to connect my windows computer to my LG OLED TV. All I get is the desktop background and audio. For instance when I play this video on my TV the audio comes from the TV while the video is displayed on the monitor. The only thing on the TV is the background, menu bar, and audio. No desktop icons, no apps on the menu bar just the Windows menu. I can select the menu Windows Logo and it shows the menu but, when an app is selected it runs on the computer but, the audio come from the TV while the video plays on the computer monitor. this is my second attempt to make this work, to no avail. has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?

If work is what your doing on the monitor then why not just buy a 55" desktop monitor instead of compromising? The big desktop monitors exist. Even a conference monitor would match the native color gamuts like sRGB and Adobe RGB better than a television?

Criss hi I consider to buy LG OLED C2 48/55 inch TV as PC monitor TOO. And like you, I need larg screen, displaying simultaneously open documents, to work on their textual content. I ask you if 48 or 55 inch OLED, will give me the crispness and sharpness of text, in regular phont size, using the TV with the same distance as I would use regular PC monitor, say 24/32 inch. It is just very hard to perform the test in a shop technically. I would appreciate if you share with me your experience in this textual direction, helping me to take the decision. And on the same line, would 55 inch be too gross pixels to yield the sharpness and crispness of the letters, without straining my nose and eyes too much to "decypher" the text with two pairs of glasses... Thanx for your advice (in Addvance) Geri Reshef, israel
@ChrisWatkinsMedia
@ChrisWatkinsMedia Жыл бұрын
Hi Geri, yes as long as you use the correct HDMI port then text would be just as clear as on a pc monitor. I made the mistake of using the wrong HDMI port the first time i plugged mine in and I thought I had made a huge mistake. It is honestly perfect and I dont think it would matter which size you went for I think they would both be very similar.
