Oyster Mushroom kits are the easiest of all of our beginner kits. They are very reliable producers and tend to yield large flushes of mushrooms. They are also the easiest kit to get subsequent fruitings and should reliably produce a second flush or more of mushrooms.

Cooking:
Oyster Mushrooms have been the staple edible mushroom at North Spore since we first started growing mushrooms. The classic North Spore recipe is to chop the oyster mushrooms and sauté them in a heavy pan on medium heat with butter, garlic, and loads of fresh thyme and rosemary (or whatever other herbs you happen to have on hand!). Cook until the mushrooms have released their liquid, then continue cooking until that liquid has cooked off and the mushrooms begin to brown. This can take from 20-30 minutes. Deglaze your pan with a splash of white wine, reduce once more, and finish with a touch of heavy cream. Season generously with salt.

So I ordered a blue oyster log from you last week. Processing is taking a little longer because of covid-19 so it's not shipped yet. But if I turn out to be successful and want to keep doing it inside my house, do you sell this bag to grow a larger amount?

Yes, sorry about the processing times. Everything is slowed down for us right now, but we will get your kit out! We do sell spawn, filter patch bags, and everything else you'd need to do an indoor grow! Good luck with your kit!

I just bought 2 kits that are about ready to pick are these single use and I noticed this was already answered in the comments let me rephrase can I just turn the bag over and cut another slit and will it regrow that way or do I to use the same side more than once

Awesome! You can usually get 2-3 flushes out of one kit and then if weather permits you can bury it outside for another flush or 2. No need to cut another side of the bag as you will just increase the chance of the block drying out. Just keep spraying the same area and if you don't see progress after about a week you can soak the block for about 20 minutes and then turn the kit over to drain it and keep spraying!

Do they need to be put in a tent or tub? I assume room temp and keep moist.

Putting them in a chamber can definitely help, but it's not necessary with oyster mushrooms - they are very adaptable.

Oysters will regrow readily. You can easily get three flushes or more of one kit

@@NorthSpore is this the same processs is I make my own inoculated bag. Or do y’all use a special process ? My other question if you can is will this variety grow in a monotub? Also your mono tub video helped me out so much. 🤣

Just found your channel. I have foraged oyster mushrooms since I was a kid. About 15 years ago I had the idea to grow them myself but have been busy with work and family. Since y'all seem to have some experience, I have a couple of questions. Could you inoculate logs with the spawn? Also, if I pick wild mushrooms, do you think it's possible to inoculate other logs if I cut the base of the stalks and use them to inoculate? I guess that would be trying to propagate them. I'm a medical technologist, and I have a level of understanding how mycelium can be vegetative, but I am not very experienced in mycology. I'm just wondering if I could inoculate a clear log from the mushrooms on a producing log.

Theoretically you could... that said, it's far less likely to be successful than using mushroom spawn to inoculate your logs (we have a whole video on the subject!) You could attempt to make a straw oyster mushroom bed inoculating with oyster mushroom stems. In my mind that would have more likelihood of being successful.

@@NorthSpore Thanks for the reply. You verified my assumption. I watched videos from mushfarmer and he has some great straw logs. One day I will have my lab and grow rooms set up, but for now, I'm trying to get some natural colonies going on my property. I have some wet areas and our winters are perfect for oyster mushrooms. I will be watching y'all's videos often. When I get further along, y'all's products look great and I will order. Again, thanks for the reply.
