You read my mind! I wanted to do that. I just started with Instax.

to get closer portrait one can use close-up lens (+1 will work for 1m believe) in front of the lens (focusing has to adjusted per close-up lens table). The camera manual could tell you how to set focus with theese close-ups (like instead of 1.5m set focus to infinity to get sharp images). And good thing you can use contemporary close ups - just holding them in front of the lens. Also to check if manual/ close-up work ok focusing hits were it should - one can use piece of backing paper sticked with tape to open camera back when there is no film in it and mark “sharp” position with marker on distance scale. Laser rangefinder could help with exact distances.

There is an Accessoire for shooting instax Film on 35mm cameras like the canon ae1. So you could use fast lens es like 1.4. But the Glas and prism in this Accessoire needs much light.

Great info!!! I have never tried this but maybe i will now!!! I will say even with a "real" instax camera I do get occasional developing issues!!!
