Good video and great to see you making the most of the equipment. I agree that brands should design sails and boards that cover multiple disciplines but still have good free race performance - same goes for versatility in wave sailing. The issue for me is money and space as I can only take so much equipment to the spot and I want to have options to maximise the conditions. I think this is being explored - Patrik Race SF and Tabou Fifty are examples. Foiling is still very new compared to fin and if the brands want to develop specialist sails, they should be allowed to do so. What they learn from specialist development may benefit hybrid designs. Product development takes time and money so will not happen overnight but it feels like going in the right direction. If you look at the success of wing foiling I think people are willing to sacrifice performance for less complicated kit and a smaller quiver with increased portability.

I use a convertible foil sail on my 1990's longboards. It's not perfect, but it is all about necessity and time on the water.

I completely agree with your assessment. I lack the funds and space to have 10 sails. So, I'm only on fin and gave up foiling.

same for me!!

Yap only 2 Slalom Fin sails from 12 to 30 kt not more Stuff and Stop of foiling I am not reach !

I use the same sail for both, add a foil for light wind, that's the optimized "minimal" setup. A foil replaced the larger sail

Great video, keep up the good work. I have Naish RN high aspect foil sail and use on fin all the time, just need enough wind to get going, and then the wind can increase to the max and the sail can handle it no issue. High aspect sails have a short boom, so gybing is so easy, and top end is quite respectable. So I agree with your point, let's give our wives a chance to cool down by not having to buy a million bits of kit to store all over the house. Windsurfing is not about needing a spreadsheet to figure out what kit you need to take the the water. Water Speed Beer. Amen

100% agree. i tried slalom sails on foil and foil sails on slalom. I believe one race sail for both would is doable at a very high level of performance.

Agree. Only one racesail for both disciplines.

Agree fully. Last year I severely consolidated my windsurfing gear. I don’t race though…

Right, people shy away from windsurfing because of the immense gear... hybrid boards like Tabou fifty and crossover sails are the only chance to attract more people to this awesome sport

I have a SIC Marlin convertible and agree windsurfing and windfoiling are awesome, but I quickly learned wing-foiling on it and prefer lugging around a 90l board now with a small bag of wings instead. I do hope windsurfing/foiling survives.

If I am not mistaken, Point 7 is the only brand that makes hybrid sails. Granted that these sails are not purpose-built for the professional track, I want to purchase one to provide a low wind option for my quiver without increasing sail size by "less than one size": I currently have a 7.1 sail and the next size would typically be a 7.8. With the F1E 7.4 however, I would hit the low wind range with the same effect that the 7.8 "fin sail" would.

I don't plan on buying hybrid sails but anticipate using my '23 8.7 GA vapor less when my my new GA vapor air 8.5 and 7.4 arrive. I still enjoy the 7.7 GA vapor 71 manta combo in full tilt conditions and at this point, I don't anticipate wanting to foil when my heart is still enjoying fin this much. So don't be asking to dumb down the race sails just yet, I'm still using it.

I'm on the fence with your assessment. Obviously we don't want to go back to the days of custom boats and sails, but I think it is still important for the elite guys to be using the best gear possible. Already foiling is getting far beyond the average recreational windsurfer, given the huge speeds now achievable, and the total destruction of gear when crashing at those speeds. Just for that reason alone, I want to see the limits being pushed even more, purely for the spectacle, and unfortunately that won't be possible with dual purpose sails.
@surferkaspert46792 ай бұрын
But the crashes will look the same at 33 knots and 34 knots🙂. I think a simpler design will make the speed progress development a bit slower maybe a year or two but in the end we will in the same place and on the way some of the pwa guys vertebrae might have suffered a bit less.

I've sailed my jp135 foil board with severne foil glide 6.0 and fin no issue ... Not as good as pure slalom but still good fun

Another example: Sailworks 2 cam Flyer foil sail was also advertised for use on a fin board. The 3 cam Flyer FR foil sail is more stable / faster sail and not advertised for a fin board. However, I don't think either of these sails are pure foil "racing" sails. Isn't IQ foil sailing relatively minimum equipment requirement?

It must be Easy on your backhand. So you can have more fun🤙

Problem is that at the end we only get foil sails. Competition is never at winds that vin is quicker nowadays. Only speedsailing is special

Same rule should apply to boards as well then, one board for both disciplines.
@user-sc3xm5lc4z2 ай бұрын
fin slalom and foil slalom should be two seperate disciplines. its like mixing boxing and kickboxing into one discipline. very unfair.
@surferkaspert46792 ай бұрын
Totally agree, but being able to use the same sails for both disciplines will make life cheaper and simpler

Valid point with only one type of racing sails. FOMO is big to have not the right gear for these or that conditions.

did you use the foil mast or the fin mast?? i have same sails and i did the same test with 5.8.. didnt like it at all
@surferkaspert4679Ай бұрын
For the 6,8 I use an Avanti mast for the 5,8 I have K80 430 Rdm and for 7,8 the k80 490 sdm. I have only used the 6,8 on the fin
@KonstantinosLaliotis-gi7qiАй бұрын
@@surferkaspert4679 the mast you used did the sail more fin friendly but you loose the high range for the foil. I felt that i couldnt push the fin with the foil sail, its so different, so i will not try it again
