Awesome technique. I have sometimes been doing this with Sound Toys Decapitator recently. Great way to thicken up sounds! Also, that erosion automation is tooooo dope, it absolutely chops! 🔥

gotta be careful when you use eq in parallel. Will cause phasing unless its a linear eq

Not really in this case, the heavy distortion already changes the waveform quite a lot, so much in fact that it wouldn't cause much phasing highpassing it so high you are getting rid of the low end completely. Note I'm getting rid of the low end completely, the area where the phasing would be most noticeable and from judging the waveform of the send track alone, after the processing I did the phase still roughly aligns taken into account the extra peaks and harmonics created by the artifacts of the distortion. Using a linear phase EQ is also not always ideal, since most linear phase EQ's will introduce a thing called pre-ringing, this will soften drum transients and cause other issues potentially, so this is also not an ideal solution and you have to be careful with it.

ARTFX even though the waveform is changed the fundamental phase of the sound will remain. on a bass you don’t have transients to worry about so pre ringing shouldn’t be an issue

@@Barnet310 That first of all depends on the bass, a percussive bass might just have a transient. However that aside, I'm removing all the low end here, so that fundamental isn't even going to be there afterwards so like I said, any little phasing introduced in the mid-range (if there is any even) will be negligible. Just use your ears, if it sounds good, then that's all that matters.

Nice tut man,tho, I would have never sent my bass over there, return tracks tends to fuck up the phase, specially when you EQ it and since I look for no comb filtering in my bass, I would have never done it... Btw, when will you come back to shorter videos format like this one ? The 5 hours live streams are kinda killing it for me :p

ARTFX How do you understand that the track is over? For a month of work, any musical composition may bother your ear and you may want to refresh it .... which will also take time ..... and so it can go on forever ....

Hi art when mastering I always push my tune to far and distorts/ruins the frequency range, any way of stopping this? Compressor settings etc? I don’t want to loose my loudness though

Having a better mixdown should help, it's usually the sub being too loud that triggers the compression too heavily, but you first need a solid mixdown. Getting your track to sound good and loud is more about the mixdown that the mastering, a good mix only needs a volume push on the master track.

@@sxm4158 That depends on the track imo, but usually kick and snare loudest in the mix, sub just below that, then mix everything else around that.

Great tutorial, though it sounds like you are speaking off-axis to your mic. Now and again your voice will be clear, like you're on-axis, but most of the time it's a bit muffled as if you've turned away.
