Named the show “Shogun”… But the protagonist is a British guy, and he takes up most of every episode. The show should be called “Blackthorn‘s crazy adventures in Japan.” We already saw “The Last Samurai,” FX. That’s not what we thought we were signing up for.

They've been doing a PHENOMENAL job with this series. I reread the book last summer, before I even knew they were making this. They've been so dedicated to the historical accuracy, and the results are amazing. They've even been fixing historical inaccuracies from the book in the show. Beyond that they made the show their own. For the most part, the changes they've done made sense, and the way they're giving some of the more ancillary characters from the book their own life on the screen, in a way that feels genuine. 👍

Ten thousand percent correct. I've had students cut themselves six ways to Sunday just *transporting* live blades. Fortunately, nothing truly serious, but just like the unloaded gun shoots the loudest, you have to be super-respectful with sharps when you have lots of people milling about.
@ricardodemarco34864 ай бұрын
Also, katanas feel a lot heavier than other swords (carry more momentum) and need a bit more of training on the swordsman’s part to not loose control of the blade and hitting things and people unintentionally.
@digitaljanus4 ай бұрын
They _are_ heavier. They weigh as much as a European longsword, which is on average almost a foot longer than a katana.
@ricardodemarco34864 ай бұрын
@@digitaljanus my point about the “feel heavier” is because the center of mass on a katana is generally further from the handle than in a longsword. Katanas do not have distal taper nor pommel to counterbalance the weight of the blade, therefore more mass is located near the center of the blade rather than the handle or guard.
@gwynbleidd19174 ай бұрын
@@digitaljanuslongswords only weigh 2.5-3.5lbs, and so do katanas. An arming sword weighs only slightly less, and not even all the time. Stop propagating misinformation.

*does not apply to rapiers or small swords, which were balanced such as to be tip light for thrusting.
@gwynbleidd19174 ай бұрын
@N2theBlue1 yeah, but rapiers share the same weight averages as longswords, whereas smallswords are usually between 1-2lbs. Albeit a rapier's weight is centered towards the hilt since the hilt is complex and heavy, making most rapiers handle very nimbly.

After everything that happened to Brandon Lee and Alec Baldwin.... Why risk it for something so small as cutting paper? Yeah until someone accidentally lets go of a katana and FATALITYs someone or cuts some part off themselves. On the movie the punisher they were using a real knife and fake knife and it never got switched out properly and he stuck the real knife right in Kevin Nash s chest. Im surprised he lived it went all the way in tight above his heart. But these movies ans tv shows never learn about using real knives and ammunition. Also John Claude Van blinded a guy on a movie by poking him in the eye. This happens all the time.
