NDI is the way to connect internally your inputs/outputs to programs in PC, lets say Decklink Quad into VMix and then connect to Zoom or Teams. Have been using Decklink Quad for 6 years and it performs superbly, for exampel 3 camerainputs and 1 recorderoutput, impressive.

Correction; unfortunately I mixed up the in/out functions with my Decklink Duo 2 card, which can be configured for 4 channels 1080P in or out independently. The Quad card is input 4 K, 4 channels, still impressive. I pair it with a Decklink 1 channel output card, the Decklink Mini Monitor.

Hi, I've been using blackmagic and other brand capture cards for close to 20 years and I can tell you a bit about why they don't work with Keynote, and pretty confidently say that I don't expect that they ever will. The cam link is what's called a UVC compatible device, UVC meaning USB Video Class. This is a standard adopted for webcams years ago, back when Apple devices all had firewire ports and had really leaned into native support for IEEE 1394 video capture, simply called DV or FireWire DV. Firewire was a fantastic format for the time. Apple was slow to adopt UVC, in favor of FireWire for a time, but eventually added support. UVC devices like webcams and various capture interfaces (like the cam link 4K) are handled by the OS as video devices without an additional driver, that's why they're available in any app that supports video. Zoom, Teams, Keynote, QuickTime player (recording feature), browsers, etc. The are great, BUT there are limits to the codecs the class can support, and the best quality allowed over UVC isn't up to what professional workstations need. Enter, decklink cards and other professional cards from MageWell, AJA, etc, all require a specific driver AND app support of that manufacturer's capture devices. There's nothing universal about capture cards or how their drivers present to the OS. These cards are capable of higher quality and a wide variety of formats and codecs. Things like 4:4:4 color, HDR, 8K or recording directly to pro formats like ProRes, AVID DNxHD, etc. They're somewhat niche, even in an age of home streamers, so there isn't much incentive for what we'll call every-day apps like Zoom, Teams and Keynote to support capturing from them as it's a significant development lift to support it and even bigger to continue to update your app for new capture cards and driver updates. When we would build ingest machines or video edit bay workstations, OS or Editor updates would sometimes break capability with capture cards in place, it's a headache, Apple wants no part of that update cycle for Keynote. A couple of options do exist for interfacing with a pro capture input and then presenting it to your OS as a virtual UVC device, but I haven't used any in years. I do believe that OBS may be one of them, and free! You can set up a scene to use the capture device input, then output to a virtual webcam which Keynote would pick up.

fantastic explanation, thank you! You mentioned AJA - I am wondering how is AJA x3 compared to Blackmagic Decklink Duo 2? Is there a chance for better compatibility?

Hi Neil, cool video. I have pretty much the same Setup. After speaking with OWC, Blackmagics and Apple support. I'm inclined to believe that the issue with the Decklink not working with various applications such as quicktime, FaceTime and in your case Keynote is due to the newer Mac OS no longer detecting it. Some third party programs like ecamm with see the Decklink, however you can check your System Information - Hardware - Camera. There you'll noice that no Decklink will be listed. I too have been struggling with the Decklink, my work around is to output ecamm to a second monitor and split the signal back into a CamLink. It's not a great solution, it does work.

Hey thanks for the info. Will take a closer look at the Apple-specific applications.

The reason why it doesn’t work with keynote or QuickTime, is because Apple refuses to update the software to use the Decklink.

THE Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro HDMI Video Production Studio with Livestreaming has a control board , this Black Magic Decklink Quad HDMI for Streaming doesn't have control board ..so whats the difference in these 2 ?
@NeilFarrimond
@NeilFarrimond 7 ай бұрын
Hi. The ATEM maxes out at 1080P. The Decklink is 4K. They are different devices but if you use the ATEM with Ecamm or OBS, the software will only see one camera source. So you will have to switch cameras via the ATEM control. The Decklink is seen as 4 separate HDMI inputs to Ecamm giving you more flexibility and control. It depends on your use case and workflow.

@creativegreatsvisuals you use the camera switcher within the Software (Ecamm or OBS). Treat the Decklink as a quad HDMI capture card. Nothing else.

I bought the UltraStudio Monitor 3G (Blackmagic) so I can take my Ecamm program out using Decklink output and to send it to the YoloLiv but what happened that the output is small window from the Ecamm output , and I tried to crop it in YoloLiv so it will be fill screen in Yololiv but the QUALITY became low coz I cropped by the way im streaming 9:16 from Ecamm

Thanks for sharing your setup! I'm really interested in copying it... but I'm confused about what you said at 10:20. What switcher are you using to record your cameras at 4K?

@@NeilFarrimondthanks Neil, yes I’m familiar with Ecamm Live. I thought you said Ecamm’s iso videos are limited to 1080p and not 4k, so you use a dedicated switcher. Maybe I am misunderstanding it. Thanks for getting back to me.
@NeilFarrimond
@NeilFarrimond 10 ай бұрын
@dave-swift hi. Yes ISO recording for individual camera is limited to 1080P but your main production (if you include scene switching between cameras etc) will be at full 4K. Depends on what you want to do post production. If you switch all your cameras within Ecamm the production final recording will be at 4K. Only isolated cameras are recorded at 1080. Hope that makes sense.
@dave-swift
@dave-swift 10 ай бұрын
@@NeilFarrimondyes, that makes sense! Thank you for clarifying. I’m looking for a way to record two cameras and a screen all in 4K and cut after, it doesn’t seem like this solution exists!
@NeilFarrimond
@NeilFarrimond 10 ай бұрын
@@dave-swift Best option would be to use Ecamm or Quicktime to do the screen recording, record on the camera''s locally at 4K then sync and edit in post on FCP. But if you are simply screen sharing with one Camera and then switching scene to another Camera Ecamm will do this for you and record your overall production in 4K. Depends on your workflow.
