A drop of mineral oil inside the female half of the snap will do wonders when they're new with no harm done to the snap. Looks like Council tool has really upped their gaame! That's great to see!

IMO the 24" handles are probably the measurement of the handles before they are custom fitted to the head and wooden wedge inserted. After, whatever is sticking over the top, which is the the excess, would be trimmed off and then the metal wedge inserted .

It would be nice if the company gave 3/16 exra in the handle and they would be spot on or close come tape time

24 inches is the handle length before hanging.

I wonder when people will realize the handles are pre-cut to the marketed length, and when the axe head is fitted you lose about an inch or so

Its bc the handle starts out 24 in but after hung you can loose up to 2 inch or more in some drastic cases. If you read their info it says hung on a 24 in handle. Fantom bevel is the name you asked about.

That is nice axe. A reviewer, Ben Scott, stated that he felt Council Tool made a better working axe for the money than Gransfors Bruks. The Council Tool Sport Utility Boys axe looks interesting as well.

@LuisGonzalez-gl4wc4 жыл бұрын
Rice Creek bushcraft Yes. I really like the looks of the Council Tool Woodcraft axe. From the factory, it is supposed to have a 25 degree flat grind. From Dave Canterbury’s store, they sell this model and they even have an option to thin the edge down even more. Imagine how that would perform with a 20 degree edge.
@shane41764 жыл бұрын
@@LuisGonzalez-gl4wc yeah at 20 that thing would be scary sharp. I mean it came shaving sharp as it was.
@hyberboreanventures83834 жыл бұрын
I agree. These models and their Velvicut axes use a significantly better steel than Gransfors (5160 vs the European equivalent of 1060), and the thinner hafts IMO make for a better axe. Only complain I have is the 19" should have a 1.5 or 1.25 pound head, rather than the 2 pound. Due to the head weight, I went with the 24"
@LuisGonzalez-gl4wc4 жыл бұрын
Hel Threyr I also went with a 24” handle on this version. I also like the Council Tool Utility Jersey pattern with the 31” handle.

Thanks for the thorough review. Much appreciated. I had a couple Gransfors' then I ordered this woodcraft axe after saw your review. I haven't tried it yet but from the look I agree with everything you have mentioned here; e.g. quality straight grain handle, hair shaving sharp, extremely well packed shipping, feels good in the hand,...etc. My only complain is the quality control. My woodcraft axe blade is not symmetrical! One side was sharpened at higher angle than the other. The caved-in parts on the two sides are also not symmetrical.
@shane41763 жыл бұрын
Bummer about the grind on your. Although it wouldn't bother me too much. It should still perform just the same. You have one like mine?
@3chim7noi4lenden3 жыл бұрын
@@shane4176 You are correct. It shouldn't affect the performance. However, I expect a better quality control from their top line. I got the 19" handle version.

Gransfors is that brand name that everyone says is the best but depending on your preferences and what you need for your region some of the other brands can be a lot better personally my favorite high end axe is a Helko Werk pack axe but eventually I am going to buy a woodcraft pack axe as well to see how that is but out of the axes I have my favorite has been the helko it’s a flaired Rheinland pattern so it’s got a really good bit and lots of angles for carving i like it much more than the gransfors I find the gransfors has a ligit head and I want more width in the bit
