Joey - What seals the deal for me in favor of the Council Tools is the hardened poll. That feature alone really puts the Council Tools Pack Axe in a class by itself.

Those are some nice lookin axes my friend👍 If I had to pick it would probably be the husky just because of the handle length and practicality for light forestry work and limbing. Those Swedish patterns slice the wood really well. Council tool would no doubt make the better camp tool. A little stouter head makes it a better splitter and with a shorter length handle it makes a great axe for mounting on a pack. Like you said, they both do really well in different areas. Neither makes a bad axe. Husky vs the CT boys axe would make a more interesting comparison if you’re looking for ideas. They both fit the same niche. My money would be on the CT. Nice vid!

I love ❤️ them both,having an axe is the part of my culture, I own Forest axe and Hatchet 🪓 from Husqwarna.Having a good hatchet for camping ⛺️ is basically essential. I love nature and just simple tools, but of good and decent quality. You just need a knife some string and you can make bow and arrow 🏹 to take down rabbit 🐇 or a bird 🐦,just practice and be patient…

Good job Joey! Cheers for making this one, was cool to see the CT do some work. Pretty impressive wood processor for an out of the box bushcraft axe. Its pricier and I wouldn't want to go any shorter on the handle, but it seems like it lives up to its name. Sweet!👍👍

Awesome, I love my camp axe by council tools, 2lbs head, mostly got it for camping an it fits on my pack,great splitter an chopper as well,some say handle is too short,but with in reasonable tall stump to split wood or in a knelt position, makes really nice clean cuts

I think the Council tool did very well for having a 3 inch shorter handle......

I believe that they were targeting the small forest and the Scandinavian and just put one in the middle.I unfortunately don't have the council tools woodcraft so I've no dog in the fight

For what it’s worth your, notches were cleaner the second day with the CT. Probably due to the short handle. My test is take two axes out to chop with and see which one I end up using the most. That’ll tell you which one cuts best in what would for what tasks.

This was a great video. I'm impressed with both although the CT fits my needs better and I already have one on order. I'd love to see the husky go against the CT Boys Axe which I think is a better test since they are more similar. I'd also like to see the CT Pack Axe go against the Gransfors Small Forest Axe. For me the choice for the CT Pack Axe is largely do to the hardened bit and poll, the possibility that it sticks less and the superior steel it's made with. The camera can't really pick it up, but sometimes you can make out the axe head whistling through the air. There is no replacing the feeling one gets from the use of fine hand tools.

You picked a heck of a hardwood to test. Cherry can be a bear to split. Both are great axes tho!

Do you know the exact head weight of the husqvarna I believe it's like 1.5pounds on a 26 inch handle.Ive owned mine for approx 4 years and I designated for a truck / emergency axe but I recently found a ton of videos saying that the axe has a bad history of breaking or chipping but mainly snapping where the husqvarna stamp is.I should know better but I should be testing all my bugout emergency equipment

Nice looking axes. The Husqvarna is just not a good splitter, its too thin and light. It has a tendency to cut the wood instead of splitting it. In my experience to make it split it needs to be backed up. Its just a lightweight axe designed for chopping.

Congratulations on a good thorough review. What is the price of each of these axes where you live, here in BC Canada the Husqvarna is much cheaper than the Council Tool Axe. The Council Tool Axe hiked up its price significantly (more than doubled) since it launched and is comparable with axes that have been regarded as top quality based upon years of use in the field. CT have indeed carefully considered the various functions that a 'Bushcraft' axe is required to perform and covers them quite well, I do think the shaft would need to be 2 or 3 inches longer with that weight of head and to safely buck and split logs from the standing position. The head of the CT is reminiscent of old English Axes such as Elwell and Brades, a design that can be seen in some Scandinavian Countries and the Siberian Taiga Axe. The substantial, hardened poll will certainly appeal to the survivalist/ one-tool requirement, though nail driving is an activity that the 'Bushcraft purists' would shun. Finally, the 'phantom' bevels are interesting, but to be honest I haver never seen any hard evidence that they contribute to an axe not sticking, I think the edge grind profile does throw a better chip as you noted when bucking the logs (I have noted that my Toporsib Bobr Axe throws good chips with a similar edge geometry. It's all handle length and head weight. Long handle and heavy head puts more force on impact. Shorter handle and lighter head is more packable. What is the difference between the two? You may be comparing Apples and Oranges there.

When your cameraman was filming you felling the tree, he should stand on the other side where we can see you chop into the tree. It was horrible not being able to see the action.

A silky folding saw would help do some partial work on those logs.

Great video ! I know the CT was meant to be packable, but as I watched I couldn't help but wonder how it would perform with a longer handle, considering it has the heavier head weight between the two. It also seemed as though the CT was getting a better bite on the wood during bucking, whereas the Husky appeared to glance more often. I think the winner is the CT head on the Husky handle.
