Personally we tend to buy the product we think is the best quality if the cost is not to much. True some times quality may be the same. Hey sorry to intrude but yes you can use water. I just watched Lansky’s video on this puck and they say it is a common question and yes using water is fine. With stones you can use either but what you don’t wanna do is go back and fourth between water and oil. I know some people who have a puck for water and a puck for use with oil for in cold weather so it doesn’t run a risk of freezing and cracking.

I just saw this and hoped to help, I use olive oil for just about everything. I've used olive or another vegetable oil on my stones for years and the only issue I've come across is the stone tends to get loaded up with grit faster, but a quick wipe and a bit of fresh oil fixes that.

I assume you meant “cut” not “cut you” like that. So it just takes steady working the blade. Then proper technique when swinging the blade. I guess it just takes practice to get the feel.
