I believe the new version (Sound ID Reference) has simplified the room correction process, but in any case, you've shown this is a very worthwhile process. TWO THUMBS UP!

Great video! I don't have Sonarworks, but I do have Waves Nx. I didn't even know about the listen bus! 🤯 I was putting my Nx plugin on the stereo out bus and then having to turn the plugin off every time I exported a mixdown. After watching this video, I enabled the listen bus and put the Nx plugin on the listen bus. It's absolutely perfect now, and I don't ever have to remember to turn off the plugin! Sagenhaft!

Hi Eamonn, it's very simple! Simply click on the wrench icon in the Mixer to access the Console options, as shown in the video. If you have Studio One 5 Professional, you will see a tick box down there that says "enable Listen Bus". Now all you need to do is make sure that it is assigned to the same Output as your Main Out, and insert the Sonarworks plugin. -GBY

Man, great to have this. I used to have to do a lot of tricks to achieve a similar thing in logic, and very inconvenient. It would be nice though to be tied to the output of the main out. I for example switch between monitors and headphones, and always need to switch in both outs separately. I cannot think of a reason when you would want both heard at the same time. Also this feature is really missing from the Project page! Would be great to have it there too, it is as, if not more important to have calibrated speakers during mastering (also worse if the correction ends up in the final render by accident).

Hi Gregor- Thank you for the fantastic content! A quick question- I noticed that you placed the Reference ID plugin on the 'post' section of the inserts in the Listen bus. Does it matter if it's pre or post? Also, should my master bus plugins (limiters, etc) now be placed on the Listen bus after the room correction plugin? Thanks again.
@chaddonal4331
@chaddonal4331 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not Greggor, but... He drops it into the POST slot. This makes sense so that it would process sound AFTER the bus, meaning that it won't be applied to your mixdown -- only to your monitoring! So, yes it would seem to matter a great deal! Master Bus plugins should remain on the Master Bus (i.e. MAIN) if you want them to process your audio. If you want an additional limiter (for hypothetical consideration) simply to not blow your monitors, you could add one to the Listen Bus AFTER the Room Correction.

Hi Babul, that is strange - I can’t reproduce that issue here. In any case, you can just disable this notification in Reference 4’s settings now. The Listen Bus will never be used for the actual Mixdown, so you’re fine and won’t need that warning message to pop up anymore. -GBY

Ah ok. So I guess Sonarworks does not realize it’s on the listen bus in SO5 and knows a mix down is happening, so it gives the warning. But SO5 does not use any plugin on the listen bus in mix down. Is that right? I haven’t fully moved over to SO5 yet, so I can’t turn off the warning because then my projects in SO4 will suffer because I ALWAYS forget 🤦🏽‍♂️😬🤣

I want to have the Sonorworks plugin on my main (for my genelecs) and the Slate VSX on the listening bus going to my headphones. Of course! Because you are still monitoring your MIX! It's just that you are additionally mixing with consideration for your room anamalies. You wouldn't want your Listen Bus to not hear your master effects, right? You wouldn't be able to tell what adjustments they are making.

Hey Gregor, long time S1 convert and follower. Thanks for another great vid! I cannot seem to figure out how to do what I need, without connecting an external HP amp. Not sure if its possible, and whether its a hardware routing issue, or software routing config issue in S1. Im not clear on how Cue mixes and the Listen Bus work together. In my case with a Quantum 2626. I want my Mix Bus to be clean, routed out nowhere, only for processing mixdowns, bounces, export to MP3, etc. Then on my Listen Bus I have room correction software (ik ARC3), routed to Main Outs on the 2626, going to my studio monitors. The issue is that I want cue mixes to be based on the Mix Bus (no room correction), but I cant seem to have a corrected mix going to my monitors, with a clean mix going to my cue mixes. Thoughts? Thanks and keep up the great work w Joe. Cheers, Bob in NJ,USA

Hey Gregor, I have a question about Sonarworks: how do you match the input and output level in Sonarworks to avoid any type of sound coloration? I found that Sonarworks has always different input and output level and that can badly influence all mixing&mastering decisions? ..and Sonarworks supposed to give us FLAT 1:1 sound without any colorations ...and no I'm not talking about obvious solution like SAFE HEADROOM option enabled Thanks in advance
@presonus
@presonus 3 жыл бұрын
Sonarworks has to lower the input level to avoid clipping in frequency ranges that need to be boosted in order to achieve linearity. There is no coloration whatsoever, it's just the level that is being adjusted. As long as you bypass Sonarworks inside of the plugin, not by turning it off through Studio One, this won't affect your Mastering decisions in any way. -GBY

Yeah - that's all very well - BUT - I've just had to remove Sonarworks from my system 'cos it would not allow me to sort out signal routing with my new Studiolive desk. Presonus support advised this and suggested I talk to Sonarworks to sort it. Which I will but in my case it was not as simple as the video suggests. It always worked fine with Cubase - but that's not enough of a reason to go back to Cubase.

Thanks for the video, but how can we apply this with multiple sonarworks calibrated monitor sets. For example I have Adams S3H, Aphions One 15's and avantone. Now I use multiple outputs in the master section with The Adams and Amphions calibrated and the avantones not. The Adams are connected to the main out and the amphions and avantones to different outputs. I have two busses calles Mix Bus and Master Bus. The mix bus I use for mastering and all channels (busses) are send to this bus. This bus outputs to the Master bus with just plugins for measurement, no processing. The masterbus is outputting to the main output (Adams) and have 2 sends to send the same signal to the amphions and avantones. Finally I have the Sonarworks plugins on the outputs of the Adams and Amphions with there own profile. Everything comes out on the rednet network and with mute buttons I can switch between the monitors with their calibration activated and at the same listening level. I don't think the Listen bus can handle this, correct ? Would be great to have more listen busses for these cases, I think more people use some sort of calibration software and use multiple monitors.

Make your preset swaps within Sonarworks. I use 3 setups in Samplitude: My mains without sub, Mains with Sub, and Headphones. I can toggle between them or switch them at any point. Should be the same in S1, because you're making the changes within Sonarworks.
