USING THE PAVO PICO FOR COMMERCIAL WORK?! | How practical is this drone for the FPV professional?...

It's no mystery that I was initially impressed by ‪@BETAFPVHobby‬'s Pavo Pico tinywhoop drone -- especially after pairing it with the ‪@DJI‬ O3 Air Unit! That said, I had some reservations about the practicality of the Pavo Pico FPV drone when it came to battery life and wind resistance.
Despite my reservations, I had a client reach out to me that needed an indoor drone flight around some of their equipment and it gave me an excuse to put the Pavo Pico to work and test its true abilities in a higher-stress environment and situation.
Is the Pavo Pico all it's cracked up to be or is it really just a toy with a fancy camera? Let's find out, Let's Talk Drones!

I think if people present themselves in a professional way, the tools they use may be of interest to the client, but dont make a big difference one way or the other as long as you have the skills to pay the bills and tasty, high quality deliverables. Currently focused on building a LiDAR oriented system, but something like this is next on the list.

I couldn't agree more. It comes down to the report you build with your client -- 5 minutes, 5 months, 5 years, it doesn't matter how long you have been fostering that relationship, if you present yourself in a professional and pleasant-to-work-with manner you're going to have success. Your equipment DOES need to meet a level of professional standards when it comes to data collection and output, but the idea that somebody who has an Inspire 3 is going to be preferred to get all of the work from businesses and organizations in a given market is just untrue if that person is also hard to work with or has an unprofessional demeanor. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@@TheDroneGeek Wait a second, so youre telling me the Sales Rep at DJI that told me that rolling up with an Agra T40 strapped to the roof of my truck would impress clients and get me more jobs might have been fibbing? Lol. Actually, the more I think about it my clients would totally love it! Totally agree on all your points.

Just picked one up, but i'm a beginner to FPV and cant get it to stay level when hovering. Any tips on getting it calibrated for indoor use?

What do you mean by getting it to stay level? Typically leveling is on you via pitch and roll adjustments, but curious if you mean there’s something else that is uncharacteristically wrong with it.

@@TheDroneGeek if I’m flying in level mode, I should be able to hover without feeling a drag in any direction right? I’m feeling a slight drag to the left, even after calibrating the accelerometer. Btw in your video did you shoot in acro or level? Great shot by the way

@@TheDroneGeek I meant angle mode

@techwildlife1 if you are in angle mode then it will keep the drone level as far as tilt appearing in the camera feed goes, but it will not hold position or keep it from drifting. Serious drifting can sometimes be helped by one of the following: - An accelerometer trim within BetaFlight - A gyroscope calibration within BetaFlight Keep in-mind too that the Pavo Pico is ultra-lightweight, so even a mild breeze is going to push it around a bit. Not just breezes, but changes in airflow (i.e. a fan, central air, an open door or window, even its own propwash in tight quarters, etc.). I’d check out the accelerometer and gyroscope first. If you have trouble, check out Joshua Bardwell’s channel. That’s how I’m learning the nuances of flying and building FPVs and the dude is a life saver for real. I’m sure he has answers for you somewhere that would do a better job than I ever could.

How much did you charge to film this?

I don’t disclose exact amounts negotiated and agreed upon with clients - that’s between me and them. However, my hourly rate changes depending upon factors of the shoot, there is no one-size fits all in my opinion. To more precisely answer your question though, my average range is from $175/hr. to $300/hr. again taking into account how risky or complex a flight might be for my equipment and the personnel and equipment/facilities in the area which I am operating.

Maybe, but you aren’t fitting even a naked GoPro on the Pavo Pico. Maybe the Pavo25, but the Pico would not lift even that reduced weight version of a GoPro. Not a chance.

@@TheDroneGeek Never said it would. Thats why I do not own a Pico lol. 2.5" is small enough for almost every gap/shot I would need for anything professional. Don't get me wrong, these small o3 quads are super cool and I plan on getting one soon just to rip around for fun.
