Don't like Gopro. Theirs fell out of the sky. Then they keep releasing the same camera over, and over, and over again. They also don't seem to be interested in making a camera that isn't an action camera. I want a camera to use for long takes that's the size of a GoPro, but that isn't waterproof, doesn't have overheating issues, can film 1080 (2.7K or 4K as well) 10 bit 30p, and has a 1inch sensor with a fixed 20 or 24mm lens. GoPro could have made that camera five years ago, but nope, we have the 9/10/11/12 - which are all the same camera. If they don't come out with a 1" sensor camera this year, they're pretty much done. IMO. DJI could make my camera, and they almost did with the Pocket 3, but I don't want the gimbal part. If they put that camera in a box and let me plug a USBC battery in it, and made sure it didn't overheat after two hours, I'd be so happy! Back to drones: I don't want Tesla to get into the camera business. Nope. Stick to making bad cars. Apple could be an option, the new cameras in the iPhones are pretty interesting. Wouldn't mind seeing what they had to offer, but of course it would need to be a larger format sensor than the iPhone sensors. Sony could be the winner, obviously they have cameras already figured out. A flying FX3 or FX30 would be pretty sweet. Seeing as I'm sitting here holding out for an Air 3S with a 1" sensor, which looks to be eminent, or a new Mavic 4 (maybe it happens within the ban limit), I wouldn't mind paying $2000-5000 for a Sony drone, so long as it works the same as DJI. I wonder how it will work out. Will DJI be able to simply license their patents to Congressional muppet friendly companies? The simple truth is that the market meddling that is going on by US drone companies is just dumb and sad really. Should have put their efforts into making products people want to buy, instead of trying to oust the ones that are actually good by shifty means.

Man, thank you for the thoughtful and thorough comment! I don't disagree with your position on GoPro...they've been leaving a LOT on the table in the last few years and it sucks because there is so much potential there from a true American brand (albeit, they manufacture the tech in China). However, I think that if they decided to light a fire under their collective rear-end that they COULD be poised to take another crack at drones -- this time maybe getting it right and making a drone that can stand up to the expectations of the market. Tesla is a long shot and I don't see them dropping what they're doing to manufacture consumer drones anytime soon...but an interesting thought -- especially since I do think they will eventually start manufacturing enterprise drones at some point down the line. Apple...I'm holding out hope on this. They could be the savior of the industry if they open their horizons to making better small format cameras with larger sensors (~ 1"). At the end of the day though...Sony (and other camera companies like Canon, Blackmagic, etc.) are the ones in the best position to make a run at the consumer/prosumer drone market. I could see Sony leading the charge since they already have experience with the Airpeak S1, but wouldn't be surprised if Canon and others maybe follow their lead. Time will tell. While I'm mad as hell that DJI is getting treated the way they are right now...I'm trying to find silver-linings wherever I can and believing in these companies to do the right thing and make something cool for those of us that need it most is my current silver-lining hyper-fixation! xD

@@TheDroneGeek I haven’t been paying attention enough, is a DJI ban a done deal? Or is there room for hope that it’s not going to be a thing? I already got burned a bit. I have a Mini 2, I got my part 107, then RID came along. No RID for mini 2. Not sure about a dongle to tape to it, don’t really want to change flight characteristics. Been grounded since I guess. Haven’t actually gotten any drone jobs to justify buying a new drone with RID, don’t like the Air 3, don’t want to buy the Mavic 3 if a 4 is imminent, but maybe if that Air 3S has a 1” sensor I’ll go for that. Might even line up with a possible gig in August!

Check your motor direction in Betaflight. Toggle on and off (and test with each setting respectively) the "motor order reversed" toggle. If that does not solve the issue, restore it back to the position it is in during my video tutorial and try turning "low power mode" on in your goggles. I recently had an issue where my Pavo Pico was being told it was rolling to the right when I was giving no stick input, which made takeoff impossible because it would just flip over when I gave it any throttle. That said, if it still doesn't work, try going to this website and reflashing the firmware via the CLI to factory defaults. Then try the process over again: support.betafpv.com/hc/article_attachments/21131998083865

I bought a Jumper T Lite Elrs 2.4 to fly my geprc domain 3.6. Im seriously thinking i should have gone with the dji controller. Im thinking i should be able to do this? In other words just remove the elrs receiver and use the 03 air unit.
@TheDroneGeek
@TheDroneGeek 9 сағат бұрын
In theory you should be able to accomplish this IF the FC has the available solder pads or USB ports (RX, TX, G, 9V). However, I would actually advise against the DJI FPV Controller setup...while it is easier to configure, setup, and deploy, it's much less efficient when it comes to maintaining a reliable connection and avoiding a failsafe in flight. I have had my DJI controller failsafe on me twice in circumstances where something like ELRS or Crossfire would not have even blinked. I only recommend the DJI FPV Controller setup to folks that are either brand new to FPV or started with DJI FPV products and either don't have the funds or savvy to jump into the more technical side of configuring FPV peripherals to work with their drones. If you have the know-how and savvy (and patience lol), stick with your ELRS configuration and make that work or keep using it if it already works. If you need it in the air fast and don't have the time or know-how to properly setup an ELRS module with RX, then yeah, DJI might be the answer to your problems. Good luck either way!

The ban legislation (to my knowledge, I have not checked the news today because I’ve been out on a job all day) still has a few steps it has to get through before it would become law. Until it is law, DJI can continue to sell drones in the United States. Additionally, while my audience is MOSTLY American…about 20% of it is from other countries. Gotta keep the folks who can still buy them informed too.

I can see your perspective. And let’s be real, I’ve been wrong before so I might end up with egg on my face after all this…but it won’t make any sense to release a Mavic 4 when the Mavic 3 Pro came out just a year ago now and is uber capable and relatively “near-future-proof.” There isn’t a lot of room for improvement in this short of a timeframe for the Mavic series. The Air 3 though…yeah there is a ton of room.

That's a tough one and ultimately comes down to what YOU want...can't ignore the nearly $200 worth of savings on the second-hand drone (more if you get a fly more combo and/or DJI RC 2), but...it IS a second-hand drone, which means you could be getting a drone that has been underwater or smashed to bits and "repaired." You never really know when you buy second-hand...not suggesting you're absolutely going to regret it, but it's a mixed bag...I've heard great stories about snagging a deal in the after-market market and I've also heard absolute nightmares. If I were you? I'd wait if I have the cash to buy an Air 3S brand new. Even if you don't, you have a little less than a month to scrape together ~$500 to make up the difference for a new Air 3S. Good luck either way!

Thank you for the video; it was very informative. I believe you are right that this is an Air 3S with a 1-inch CMOS main camera and a 0.78-inch CMOS zoom, which is nice but not perfect because when editing videos with it, you have two different sizes. The Mavic Pro 3 had this problem with all three different sizes on the CMOS, making video editing harder. I also think this is not the last release from DJI; I think the Mini 5 Pro is coming next. I believe it's going to have the same main camera from the Air 3S, a 1-inch CMOS, similar to what they did with the Mini 3/4 Pro, which copied the same main camera of the Air 3, making it a 0.78-inch CMOS for the Mini 3/4 Pro. So, the Mini 5 Pro is going to be the first mini with a full 1-inch CMOS, in my honest opinion, probably just in time for the holidays. Then we will see the Mavic Pro 4 next year. Just my educated guess. Thank you for the video again.

I have been trying to work on my youtube lately and putting lots of work in to try and get people to my channel. And now youtube have came along and are treating me like free cash grab. And while it was frustrating, I now see it this way...it's Google's platform...so if they want to run ads on everyone's video they can and that's up to them. We can either choose to have a channel or not. If not, then Google loses the opportunity for expanded ad revenue (because they take a cut of the ad money no matter if the channel is monetized or not). If we do, we have the opportunity to take a cut of their money from the ad spends. It will come around. Keep at it. Keep creating. You will overcome this very minor obstacle in the grand scheme!

I'm not rich, but I know if I buy one of these, there is risk. I lose it, that's it! Gone. From the initial decision to purchase it, I become okay with it. Of course I'll do what I can to recover it, but I won't become a whining "Karen" and bitch about it if they don't follow through at DJI. I will only act pleasantly surprised. I won't fly my new one any distance until I've had lots of other fun with it, here in the house, and closely flying outside. I play it safe. I am really happy with how it takes cool videos going around a local object, and running along sand piles at the beach, around shoreline areas, directly overhead,...,...,..

There IS risk, you're right...but a failure from inside the drone is not your fault and you should not be held solely liable for it -- especially when it is a new product. If I had had this for 4 years and it failed, I'd still be mad, but I wouldn't go to DJI expecting them to do anything about it. It would also be well outside of warranty at that point, so no reason to believe they would do anything about it. If you buy products like this, understand that there is a warranty that goes along with the product as well as an extended warranty you can purchase from DJI...if anything goes wrong that is not your fault, you SHOULD be taken care of and DJI wants to take care of you -- not just because it's good for their reputation as a company, but because they use reports like this to determine if there are recurring flaws with the drone and can address those issues if they prove to be persistent. Absolutely no reason in 2024 that you, as a consumer, should take ANYTHING on the chin when it comes to the products you purchase.

@TheDroneGeek On that I totally agree. I bought a mini 3 about a year ago and it wouldn't go past powering up, idling, and then not responding, then shutting off. I spent a whole day on that and couldn't make it work. Took it back to Microcenter. I bought a mini 4 two weeks ago. Made it work right out of the box with no glitches. No headaches or struggles. I like having a physical store nearby to take back the bad, because the old formula has always been: If anything works well longer than a week, it keeps working for years after. If it breaks a few weeks or months later, rarely happens, I figure it's my loss. Throw it in the "parts" pile.....lol

Apple is definitely out of the picture. All their products are made in China. If the government was really worried about the security of this country they would be banning Apple products. They are made in China, have built in cameras and microphones and you are a fool if you don’t think China has access to all the information on your phone, pad and computer, just as our government has the same access. Although I do find it interesting for Elon to get involved with the production of drones
@TheDroneGeek
@TheDroneGeek 5 күн бұрын
Normally I'd agree with you and ultimately I think if Apple does stay out of the drone industry it will be because of the negative stigma that is associated with the words "China" and "drone." However, the real hitching point here for our decision makers in the government revolves around data security. Apple has their hardware largely manufactured and assembled in China, yes...but the data they collect is housed in the United States. That's how they've been able to skirt around the fact that their products are from Chinese factories. DJI on the other hand manufactured their drones in China and housed the data collected in China...meaning the US has no say in what is done with it. I don't agree with that notion and think that the "data security" argument is LARGELY a farce when you consider just how easily accessible the data our drones may collect is via different avenues. But I'd be remiss if I did not point out this very key difference between DJI and Apple in the eyes of the government, whether it is valid or not is a completely different conversation.
@RayRay-zc2ed
@RayRay-zc2ed 5 күн бұрын
@@TheDroneGeek well the issue with what you are stating is that for dji to sell their drones in the USA they have to be approved and licensed by the U.S. federal government. So the end result is if what you say is true then the U.S. federal government are the ones that gave them permission to gather and store all the data collected by dji. So the fault of the situation lies on the federal government, unless of course it was a situation that was intentionally planned in the beginning. So either the government screwed up or intentionally planned it. Either way the simple solution is for the government to fix what they created and have dji change their process so the data is stored in the U.S. and only the U.S. government will be able to access the data as they do with all Apple products. If that is not done then it adds weight to the possibility that this is just a ploy for the American technology companies to remove chinas technology company out of the U.S. market for the U.S. companies gain. I would think that dji that makes billions from the U.S. market would strongly consider changing their data collection policy so they can continue to make billons.

Apples and oranges though. The quads you are alluding to are built and purposed differently than what I'd classify as a photography drone. That's not to say folks cannot build their own "photography drones" by essentially utilizing iNAV and a GPS onboard the drone to program it to hold position. The fact is though that a majority of people who fly consumer/prosumer drones do not have the background, savvy, time, or ability to sit down and learn how to do this properly...so having an out-of-the-box solution to succeed the platforms manufactured by DJI would save a lot of people from having to drop out of the industry/hobby. Oh it will certainly be a factor that plays into companies making that decision. Looking at the empirical data regarding consumer/prosumer drone use and the risks it poses...it is impressively low for these companies from a total liability standpoint. The biggest factor is going to be what kind of after sales service they put into place. If they can figure out how to provide warranty protection on the drones that allows them to either make money or break even, then it's a relative non-issue...unfortunately I don't think a lot of companies in a position to take up this mantle will see it that way. I have hope though that at least a few will and will try to build out a consumer/prosumer line of drones.

I used my controller with the simulator, you don’t turn it on it runs off the power of the computer.

That makes sense since the battery is internal and the controller charges via USB-C! Good to know that it works with the simulator too!

Analog seems very rough to get used to from a visual perspective but besides that, it looks really fun! Great video guys!👏🏾🤙🏾

the cetus has the worst analog cam and you cant connect the cetus to betaflight so no tuning possible i wouldnt recommand that thing mobula7 or tinyhawk 3 are way better i know of 2 people that had that set and both their controllers had broken gimbals within 4 weeks mobula 7 + radiomaster pocket + skyzone cobra lite or sd and you got a way better starter kit maybe a vifly whoopstor for charging and some gnb 1s 660mAh lipos with it

@@bluefpv3263 I was in BetaFlight with it over the past 3 days. Tuning rates and everything. Able to reprogram your modes sliders for the controller too. After looking at their website, it looks like they now have two configurations for the Cetus's flight controller -- the Cetus FC and the BetaFlight FC. I'm thinking the BetaFlight FC is a new option for it and that I likely have this version because, again, I'm able to reconfigure everything about this Cetus X via BetaFlight.

I agree 2000% American what happened to that America that actually made the best of the best product. If you was paying a lot of money for those American products in the past they were worth the price. Because it could not be beat anywhere else. I just find it to be very sad that there's a lot of money for all of these companies to make money but the American companies are just choosing to rake in the money instead of having a feedback conversation with the person who you're selling the drones too. Stop all this lobbying. Running down to Congress to show just how weak companies are in America.
