Yes!!! It's important to recognize that life comes with ups and downs, and often times, there are more downs than ups. Only focusing on the positive is unhealthy. You NEED to process the bad things too. One of the things I love about Rachel's videos is that she's always so transparent about literally everything

That's mainly because it's youtube tbh. Sounds like you're needing the kinda gritty stuff that people will post on private group chats but will never post publicly for hundreds of thousands of people. Give it a couple of years more into healthcare and you will see it with your friends if not experience it yourself. The panic attacks, things going wrong, and people hating life, is very real.

OMG. Rachel, i was rewatching some of ur old vids when i stumbled across this gold. my daughter currently has the same. exact. problem. she's had it for over a year now. she was prescribed the same stuff u were, and she got so frustrated with the erythromycin ointment (it blurred her vision and didn't allow her to work) that she stopped putting it. it's gotten a bit better over time, but it's still a problem. we've been hesitating getting surgery because she's quite young and with its positioning, the ophthalmologist feared that the surgery might cut the tear duct in the process of taking it out (causing a whole bunch of other problems). but seeing this vid, i will rethink that decision and maybe get surgery for her. No matter what ppl say, Rachel, i can confidently tell u that u r helping and improving people's lives. thank u so much for simply existing :)

Rachel, sending you a huge virtual hug. I 100% understand the distress of having something painful and awful happen to your body, let alone your face. When I was half-way through my first year of medical school, I was diagnosed with melanoma on my face. Had to undergo surgery that went on to heal and leave a huge scar. It sucks because you really can't hide it from the rest of the world, and after a week or two it really took a hit on my confidence. Thinking of you, and I hope your eyelid heals quickly from here on!

If people can’t handle this, that’s on them not you! Be patient with yourself and give yourself grace. Allow yourself time to work through what you gotta work through💞. We all face these kinds of moments ourselves in our lives.. what kind of human would we be if we couldn’t understand and empathise with you? I feel for you with the abscess. And you’re right it’s not vain. I get horrible herpes virus, like a cold sore on steroids, and I feel like an absolute monster for about 2 weeks while it’s blistering and angry. It leaves a scar every time that takes about 6 months to fade. If it was any place but my face it wouldn’t be so traumatic but it’s the first thing people see. Glad you’re recovering.

Omg I've been there with the excruciating dental pain; it's probably the worst pain I've ever felt. For me my wisdom tooth broke and got infected. The infection reached the main nerve on the quadrant so I basically had a toothache in a whole quarter of my mouth. I could actually feel the pain start at the wisdom tooth and travel along the nerve, branching off into each tooth it passed on the way. And by the time it was reaching the last one, it was already starting again. Like Xmas lights on that chasing pattern but pain instead.

Hi! Using heat on the chalazion is an effective treatment, however the way you were doing it with the cloth is a little less effective. In optometry school they teach us that you need constant heat for atleast 10-15 minutes to effectively help with this. The way you can achieve this is by using something like a boiled egg or cooked potato or anything that can keep its heat for atleast 10 minutes. This usually works a little better than a cloth, because you need to constantly get it hot again. They are also some awesome eyemasks out there that you can cook and break a little thing that is in there, and then you get a nice hot eye mask to relax with. If you get anything like this in the future, maybe this will help :) Goodluck with all the studying!

Chalazion vs hordeolum, important to make a distinction between the two. Hordeolum-active infection in an eyelid gland. Chalazion-lump of scar tissue left over following resolution of a hordeolum. Treat a hordeolum with oral antibiotics is best (or just warm compresses if a patient declines the antibiotics). Unfortunately, antibiotic drops aren't able to penetrate into the gland where the infection is located and topical ones are much the same. For a chalazion, if a patient wants to get rid of it I refer to ophthalmology for excision. Sincerely, Your friendly neighborhood optometrist

Don't worry about mainly talking about your eye as it was clear from the vlog it was an issue and was your main thoughts because of the pain. I mentioned in a comment on a previous video about how I had flat foot reconstructive surgery now on both feet (right foot last year and left foot this year). For the past two years now because of the surgery and lengthy recovery (being off my foot for 2 months, starting PT, post op appointments etc.) I feel the same way about my experience with everything because I felt like all I talked about was my feet. It's understandable because we learn from our experiences and it's just amazing what I've learned about myself. I was able to apply my experience with writing a magazine article because my flatfoot case was specifically unique because of my disability but also to help others with foot pain to get it taken care of sooner rather than later (it felt therapeutic sharing my experience that way). So don't ever feel bad if your eye is what you mainly talk about because it's how you learn and grow from that experience.

Rachel, oh my goodness, please stop saying sorry about complaining. I would not be able to function if I could not see out of my eye! If people are unfollowing you because you cry, that is their loss. I think your personality and channel are such a breath of fresh air. Keep kicking butt.

Eye pain is so not fun! I'm partially blind (I basically have half an eyeball). So the vision limited is must be challenging on your end. I love the eye puns! If I am in pain, I'd tye the towel around my head/eye like a headband. Even using voiceover helps, sunglasses (like you're doing so far). You're preserving through this challenge, you got this. You managed to overcome so many hurdles!

So sorry about your eye. ☹️. This too shall pass. What doesn't kill us make us stronger. Ok, that's all the positive quotes I can think of right now. Take care of yourself, Rach 💕

Hey Rachel ! I have been watching your videos for a week now ; I am a med student from France and found your channel when I was feeling very bad and unmotivated to study for my exams. Although I don't understand much about the US medical school system (I tried to compare it to our system here but it is so different haha), I still enjoy watching you learn the same things I do, but overseas. I'm sorry about your eye, and I totally understand your feeling (when you can't study properly and don't feel like yourself). I understand you have some kind of big exam coming up ? Mine are in a week ! Wishing you all the best, I believe in you, you can do it and you are the best !

I had a gnarly stye in my left eye last week and it was the worst pain I felt in a long time. It popped in my sleep and when I woke up, I couldn't even open my eye bc of all the gunk that came out and dried. I'm glad you got everything figured out with it!
