People are Exaggerating Soviet and American strength. I’d say they’re pretty equal. 1) The Soviets had more Manpower than the USA (approximately 95M fit for service, but the factories would die) 2) The Soviets had 3x the amount of armoured vehicles than the US, making their armed forces much more mobile (65,000) 3) The Soviets had a massive AA and Aircraft force, which made the US build the SR-71 Blackbird. 4) The Soviets had more Equipment, how do you think they would supply their 5 million troops and 65,000 armoured vehicles? 5) The Soviets had a larger amount of Nukes than the US, although they were lacking behind the US in ICBMs, the top 4 most powerful nukes were detonated by the Soviets. USA 1) The USA had much more Naval Power than the Soviets, they could express their naval influence to the Atlantic and Pacific oceans where NATO and Japan resides. 2) The USA had a much more advanced technology, the Soviets were barely ahead in military technology, the US was the most prosperous nation on the planet. 3) The USA had better civilian life than the Soviets, although poverty was low on both sides, it’s pretty clear between a country that spends on military (Sov) and a country that spends on the people (US). 4) They had the best Geography, the US could fend off any attack from the Sea and Land, as their terrain in the west is difficult to traverse and the territory in the esst can be blocked off by naval ships. 5) They also had the best Alliance (technically), Eastern Europe was literally decimated and hard to pick up leaving the USSR as the sole superpower but in the west it was much more economically prosperous and militarily strong. Even with all of this I’d say this is a tie. The Soviets could repell any attack on their land, but it is also impossible to land on US soil directly. The USSR would find trouble defeating the Navy and Landbut the US would find trouble defeating the Army and Airforce. Simple.
