Tabla player is Mohammad Ahmad. I was fortunate to have witnessed that era in the 1940’s. I was 13 years old and have ever since listened to him.

Thank you Mr Patel for the mention of Mohammed Ahmed. I have never seen him before. His playing is so soft and serene on Khansaheb's album SITAR NAWAZ with Raga Shankara and dhun in Gara. I would sincerely welcome any info on the whereabouts of the tabla maestro.

This one is really a masterpiece At this time Vilayat khan was playing in the Tantrakari style and his sitar was also more like Ravi Shankar s kharaj pancham sitar

What a treat! He was that rare artiste who was made for his instrument, and the instrument for him. Khan saheb is sorely missed.

Such emotional maturity at such a young age! Though not sure of the age, since there are ambiguities (maybe 18-20). Oh and you have also remastered the audio and the video? The original footage was blurrry! Thank you.

This was released in 1944. VK was born in 1928. So I am assuming it must be 16-17 by that logic.

i assume this is an old Kanailal and Brothers. When did UVK switch to ghandar Pancham sitars. Are they more recent desing/invention or is it just that in his early day he preferred this design he plays here ?

First when he was learning he learnt kharaj pancham only. Later he made his own sound of sitar. 🙏🏻

These are not songs but compositions based on different ragas (In Indian music ragas are composition frameworks used to create different emotions and feelings in music). One of the Raga used here is Raga Bairavi (this Raga meant to create an uplifting and euphoric feeling)

@@dineshpatel5239 you mean Ustad Ahmed jaan thirakawa Khan Sahab?
@dineshpatel52392 жыл бұрын
No. He is Ustad Mohammad Ahmad. When Vilayat Khan came to Bombay in 1940’s, he used to accompany him. I have heard him often. Later on he accompanied Begum Akhtar for all concerts in Bombay. He is pure Delhi Gharana. You can see and hear his 2 finger Baaj very clearly. I am 100% sure. I grew up with music all my life from all over India through short wave radio. I have a high respect for artists from Bengal. Specially I have liked very much Radhika Mohan Maitra and Buddhadev Das Gupta.
