This is a singles set between me and Govind Nanda! Govind is a pro tennis playing on tour right now, ranked #388 in the world as of this video. Obviously there's a big difference in level here so he was nice enough to mix the points up with some easier playing and some regular playing. I play mostly from the baseline while Govind is probably more of an all court player. Hope you enjoy it! And give Govind a thanks in the comments below for being a great sport and playing this set with me for content!

This is highly illustrative for the Joes vs Pros survey on Tennis Channel in which average tennis players were asked if they could take a game off a pro and the great majority said yes, yes they could, LOL. Winston is a very good 4.5 or even better - he is a legit good amateur/club player who has invested thousands of hours seriously trying to improve his game and is better than 99% of regular "park" players who are way better than occasional players. He can barely hope for a game off of Govind, who, is a brilliant player but TBH, is a rusty, low-level pro.

Once you get to 5.0+ games on pros are realistic. Esp on fast courts. Low level pros outside the top 500 aren't really that much better than d1 players.

@@kalebball5144 it gets to be mostly mental and consistency at a certain point. That said, Govind just looks like he's messing around on a practice court here. If you pull up a tournament match with him he plays much tighter.

I was with you unit the end. If you search this guy, you’ll find him hanging with Ben Shelton who I spent all week watching play at the highest levels. Obviously a big improvement in just 18 months when he was not even top 500 but the point is at that level, I think the difference would be imperceptible to most of us sub 5.0 players. I think govind was flying with one engine in this match.

The fact that you took a game from a professional player is an incredible achievement. In the ground stroke rallies you did really well. The big (obvious) difference is the serve. You couldn't hurt him at all while he was hitting aces all over the place. I think he held back a little on the returns to get into some rallying. All in all a very decent match that you can be proud of.

Thank you for posting this! Probably the best thing I've seen so far to really demonstrate the difference between a really good rec player and even Challenger-level pros, because it's so hard to really tell that watching the pros play on TV (or even in person). The takeaways: 1. The level of fitness is insane. Govind gets to EVERYTHING; I can't even count the number of shots you hit that would either be winners or easy pop-ups if you were playing even the top players at your own level. 2. He takes a ball inside the baseline and the point is pretty much over. 3. Precision. Almost every rally, he'd hit at least one ball that would be "shot of the match" for a rec player. Clear winners on regular balls five feet behind the baseline and constantly painting lines. 4. Dude is 5'10" and was acing you like John Isner. The difference in pace and, again, precision is ridiculous.

The sad story of that video is that most of the commentators really like it without understanding what they just saw. ITF dude played on his 60% abilities maximum by tactics, patterns, and power. Also, in that match yall never find anything mental, which is the cost of 99% of the real match in the ranking tournament. And if everyone from comments just saw how better Govind is technically but absolutely can't get how better he is mentally. A friendship non-ranking match means nothing for both of them and the mental part is not reflected in the game. But it's way way more important in "money time" than all other skills like "big serve" or forehand with volleys. So it's just wasting of time when amateur players try to compare themselves with pros on non-ranking matches like that in their home courts 10 minutes from their house right after they took a shit on their own toilet and parked their car in the same place as a hundred times before. The ranking tournament is a wild story when you get to the court using an airplane and taxi and shuttle bus.. waiting for the match time in the locker room, fighting with your stomach after yesterday's food in a new place, and with jetlag after changing the time zone from +9 to -10. Tennis is not just the seed of your serves or the aiming of your forehand dude.

When I was teaching tennis for a living, I went to the US Open. I was 24, in my tennis prime, 5.5 level teaching pro. I was standing next to the players on the outer courts one thing was evident. I watched them, and remember thinking "Yep, I can hit the ball at that pace." But they were warming up and standing still... not even taking a step. Just banging the ball back and forth effortlessly (and this was 2 non-seeded dudes I never heard of). The accuracy was INSANE. Literally not even moving, just hitting the ball right to each other's racquets at 60-70 mph. People really don't understand how much better pros are than normal people. This guy was prolly holding 80% of his game back, prolly due to him being in recovery from an injury.

Govind has the ability to move you much more and set himself up for a winner. -finishing a point even when you have the edge seems really difficult. Good tennis lesson from the pro. I have played against few national ranked players and they often dictate the points and find weaknesses of your game and all you can do is playing defense and often playing catch up from all the flaws and mistakes that you make throughout match. That is why it is often better to play with someone with your capabilities for improvements in your own game. Any coach can easily see this set programs and solutions to your games so you can get to your next level. It is like a building a fortress.

Wow you have improved so much over the months. I like how you started to kick jump on your back hand to add power. If you improve your 2nd serve, you'll be a force to be reckoned with.
