it's sheer magic. VK was in a class by himself . it's as if the sitar 's notes are a living, breathing phenomenon. incomparable performance by the great Ustaad.

Amazing.... he is one of the few artists who treated Des like a 'bada raag'. Any idea about the year of this recording? From his control and clarity of stokes it appears to be of the 70's or earlier.

In probably no other baaj, Vilayat Sahab seems so influenced by the Maihar Seni ghar. The gat and taankari almost reminds one of PT Nikhil Banerjee.. amazingly gracefull..

As opposed to contemporary players the great Ustads like VK and Rais Khan never repeated the same note when preforming the same raga..pure improvisation like Hindustani classical music is supposed to be..

During 1950s Khan Sahib didn't yet complete all of the modifications on his sitar, as the present Gandhar Pancham Sitar represents.

that is not correct. the modificatons were done in the early 50s, as per comments made by various authors who have written about VK'smusic. The technique of playing ( vilayat khani baaz to say) came into being in the mid fifties.

The usage of meends and several other techniques in this rendition are completely different from that of the Maihar gharana

After participated in international Music Festival Ustad vilayat Khan started to adopt some Western classical patterns modified in Indian classical Ragas that made his style quite different then all prevented style of sitar playing.
