▸ Ustka is a city located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is an attractive place for tourists, because it is located on the Baltic Sea, and the Słupia River also flows through it. The city is located in the Słowiński Coast and is only a dozen or so kilometers from the Słowiński National Park. It should be mentioned that since 1974 Ustka has been a health resort, because its attractive geographic location (on the Baltic Sea and in the vicinity of many pine forests) means that the local air is full of healthy iodine, there are also brine springs.
Ustka was mentioned for the first time in documents from the first half of the 14th century. At that time, the townspeople from nearby Słupsk bought a small settlement, thanks to which they had the opportunity to maintain commercial contacts, among others, with Kołobrzeg, but also with foreign ports. The port developed well until it passed into foreign hands in the 17th century. Apart from the devastation related to military operations, Ustka suffered another defeat - a fire, as a result of which many houses were burnt (only 15 and the church remained). Ustka began to revive only in the nineteenth century, when it was in the possession of the Prussian authorities. Ustka was granted city rights in 1935, and received its present name in 1946. Today, the port is a frequent sight for fishing, military and tourist ships mooring there during the summer season.
As in the case of every fishing village, the port was the most important point of the village even in the Middle Ages, also today it is one of the most popular places in Ustka. The building is distinguished primarily by the characteristic turrets, it was built in the style typical of the Art Nouveau period. Of course, the most important points in the port are the two piers there, which took their present form at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At that time, there were six taverns in the vicinity of the port - contrary to appearances, this is an impressive number, as Ustka had only 50 inhabitants at that time. The climate of the port town has been preserved until today, because in Ustka there are now many taverns and fish fryers, in addition, you can see military and passenger ships entering the port, and fishing boats are also a daily sight. As is known in the Middle Ages, Ustka was a typical fishing village. You can feel the atmosphere of those times in Ustka to this day, just go for a walk around Kosynierów and Marynarki Polskiej streets. In this place, the street layout, which used to be in the Middle Ages, has been preserved to this day. The spirit warehouse is a building located by the port, on its west side. At the end of the 19th century (1892), a pilot station was built in Ustka, to which a 22-meter tower was added to serve as a lighthouse.
Ustka is a city where you can spend a lot of time visiting monuments, but it is also worth getting to know other tourist attractions of this place. One of them is the Seaside Promenade. Once on the Promenade, you could hear the music played by an orchestra, but today there are numerous guesthouses and restaurants near the promenade. The promenade is a popular walking place among tourists, due to the picturesque landscapes that stretch there, as well as the benches where you can relax.
