UT Austin fires 60 DEI employees to comply with Texas law

The University of Texas at Austin announced layoffs of about 60 employees who worked in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, in compliance with Senate Bill 17, which banned DEI initiatives at public colleges and universities in Texas effective January 2024.

There would be no need for a DEI if the system was right. Why do they ask about my ethnicity when I'm purchasing a home, applying for a job, or renewing my insurance? If we are all the same, then what's the point of declaring ones race. 🤔

Applying for a new job and for the first time I started declining to answer any questions about ethnicity or gender. Why is it even relevant? Answering isn't going to increase my odds of being hired

White, and unwelcoming to those who are different. It will be interesting to see what the demographics of Texas colleges look like in 8-10 years compared to the rest of the country. I’m willing to bet student minorities percentages will come from sports programs and that’s about it.

That Texas isn't just white people. The system is built on discrimination, DEI is designed to combat that. It isn't what bigots think it is. People of different colors are just as skilled. DEI is to make sure that this fact isn't ignored. Idk why it's so hard for everyone to understand. Follow history, it makes sense. White doesn't mean better, everyone is the same

@@robertgreen1282 the literal definition is... a person who hates or refuses to accept the members of a particular group (such as a racial or religious group). You are telling me that the people saying that DEI stands for Didn't Earn It are not prejudging the people who get hired under those programs? DEI is designed to force the system to not leave people out. It's designed to give people a chance that would otherwise be looked over for their skin color or gender, etc. Idk how people don't understand. History has proven over and over that programs like this need to exist or people are ignored, EVEN IF THEY ARE QUALIFIED. They are qualified when they are hired. That's the point.
