I was in the US Army starting in 1971, the jungle fatigues that were developed for Vietnam were also authorized for wear by troops stationed in some tropical climates such as Panama Canal Zone. I knew of some units that had relaxed uniform requirements wearing them. A friend in EOD (Explosives Ordinance Detachment) wore jungle fatigues at Ft. Hood Texas as late as 1973. Something you might find interesting, I bought a footlocker from a veteran's widow a couple of years ago and it contained three sets of duck hunter type camouflaged sets from probably the mid-1960s, one set was never worn. He had been a Special Forces medic that had been medevaced out of Vietnam in 1968 and his footlocker sent home. There was also a used and a new jungle fatigue jacket without any nametape or US ARMY tape on either. Oddly, they were dated '69 which confused me since he was supposed to be already gone from Vietnam by then. There was a 1967 dated mess kit and a '66 dated canteen and several M-16 magazine pouches. There was also some undated First Aid type packets of bandages and other medical stuff. A time capsule.

Thank You for this comment. I definitely find it interesting, If You could be so kind to send me the pictures of the duck hunter uniforms and the bandage he had for my reference collection, I would greatly appreciate it. My email is RedIvanAirsoft@gmail.com Date wise as I explained in the video the fiscal year that is stamped on the gear starts 3 months prior the calendar year, usually the items still spend some time in the logistic chains but still there is a chance that this person was lucky enough to get item dated 69 at the end of 1968.

Nice touch to have a Skilcraft US Government pen in the pocket at 2:01. I’m an Army brat and those pens would write forever. Did my homework in early grade school with one Dad brought home from the Medical Field Service School at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He spent March, 67 to March, 68 in Vietnam. Ft. Sam was his first post after returning stateside.

A slight correction the utility uniforms were reintroduced after the war but in a new material and color this would be OG 507 and it would be in the dura-press material rather than the cotton of the OG 107

The ARVN actually made their own uniform from sateen fabric and their pocket is square not like the US one but sometimes the RVN use the US one but with ARVN buttons

Thank You for Your comment, you are right, most of the times they wore their own version with square pockets and they also had a ERDL version of it. One day I will try to make a video about ARVN uniforms.

Very informative, but you forget about "Tiger stripe" camo and widely used M65 jacket.

This video only about US uniforms, tiger stripe is South Vietnamese. Tiger stripe we briefly disused in this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bJamptel0amad6c.html Winter uniforms will be discussed in later videos based on the series popularity, but I didn’t see much pictures of M65 jacket in Nam since it is not suitable for tropical climate. I live in Florida and can wear it only one week in a year.

I just found something adding to the details of Tropical Combat Pants that no any collector or seller has mentioned before by comparing each pants in my collection and photos of the war period from internet. It may or may not be important or critical just depending on each individual preference.

A great video man! One question about leg ties on the cargo pockets on the trousers. What were they used for? And how were they used/tied?
@RedIvanMilitaryEng
@RedIvanMilitaryEng 2 жыл бұрын
This loops were used to secure the cargo pockets, when loaded. Not sure if it has something with the weight distribution or just movement prevention or both.
@AirsoftTipsandReviews

were the straps just tied around the leg or were they tied to something... maybe to the belt?
@RedIvanMilitaryEng
@RedIvanMilitaryEng 2 жыл бұрын
@@AirsoftTipsandReviews there were 2 loops between the legs in the groin area so the leg tights basically going around each lag and that you tightening them. I would watch video about On the Mike B channel, he has a repro of this pants on him, so you can see directly how it is done. It is simple but hard to me to explain with my level of English.
