People only remembering him for his comic roles in Hindi, are requested to also watch his Bengali movies (you can definitely find Ray's movies with English subtitles). Utpal Dutt is not just a personality, but a vast subject to study generation after generation.

Utpal Dutt ji was one of my very favorite comedian. I have seen the movie Goal Maal at least 25 times. Its his comedy that's one of the best part of the movie. The movie is a classic with Amol ji, Dina Pathak ji, Shobha Khote ji, Bindiya ji...but Utpal Dutt ji has done an outstanding job. God bless his family...We will always miss him..what a beautiful versatile actor...

हम जब छोटे थे तब लड़ाई वाली फिल्में ज्यादा देखा करते थे । अमोल पालेकर जी/ उत्पल दत्त जी का नाम सुनते ही भागते थे कि ये फिल्म नही देखेंगे पर एक दिन 13 जनवरी 1992 को दूरदर्शन पर शाम को गोलमाल फ़िल्म आ रही थी , पतंग उड़ाने का शौक नही था तो बड़े बुझे मन से गोलमाल देखने बैठ गया कि देखते हैं क्या है फ़िल्म में ... जैसे ही फ़िल्म चालू हुई तो समझ आया कि कोई कॉमेडी फिल्म है फिर टाइटल पर भी ध्यान गया तो लगा कि हां ये तो कॉमेडी ही है । बस एक शॉट क्या देखा कि पूरी फिल्म देख कर ही उठा ... उस दिन से उत्पल दत्त और अमोल पालेकर जी का फैन बन गया । उसके बाद तो उत्पल दत जी की लगभग सभी फिल्में ढूंढ ढूंढ कर देखी खास तौर पर अमोल पालेकर जी के साथ वाली नरम गरम .... आज तक मैंने जो सबसे ज्यादा बार फ़िल्म देखी है वो भी गोल माल है कम से कम 60 बार तो देखी ही होगी । ऐसे कलाकारों , राइटर्स, डायरेक्टर्स को शत शत नमन जिन्होंने ऐसी फिल्में बनाई और भारतीय दर्शकों को दी जो उनके दिलोदिमाग में सालों तक घर कर गयी ।🙏🙏

I guess very few people except Bengalees know that he was one the three iconic theatre kings of Bengal in his time. The two other stalwarts were Shombhu Mitra and Ajitesh Bandyopadhyay respectively keeping aside Professor Shishir Kumar Bhaduri - the inventor of modern stage acting in India. In his interviews, Mr. Dutta confessed that he used to bogus commercial movies - mainly Hindi movies for living and running his theatre group.

He looked like Young Kamal Hasan in his first movie. 😬 I simply loved his acting skill. Perfectly splendid. ❤️
