Here's an idea: Instead of an SD card, use a USB flash drive for saving logs to. You could also save all settings to the USB drive. You can then have your USB drive on your keychain, and when you plug it in you airplane just loads all your settings and details from there. If no USB stick is present it just defaults to a very simple set of instruments. I guess you could also have it search the USB drive for a particular file and refuse to turn on unless that file is present!
