Good music. So, this would be what's called a single pin crank, where both pistons are attached to the same pin, right? I understand there are also dual pin cranks such as exist in the Honda VTX 1800. Your animation shows the pistons firing just slightly apart. I would have expected them to fire directly opposite of each other for engine balance, but now that I see they are on the same pin, that would not be possible. Is there an advantage, or disadvantage, to a single vs a dual either way?

Interestingly, yes, the VTX 1800 is dual pin, but it’s little brother the VTX 1300 is a single pin, so the two have fairly different sounds.

Curious: If both cylinders are at exactly 45 degrees, shouldn't both of them be going down at the same time (and distance) from the top?

No they are both connected to one singular pin. As it would seem logically yes it should but the way Harleys are designed it cannot

@@devenreal well owning something isnt knowing something about them.. if you dont know what a patato sound is you sure need more history in motorcycles, and especially their engines.

@@ClosestNearUtopia It seems like you don’t have the slightest concept of what it really means to own something because when you do you understand everything about them service them and use them. There is no sound a potato makes it’s simply one strange person’s concept of hearing the actual sound its actually a pop and Varys on the muffler

Tried and true design that had been stolen from Indian Motor Co in the past it’s a great design and is iconic nowadays it’s why they have been perfecting it ever since.

Not everything has to be perfect all the time. Just enjoy some things. If you want a perfect machine, go drive a toyota corolla, my friend, no one is forcing you.

@@Alpi-yn5jk Toyota is not a perfect machine they have been getting cheaper and cheaper since the 90s With horrible recalls. If you ever have the chance to ride in Rolls Royce then you will finally understand perfection.
