I love seeing this generation of v12 amps tested. My first sub Amp was an alpine mrv-100m. If you ever find one of those I would have love to see what it did. This Amp was my first stereo heart break as it was stolen from my car at 17 along with my 2 pioneer impp 10s in a custom ported box. Thank you

Oh sweet! I've been waiting for this one. I have had 3 of these amps over the years. I still have 2 and i'm putting them into my suburban (doing the build on my channel), each one on it's own 15" Type-R. I love this amp! They sound amazing, not just loud, but clean and they reproduce the fine details of music.

I had 4 of these amps pushing 4 of the 12" solobaric L7s when they first came out in like 2000-2001. My first setup was 2 of them driving 4 4ohm 12" solobaric L7s running it at 2ohm mono. Bought 2 more and put 1 of them to each solobaric and those subs took it like a champ. The bass was tighter and the low notes were hitting WAY harder. Alot more good power for digging out those low notes (like 40hz and less). Also have the Alpine 757 2 channel to some custom kick panels and a Alpine 407 to all the interior speakers. All boston acoustic Pros. Car was so friggin loud lol. Finally getting back into the bass head game, I wish everyone was still driving around pounding there stereos like we did back in the day, that shit was so awesome!

This was my 2nd amp I bought back in 2002.. coming from a 2 channel Jensen 300w(my very 1st amp) amp to this was a big jump for me. This amp cooked my 12inch Jensen sub lol. After upgrading to a JBL GT 15inch I was in love.. the good old days haha

Thanks for testing this amp. I have one, but was skeptical about using it for full range use so I'm going to hook it up to a single Boston Acoustics 10.5LF Pro. It's 2ohm, but with the available power headroom I won't need to push it too hard and overheat it. At my age I'm more into accuracy now, not making my heart palpitate like my youth.

6 years later, and i stuck with 15 year old me's plan!!!! I got my Alpine MRV-1507 hooked up with 1/0 gauge OFC wire. And it is driving two 12" Kicker L7R122's in a sealed box, wired in series parallel getting 2 ohms bridged. The two woofers together have a total of 1200 watts RMS, and at 2 ohms as seen here, it's 1200 watts RMS at 2 ohms bridged!!! Before this I was running a single 12" Lanzar Max ST and a Lanzar Vibe 241 amp at 4 ohms bridged. It served me well, but it's nothing compared to the Kickers and the Alpine MRV-1507!!! I'm giving that old sub to my brother now.

The older MRV class like MRV-T500 used T03P style output transistors and included stamped brass jumpers only for the power supply and output transistors, it used B688 and D718 transistors, they love regulated power supplies! But it was a somewhat impressive amp and flawed, the boards used to be green and cheaply made, as you show they later switched to blue versions, the traces on the MRV-T500 had a major issue, they would use lots of thin wire jumpers along traces for the main inputs and outputs of the amp, since the traces would often just burn in half and break a connection, they could have used heavier copper traces instead of the 1 oz ones! The glass epoxy boards were even filled or opaque and just glassed on both sides instead being of a solid multilayer glass epoxy board that is nearly transparent! Seeing the 1507 guts shows they made many upgrades over a the next few years to improve product quality, but may still include some jumpers to protect a trace! The difference in the quality of the board then is similar to the Polk Audio's design of today, but at least Polk does have thicker traces and no jumpers running parallel through them, Alpine obviously knew this was a flaw in their design and manufacturing, so they opted for hoping jumpers along them would decrease heat buildup and increase current flow and prevent burn through's! They do have nice clamps for the transistors from that era, where they later changed to a cheaper design that mounted directly to the amp, but I hated the separate mounting bars that had to be fastened to the heat-sink like the 1507 shows, it is not one solid piece! It requires way more thermal paste and if it dries "Like it always does", the connection to the main heat-sink will not be as efficient for heat transfer as it would with fresh thermal paste. But it is easy to disassemble just the mounts and leave the transistors clamped to them to clean and freshen the bond! The difference can be as much as a 6-15 degree drop in temps! Still even the MRV-T500 had some impressive numbers, like the 1507 shows it should, but the design should have been better for the price Alpine was always known for charging consumers! See if you can find a Earthquake 400TX to dyno, I'd like to know what it's numbers are! As well as a Kenwod Excelon KAC-X1R!

She feeds 4 sets of 3 ways and will get a sub on channel 5 soon. Crisp sound and it gets very loud but without distortion! Great amp

I actually have one 1505 bought new back in 97', stayed 13 years in box and now working since 7 years, this amp is a beast, It push 2 15' sub in 2 ohms mono load with ease, it just need to be fed with the right gauge cables to deliver all his clean power without overheating.....I have the 1005 running at 2 ohms stereo for 4 front midbass, killer amps i must say.... Also had the 1507 that was intended to push one of my 15 'but the 1505 has did the job so well for the 2 15' that I had to sell it.

I wouldn't recommend running these 1507's at 2 ohms bridged. They are not rated for this in the manual and specs. They can blow up if used like this for an extended period of time. I get more of these amps for repair because of use at 2 ohm or lower. 14.4v Per channel into 4 ohms ......................... 225W, 0.08% THD Per channel into 2 ohms .......................... 450W, 0.3% THD Bridged into 4 ohms ................................ 900W, 0.3% THD Bridged into 2 ohms ..................................MAGIC SMOKE

The V12 MRV-1507 was a badass amp back in the day. I had one powering my JL Audio 10w5's (very rare JL's back in the day) and I had a V12 MRV-757 powering my highs and mids. It sounded pretty awesome for only having 2-10's. I can't remember what I hit but it was above 140 and that wasn't bad back then for what I had. I switched to JL 12w6's and hit 148 with the same amps. I loved my Alpine V12's.

The magic of the 1507 et al is not just the pure horsepower, but the fact that it does it down to DC with zero phase errors. That's no mean feat, and with the right drivers and the right cabinet you get fully-bad deconstruction of nearby objects and frantic approaches by shop owners who want their objects to remain on-selves etc. No joke - I've had a car full of teenagers jump out and run, and a whole street of retailers begging for the safety of their shops. Direct-coupled speakers and dual-gap speakers are god. Serious. Try it. Edit: add some BBE and rip the neighbourhood a new asshole.

Wow cool to see you tested a V12, I have an MRV-F307 4 channel in my truck, got it at the little thrift store kinda place we have here in town who sell antiques also. I knew for sure it was a few years old by its styling but 1999? Damn the thing is 2 years older than I am (young stereo enthusiast here). My 307 claims 4x50watts rms at 4 ohm but it definitely puts out more than that, setting the gain with my scope and it almost blew out my speakers while I was adjusting it to no clipping, I guess this thing was not made with 5V level inputs in mind because I decided to just have it nearly at minimum gain as to not completely blow out my speakers at max volume, still gets insanely loud. Do you by chance have a way of sending a photocopy of that magazine page with the V12 amps featured in it? I thought I saw the 307 in there, it'd be cool to see.

I had two of these 1507's back around 2008. I picked them up for less than $200 each, and I could kick my own ass for it, because they're insanely expensive now. I miss the beautiful A/B sound.

I mean one of the tests showed it had a draw of 175 amps. (That is more than double the 80 amp fuse)

I had one of these with 2 MTX thunder 8000’s (I think they were 12 inchers). When I was way younger. Is that a good setup? I really don’t know much about what’s good regarding car stereos

Been a while can you run 2 dual 4s on this amp on each channel that would be 2ohm onhms on each channel in 2 channel mode or would that be 1 ohm mono. Like todays amps

I have a even older alpine V12 with me, an MRV-F400. Not sure much about those apart from that they were pretty costly back in the 90s? It saw service in 3 different cars and it's still going but it's now sitting at home doing nothing because I just want to give a dignified retirement although it still looks fantastic I never used it in real service at home because it's a class B amp and I have much better amps doing service for hifi so i don't really give much thought about putting it into service again

I'm not sure if we got unlucky, or these amps just sucked, but the shop where I worked at kept getting these V12 alpines returned. They always seemed to fail on the customer. Maybe their "protect mode" was too strict?

+remyrick A yeah, then they look on eBay and price through the roof. I see both ways. There are articles explaining differences between amp topologies. Too difficult to explain here. Maybe a future video?

I’ve had this amp for years and just picked up 1xhippo 84 4ohm dvc. If I use the 4ohm bridged for 900w and only use one of the voice coils on the hippo (equal 4ohm), does that half the wattage since I am using only 1 voice coil? If wired the sub in parallel to equal 2 ohm, the end result would be the same?
@ChociStarfish
@ChociStarfish 5 жыл бұрын
Wire the voice colis in parallel. You will get the twice the power you have now if you run the amp bridged at 2ohms
