Ford Falcon with a 302 or 5.0 V8 and a 4-speed auto AOD trans. It's just the right amount of fast.

i am guessing that the space on the doors where the wing windows mounted was that way due to the manual roll up windows and once power windows because standard they no longer had part of the door being used by the window crank device so they just made more window

"I didn't want this... whole muscle car look to it." B&M MEGASHIFTER DISAGREES
@alexantilla39263 жыл бұрын
Andrew Humphrey that’s not how drag racing works my man. As modern autos have gotten better, they’ve become better for drag racing so you get better launches with a trans brake and more consistent passes. But most drag racers still want control over when the trans shifts. So ratchet-style shifters like the Megashifter came along to allow you to just bump the lever and have it shift without having to take your attention away from keeping the car going straight down the track. It’s there purely so you can make faster, more consistent passes without having to worry about blowing your motor up if it slips into neutral with your foot buried. Now we can argue back and forth all day on how “manly” or “muscular” it is to have a Megashifter but the bottom line is if you look in almost an modern, purpose-built drag car, you’ll find an auto with a ratchet shifter on it.

@Andrew Humphrey Maybe in 1986 lol, most modern funny cars don't use manual shifter levers

Lap and shoulder + different glass (if not already changed) and a collapsible steering column (if not already installed.) They're gonna need the lap and shoulder belts in any collision, that darn steel dashboard... Yugh. I know how it feels to bump into steel by just _walking_ into it (Antique sled, overhanging near where I was walking) so a dashboard is like jumping out a two-story window or worse, right onto asphalt.

I'm so happy you got your dream car and it's finally a reality. I've got a few minor notes to share. I would have stuck a unsuspecting black column shifter on it since it could be located anywhere. The still-terrible steering ratio can be fixed by a few more hours into the gears on the rack. 3rd gear kick down issue needs to be addressed, having to do something extra just to overtake might get you in a bind. Otherwise, I would drive this car until I grew of old age and tired of fixing it.

The low frequency flutter that you hear around 11:09 leads me to believe there may be a slight imbalance in either the flexplate or the driveshaft. I think it's the flexplate, as you hear it change with engine rpm later in the video. Do you feel any vibrations in the wheel that are engine speed? especially over 2k rpm? If so, balance the motor before you chew through the bearings.

So it is a weird kind of automatic? Why no stickshift?
@digitalrailroader7 жыл бұрын
It's a standard Ford AOD 4 speed Automatic transmission, mr Regular installed a B&M Megashifter (which is really designed to be used in a drag racing configuration, hence the ratcheting mechanism) because he had to modify the steering column since the TCI K member moved the steering rack from the stock falcon location. When he modified the column, it pretty much ruined the column shifter mechanism.

I wonder if some detailing would make the car finish look more like the wheels? I realize this car's from the pre-clear coat era though. Still, by clay barring my 1984 Chevy I've been getting subtle layers of oxidation out of the clear coat so maybe claying this car would work? I don't know about claying pre-clear coat era cars though.
