WORLD EXCLUSIVE ON THEWATCHES.TV
Coinciding with the brand’s 260th anniversary, Vacheron Constantin presented what is simply the world’s most complicated watch ever produced. The former “record” of number of complications was set at 36 and Vacheron Constantin has now raised the bar to an incredible 57!!!
It took 8 years for the Atelier Cabinotiers of the brand, a department dedicated to bespoke watches, to develop this unique timepiece after a savvy collector placed this very special order. The project evolved during this period of time and presented some real challenges that were each time tackled with a fresh and new approach to the development of these complications, which naturally have to all function together.
Domique Bernaz in charge of the Ateliers Cabinotiers and Retail Director of the brand explains us the behind the scenes of this outstanding performance. And TheWATCHES.tv is the only media to have actual footage of this extraordinary watch, so enjoy this exclusive look at the Reference 57260 and please find the exhaustive and impressive list of complications on our website.

Fun fact: this watch took eight years to design and make by three different watch makers, 10 patents were filed in the process of making it work, the design drawings in total weigh 16 kg, 85 prototypes were made (that were all functioning watches on their own), and the project cost millions of dollars.

That is simply jaw-dropping incredible...I hope there is going to be a much longer documentary film on this watch where we can see the interior movement in detail and perhaps have the engineers who worked on it interviewed....nonetheless this was a great video and thank you for showing us this historic piece.Just amazing.....PS It may be slightly crass to ask but I'm just curious as to how much this must've cost this collector in the end....8 years is a long time to have three engineers dedicated to this one project,so obviously,it must be astronomically high. Can you imagine if this ever sent up for auction what it would fetch?

All I can say is that I am breathless. Man can never compete with nature as far as micro-miniaturisation , but these ingenious people are having a go. When young I was in a team in a drawing office of Chatham Dockyard putting together the proposal drawings to build submarines. When there is little room to play with, coordination with other people is of utmost necessity. I can say that the team who planned this marvellous piece of engineering had many sleepless nights. Congratulations , there are so many intelligences necessary to make such a masterpiece.

I completely understand that having that many complications is a huge undertaking and practicality does not have too much credence(only one person will have the watch at a time and it will most likely sit behind thick glass somewhere in a mansion) but that thing could not fit in any pocket. THAT’S FREAKING INSANE!!! It’s, like, EVERY COMPLICATION IN EXISTENCE (plus some brand new ones) IN ONE WATCH!!! Here’s a summary: Dual time zones An alarm that can play literally any chime you can think of (Westminster, Grand/Petite Sonnerie, regular single-gong strike) Hourly (and possibly quarter-hourly too) striking with Westminster or Grand/Petite Sonnerie Minute repeater 3-column wheel chronograph with split seconds (two second hands) Full-fledged Gregorian perpetual calendar Full-fledged Hebrew perpetual calendar Full-fledged astronomical perpetual calendar (including sunrise, sunset, night length, day length, moon phases, equation of time, and a whole lot more) Yom Kippur date indication Dual power reserve indicators Hand adjustment system Pop-out crown for winding the alarm mechanism And that’s just a small fraction of what this thing is capable of!

What an astonishing piece! I doubt that it will be worn though :( I know it would be a shame to scuff it, but nobody will ever see this watch again. Would have loved to hear the chiming, but nevertheless a top quality video as always!

If aliens ever ask us: "How far have your race come mechanically / technically?" I say we give them one of these to examine. I bet it would surprise them!

How about space shuttle?., about 2.5 million moving components.

@@ansar1809 a space shuttle is not fully mechanical is it? There is a difference between a Van Gogh and a computer printed picture, same goes to fully mechanical and electrical and internal combustion.

@@CrazyGopnik1 well yeah it's not completely mechanical, but it is very technical and combines all aspects.

@@ansar1809 I don't think you realize how many centuries it took for horology to reach this level. Space shuttles and jet engines took like 50 years to develop from basically nothing.

it is a master piece, in the best way to say it, it is a monster, an engineering achievement, just hope that whoever has it knows to appreciate it... i dont think the collector who bought it knows really what he has... he just came like "ahhh i want 36 complications, ahhhh the most complicated watch on the world, ahhh ok"... he doesnt even knew what he wanted... i dont know, thats how i feel... usually rich people dont know how to value what they have, like art pieces, or this watch... you can buy the best, but cant buy class, intelligence, wisdom or education. And im not bitter 😅

The best is still the Marie Antoinette's Breguet 1160, just 23 complications, however, it was made in 1783, that was more than 2 centuries ago :)!
