Can this car Autosail like VW and MB? It looks like there is no choice to zero out recuperation. When driving an electric car it is very nice to be able to take your foot of the accelerator without the car entering recuperation. This is more comfortable and also saves energy as energy is lost every time you enter recuperation and don't really wish to loose speed. As in seeing a light turn to red 100m in front of you; it is nice to go of the pedal, and sail towards light hoping it will go green before you need to stop completely.

Opel has just been sold off by GM to the PSA Peugot/Citroen group. I wonder what this will mean for the European version of the Chevy Bolt? This car is the leader at the moment in terms of range & cost specs, so it could do very well if supplied/marketed properly. This model beats the 200+mile range that could be the 'tipping point' for much greater EV take-up. HOWEVER... Here in the UK the car is not for sale and it seems no announcement that it ever will be has been made. If there was a Vauxhall branded RHD version here I reckon it would gain some real interest/sales in this market.

I'm intrigued as to what might happen to the Opel Ampera E. Not to be confused with the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera, which is a very sophisticated hybrid. The Ampera E is a totally electric battery vehicle. But the Ampera E is a car without a parent company. It's former parent was GM, which has the Chevrolet Bolt, an almost identical car. The Ampera E is now effectively owned by PSA Group, but made by GM under licence - which they lose money on. So it's an odd one. It's an excellent car, by all accounts, but will its value stay reasonable, or will it depreciate like a stone? Could be an excellent secondhand buy in years to come as there is so little to go wrong. And the battery will still have an excellent range after 8-10 years, unless it goes faulty after the 8 year warranty runs out, which is unlikely. Far less likely than a FFV ICE going faulty, for instance.
@adithyaramachandran74277 жыл бұрын
I have a feeling this car will be very successful in Europe, where Petrol is pretty expensive, people are modestly sized, and emission regulations are tight. Here in America, gas is cheap, people are overweight, and with our new president emission regulations will be relaxed, which means EV's wont sell.

Looks like the REAL driving range si close to 300 km. The display is showing Max 270 km, Max 287 km. That is future range calculated by past driving style. The car has 750 km on the clock, so it's new and the performance of the battery is at its best. Anyway, a 300 km range looks decent (500 km NEDC cycle) for regular driving and it is a bit more than the BMW i3. Speaking of BMW i3, this car copies the i3 and BMW so much! The exterior styling like i3, gear selector looks like a BMW one (but not i3).

So sad that the Ampera-E has single phase charging, this effectively means 3kW charging at public chargers. Why o why could they not have fit a 3 phase 11kW charger for Europe like BMW, Tesla and Renault. Capping the CCS at 50kW isn't funny either with a battery this large. 3kW charging was fine on the 2010 i-MiEV, not a 2017 model.
@AndY1ksi7 жыл бұрын
Single phase @32Amps on type2 Mennekes charging station allows charging to up to 7.2kW.
@emmahoeve7 жыл бұрын
In the video we're told the Ampera-e also has 3 phase Mennekes type 2 charging possibilities, look good at the first 5 minutes.
@AndY1ksi7 жыл бұрын
At 3:22 it clearly states, that it has a single phase on-board charger, which charges at max 7.2kW, which is single phase 230V*32A. Yes, it uses the Mennekes Type2 3 phase plug, because that's a standard plug in Europe, but it uses only a single phase out of that plug.
@databeestje7 жыл бұрын
I fully know that it is capable of single phase charging at 32A, but when over 80% of the public chargers are 11kW 3*16A units you effectively have a 3.6kW charger. And that is bloody slow. Basically this car could charge 3 times as fast on public points if it had a 11kW onboard charger. The other problem is that a 3*25A grid connection costs the same as a 1*35A in NL. But with a 3*25A you can do 11kW charging with a smart EVSE (OpenEVSE/SmartEVSE). But with a 1*35A grid connection you are limited to a 1*25A EVSE (a 32A group is not allowed on a 35A grid connection, selectivity). Assuming you also want to use things like the dishwasher and microwave/oven.
@databeestje7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it has the plug, no, it doesn't have the bottom 2 pins. I just see L1, N and Ground. I don't see the bottom L2 and L3 pins. (not counting the DC pins of the CCS socket)

The main problem with this advertised range of 500 km is the used driving cyle which it is based on. The NEFZ ist just a fraud. It allows too many manipulations by the manufacturer. The range value of the EPA is much more reliable.
@Bekkenes7 жыл бұрын
Max 272 km? A bit from what it should have on full, to say the least.
@ekhaat7 жыл бұрын
As one could deduce from what Mr. Hannapel said, the range display is rather conservative, meaning it will not promise what it can not keep, so when it says 272, you could probably drive a lot further. Plus, in cold weather range goes down significantly. And if car actually is capable of doing 350 km in real world (albeit summer) conditions, they would not advertise 272 km, would they? Would you?
@Bekkenes7 жыл бұрын
ekhaat you can get roughly same out of the current i3 with a promised 300km range , so even wintertime 272 is rather poor with a 500km US rating

You'll find that there really aren't that many different car companies. There are a few major car manufacturing groups. VW has 14 brands/companies under its umbrella: Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda Auto, Volkswagen, MAN, Scania, Volkswagen Erhvervsbiler and more, GM has 18: Alpheon, Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Corvette, Damas/Lobo, GMC, Jiefang, Opel, Opel Performance Center, Holden, Holden Special Vehicles, UzDaewooAvto, Wuling og Vauxhall, and Toyota Motor Company: Daihatsu, Hino, Lexus, Ranz, Toyota...you get the picture.

uhh, it makes me so god damn furious that the Opel Ampera-e will not come with Right-Hand-Drive. So no 200 mile EV for Ireland, mainly due to the UK brexiting leaving GM to avoid the cost of development for a RHD.
@0tispunkm3y3r7 жыл бұрын
toyotaprius79 yeah that's not true at all. Brexit happened a few months ago. this car has been in development for years. no rhd decision would have been taken well before that and is likely due to Vauxhall/Opel having fluffed selling the the volt as the ampera in the UK. they didn't sell many at all so pulled the plug and decided not to sell us the bolt either (for the time being). I believe it will come though because there's more appetite for it these days. the volt was, imo, just a little premature for the UK. it's also a shame we won't get the volt2 either. oh and stop blaming everything on Brexit. it's becoming a lazy excuse for anything people don't like.

Very low quality / cheap looking interior. Disappointed.
