Hi everyone!!
I really wanted to upload this video in response to "To the Bone". I thought it would be interesting for me to share my opinion, as I suffer from anorexia and have for almost 7 years. In short, I really enjoyed the movie and didn't find it triggering! It definitely had aspects that could have been shown differently but all in all, I think it was pretty good!
** I mention spoilers and the movie, so if you think you might be triggered by this video please do not watch!! **

I loved the fact that they showed all the different types of people who can suffer from eating disorders, like you said they did a good job portraying them all and also in a pretty accurate way

This poor young lady should hear the lovely song Daniel Westling commissioned for his wedding to Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden who suffered from not only anorexia but also dyslexia. It is called "When You Tell the word you're Minel".

Valerie, such a great video! This is the first review I actually liked. I've watched the film and I'm conflicted about it. I wasn't triggered by Elis' body either and also the behaviors that were shown aren't triggering for me. Sometimes I found it overdone, too staged in a way. For me being from Germany, this doesn't really represent treatment, but inpatient is different in every country I guess. For the rest that you said I'd have to agree! I still think that they tried a bit too hard at some points and overdid it, like I don't think the romance between Luke and Eli was necessary, also the character of Pearl was almost comical, but maybe that's just my opinion. xx

you can have an ED at ANY weight, it's about your thoughts, it's in your head. that's why many ppl think they "have to lose weight in order to be sick enough" and that needs to stop!!

If your skinny to the point were you are going to die, or fat and think worse about yourself the skinny person is still sicker

I'm agree with you: the movie is not triggering. It think it's the most responsible movie about anorexia that i've seen.

I agree that it was kinda weird, but I guess I can see Ellen's desperate need for comfort? I don't even know if that was the point of the scene to be honest!!!

Honestly I dkbt think it should be considered anorexia if your overweight because it's not effecting you to the point were you would starve yourself, I just feel that it's not fair to give the same attention to someone who is not as sick

Blissfully MINE anorexia doesn’t have a “look.” Eating disorders aren’t just about physical appearance + starts with a lot of behavioral + psychological thinking. It’s a myth that all anorexic people are skinny.

Yes recovery has to come from within but really saying that its people's fault? No one's eating disorder is THEIR own fault. I would think someone who has "been in patient four times" you would know better than that .You have to be careful with your words because whether or not thats what you mean your words still MATTER.

Hi there thanks for your comment! I presume that you're referring to my point around 11:30. I would like to clarify what I meant once again. I never said an eating disorder is someone's fault...but who made the decision to not eat/purge/binge/whatever one may do? I've heard it plenty of times from a variety of therapists that those with eating disorders are responsible of their own behaviours. Yes, there are triggers, but I will never blame my eating disorder on anyone else but myself. Perhaps you are at a different stage in recovery, but I have come to terms with the fact that I am in control of my actions, whether they be destructive or constructive. I hope this clarifies what I meant!

I don't think it was necessarily to show that "black people are fat", but rather to include diversity in the film. I doubt that the filmmaker who suffered from an eating disorder herself would dare do that!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts
