You didn't mention the slope trick. These techniques are good to create flat ground but if you want a slope, it will come out jagged and uneven due to the flat spots created by the Level Ground tool. However: if you hold SHIFT (controller L1/LB, default keybind RUN) while aiming the Level Ground tool, it will instead level relative to the location you're pointing at, and it will respect inclines and slopes. Use SHIFT+CLICK on your sloped paths to keep the slopes smooth and prevent your cart from bumping on the ground as you run.

Once you've flattened the immediate area I like to place down one of the 1x1 or 2x1 wooden beams and stand on top of it to flatten the rest of the area, especially if it's going to be a large area. This allows you to compare the land to a straight line as well as give better footing for more consistent flattening, as even while 'flat' the ground has some small dips in it that could cause some inconsistencies over a large flattening project.

I'm not that much of a fan of Terraforming. I love implementing the surroundings into my build, to make things look more natural and individual. Found a small island that I could easily reach and it had one big tree on it. I built the house around it, with a little garden. But yeah, sometimes you don't get around Terraforming and these tips will defintely become handy

It might be just me but I actually find the CULTIVATOR to be better at initial flattening and then going back over it with the hoe. Cultivator seems to have less issues with bumps and stuff that refuse to flatten like you get with the hoe.
