On Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, with shovels in the ground and earthmovers on site, Mapleton officially broke ground for the new Valley View PK-8! Valley View opened in 1959 and quickly became a pillar of the neighborhood. After 60 years of serving students, Valley View closed at the end of the 2018-19 school year and was demolished in the spring of 2020. Thanks to community support and funding ($17M!) from the state's Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant program, Mapleton is now in the construction phase of "the new View.”
When collaborating on the new school building, The Neenan Company and Mapleton Public Schools focused on supporting Project-Based Learning (PBL), a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects. The learning spaces soon to be constructed are flexible, unique, and interactive. We are so excited to move into the construction phase of the new Valley View PK-8 building and look forward to welcoming both students and staff in the fall of 2022!
