i have the viltrox 85mm 1.8 MKII which the tokina is a legit clone of it and its awesome. i love it. only thinkg i dont like is the lens hood. its cheap but other than that, the lens was amazing. i got it during a sale for $349!!!

I bought a Tokina 100mm f2,8 macro for my Nikon and I'm pretty much satisfied with it. It's cheaper and as good as the big Nikkor. Tokina is a good brand !

I'm not a Sony shooter , Fujifilm here , looks like a very nice lens , I do have the Tokina AT-X 100mm f2,8 ( recommended by Ken Wheeler ) it's very nice Macro lens , If I ever buy a Sony ,will deffo give this lens a try . Thanks .

Thanks for the great review! I also think this lens offers currently the best "bang for the buck" for an 85mm 1.8 lens and imho an even nicer bokeh than the Sony 85mm 1.8.

Hmm ... in Europe that lens is 579 Euros after taxes. Put 170 on that and you can get a Sigma Art 85/1.4 used already ...

Don't buy the Tokina 85mm F.18FE if you have a Sony A7 IV because it randomly locks-up. I never had such a problem before upgrading from Sony A7 II. Problem is definitely a lens issue because I don't see such a problem with my other Sony 85mm and Sigma lens. I also have the latest firmware updates.Tokina support is basically non-existent (no phone numbers to call and they ignored my contact form requests). Otherwise, the lens worked great for my Sony A7II. Lens are sharp and fast auto focus.

I just got this lens - 2 days ago. Have shot around 100 frames before it completely froze my camera (A7III with latest firmware). I had to reboot the camera for it to start working again. Much as I love the lens and the build and feel, I must say I was really disappointed, because otherwise the image quality is on par with the Sony GM or Sigma DG DN ART...for a fraction of the price. If it happens again, I am sending it back.

Darren, I'm in the market for an 85mm. I'm debating between Nikkor 85mm 1.8G and the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm 1.4 What do you recommend me? Both lenses are the same price (pretty much). Thank you!

Hi Darren. Do you also have the weird shape of the shutter hole in your copy of Tokina 85 f1.8? My copy has a very irregular shape. It starts at f2.8 and gets worse with the transition to f16. I've never seen anything like it before. Maybe I got a faulty lens?
