Still got my D5 and use it with lens in low light and is a beast. Performs better than using my Z9 or Z8 in low light. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Funny ... just stumpled upon your Channel via the Profoto vs Godox video. Seen that it is 3 years old and asked myself if you still make videos. And just found this video a month after its release! Keep going - and yes, there is a demographic who doesn't need the same lens review over and over but professional targeted topics, lessons and/or thought discussions.

For those that talk down about sensor size, pixel count or brands other than Nikon, Canon or Sony, fail to understand that what makes digital photography great today is the selection of cameras and glass from all the different camera manufacturers. I just returned from a vacation to Aruba, I packed a Panasonic G9 and a Olympus OMD EM5 with a variety of glass, the camera I used the most was the Em5 ,the main lens 12-100 f4 and a few primes mostly the Panasonic 9mm f1.7 and 15mm. The package was small and I had the camera with one lens with me at dinner on Eagle beach or on the Palm pleasure, a 80 foot catamaran sail boat, out on a sunset Sail. I had it poolside and at one of the hot tubs with a back drop of rocks and red flowers I took a beautiful photo of my wife relaxing in the water with the flowers and rocks as my back drop. I have used a variety of 4/3 cameras in many situations like this over the years and the compact nature of the system shines through, when I travel on vacation all my big full frame cameras and glass stay home.

The new Lumix cameras have now a competitve AF but they also pulled away with stabilization in video from everything else. They are somehow doing something like Action-cam e-stabilization on top of the already great IBIS. This works on the G9-II and now GH7 in M43 but it also works on the S5-II and S9 in FF. A gimbal is still better, especially if you do controlled pan moves but if you walk, run or need the moving camera in positions where the gimbal don't fit, it's very helpful. In M43 it is also possible to film in slow motion like 4k120p, 5.7k60p or Open Gate (the full 25MP in 4:3) that allows to slow down shake or reframe/stabilize in post.

The GH7 should have been the GH6 of 2 years ago. The GH7 is a good camera but lack of ambition, Lumix should have provide some groundbreaking stuff to maka it the king of video.

I got rid of my Nikon full frame gear last year and invested in a Panasonic G9 and Olympus Em-5 III with some mixed primes and zooms. And I love it. I know that the G9 is from 2017, but with the updates that have been added I really don't see myself needing more than this camera as it is. I'm not professional or anything, though I do use it to shoot portraits and headshots for my work (not what I'm hired from), and it works great. I get that there are some who need the newest new and the craziest specs, but I think that for most of us, 95% of photographers, we don't really need what is being pushed on the market right now. Nor do we need full frame. The more I've been doing photography, the more I'm attracted to and appreciating the smaller form factor of MFT. Sure. the largest cameras are the same size as the ordinary full frame cameras, but the lenses are still small, particularly the zooms. Take a look at Sigma's new zoom lens, what is it, 28-45mm. That thing is huge. Larger than two primes of 28mm and 45mm. It just doesn't make sense to me. Is MFT dead? Not to me, and apparently not to Panasonic either. In another five years I'll probably update to a G9 II.

Why dead?Less than a year ago the G9m2 was released with fhase detect AF. I own this camera ,and it's just great.Great results, advanced features and the outofocus is finally excellent. G9M2 is photocentric .Thr GH7 is videocentric camera.

I suspect that orders have dropped because many people don't think the Olympus looks like a professional camera. Everyone thinks that full-frame and larger is the right thing. It's a shame. But I'll stick with my MFT equipment.

Why not?, I can't blame you. I love Olympus and have bought many of their products. From audio recorders, printers, and cameras. M43 was only dead if you are one of those people that follows the hype online. The technology becomes older, but that doesn't mean you can't use the camera. Keep shooting with whatever you desire.

I got a good deal on a used one on ebay, and used it for a wedding and a few portrait shoots, but honestly, I got better results with th 50mm f2 macro lens. The 35-100 let in too much light most of the time, so I would stop it down to f2.8. Focal length didn't fit for me. So, I went with the 50-200mm. The 35-100 was heavy and bulky too, impressive looking, but again, I felt like I got better results with the macro lens and it was so much lighter.

Def new photographers get hung up about gear. Ive been using my Sony a7rIII going on 6 years. And the photos are so very different. Composinh, lighting/light shaping, and distance along with just understand how to edit in post along with trying to get it right in camera as much as possible comes with time.

Always great to see you and hear your comparative point of view. Glad you are still sharing your knowledge with the time and dedication it takes to make these videos. Let me put a bug in your ear about future videos about gear: NOT A GEAR REVIEW in the typical sense. Yes, other people have done this, but your personal take and type of work you do would be extremely useful to a lot of people that do not have the budgets of Lindsey Adler, Karl Taylor, or Jerry Ghionis. In a series of videos (separate series of videos on portraits, landscapes, weddings etc), you could cover which lens or types of lenses (primes vs zooms) you prefer and why, what focal lengths you find most useful for your style, what focus modes you find most helpful, and what strobes, stands, modifiers you found particularly helpful and why. The focus could be your decision making on what stand to take with you and why. You get the idea. Your viewpoint is always appreciated, and often on KZfaq, there is a practical side missing. Important points like not cheaping out on stands or what kind of stands for what that you find helpful would be appreciated. Thanks as always - and appreciate your efforts. One last thing: Purchased my first strobe system 4 months ago (Godox) on sale and price and convenience was definitely an issues. I just find it amazing that I can shoot one shot in TTL, and then through the transmitter, dump the settings and go to manual mode if I desire - without going to look or touch the light itself. How cool is that? Haven't faced the overheating issue yet (because it's been winter here in Texas), but I will definitely watch for this.

Okay I’m rewatching this now and I just wanna complain with you about the bad lens caps. Most of my modern lenses have terrible lens caps! I recently got an old Pentax 645 macro lens that has a lens cap with much smaller tabs (harder to accidentally press) and a lip around the outside edges that keeps it in place as well! They figured out lens caps in the olden days, but somehow forgot!

Welcome back to KZfaq. I'm a Profoto user and I have to say the 4 to 6 week turnaround time has not been my experience. If your product is still under warranty, they generally send it back within 5 to 7 days, even says it on thier website. I've had to send one of the new triggers back and got a brand new replacement within a week. And just sent back a B10X that would not turn on and received it back within 10 days.

Love the video, however, I would disagree with you about "new" photographers being hung up on gear. Most of the videos I watch and things I read in FB forums are very experienced photographers talking about "gear" and what they use and how they got the picture. So I'm just saying, don't put that misnomer on beginning photographers.

Nice to see you! I really believe you are taking your channel in the right direction ! Indeed, what makes great photos is a great photographer. "Good" gear is not enough as not every gear is good for every job; It needs to be the proper gear for the job... And of course, one needs to have the right techniques and knowledge to get the most out of the gear he owns... even being able to work it in total darkness, quckly. As much as I always like your reviews, the idea of sharing your knowledge will surely be most appreciated by new and also by experienced photographers. Looking forward to your next video. Take care Darren! 👍😎👍

HI Darren - a couple things. The AD 400 Pro is bigger than the 300 but not terribly so and with go longer. Also the AD 600 Pro doesnt really have this problem at all. That said there is a hack to Godox lighting and over-heating. It is not perfect but can get you through in a pinch, and that is to remove the battery and put it back in. This seems to reset the mechanism that is controlling the overheating. I suspect that the overheating throttle is software based and not so much because the light is on the verge of melting - so taking out the battery resets the shot count and allows you to keep shooting more steadily. You may have to do this several times to get through, but it works in the immediacy and can get your through. Of course, do so at your own risk - at some point you might damage the light - but in my experience you can do this several times without any real problem. -PD

Hi Darren. no mention was made of size difference, or even if you cared. The Profoto looks significantly bigger than the Godox. Maybe an AD 600 is less likely to overheat than the AD 300, and may be a consideration if you don't mind a bigger flash

Just that the ad300 pro is "portable" - the B1X is a brick by comparison.
