Thanks for the video, best one yet on checking the valve clearances. There have been a lot of failures on the rocker arm rollers.

very interesting about the effect of sand on the odometer. I'd never heard that before but it makes sense.

Should have a rag under the cam gear to help stop any bolts or shims from falling inside the engine it's good practice also should not rotate a cam reverse if planning to valve clearance reading can give a false seating for TDC & measurements best do another full rotation .
@matus69sk6 жыл бұрын
Rag is a great idea, thanks for mentioning. Why do you think that reverse rotation can give false reading? I was doing recently valves on my 990, and I was thinking about it - I see no reason, it is pure mechanical thing. But I'd like to know your opinion. PS: it is nearly impossible to get the 690 to TDC without going back - it is very unstable at the TDC.

Thanks great video. When I removed the plastic cover to reveal the crankshaft bolt oil poured out, is that normal?

Do you mean the bolt at 3:50?

What kind of gasket is the valve cover gasket made out of is it rubber that would be reasonable. Or is it a paper kind that I need to buy a new one every time I take the valve cover off. Planning on checking my valves this weekend but I need to know so I can order the gasket
@matus69sk6 жыл бұрын
it's rubber...you can reuse it until it starts leaking.

ALWAYS replace any pre 2015 rocker arms on any 690 no matter what they look like. The pre 2015 rockers fail because the needle rollers move out of the arm because of a fault in the design which was meant to assist preening the rocker around the roller cage ends but they took away too much material. You can see that in this video if you look hard.The 2015 onwards look different if you inspect them, they do not have a deep rebate around the ends of the needle cages and should be stamped 15, or 16 or 17 etc. NEVER risk blowing your engine up for the sake of putting in a £150 set of upgraded rockers. Mine went at 8000 miles on a brand new 2014 ER.

could you pls provide the part number for the upgraded rocker arm? Thanks
@glenndavis27625 жыл бұрын
yes, please provide the new updated part numbers and what exactly we replace - I've got a 2008 - thanks

Looks like your spark plugs are in place may want to remove one to make aligning the timing marks easier
@matus69sk5 жыл бұрын
that helps for sure! As I was doing it outside, I rather keep them in place, so nothing falls inside.
@piootr216 жыл бұрын
why dont block engine with blocking screw ,only looking on header,blocking the crankshaft is a more accurate measurement of valve clearance...
@matus69sk6 жыл бұрын
yes I recommed to use blocking screw. I was just lazy to use it.

Is this the same for 701 supermoto?
@matus69sk5 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, 701 has slightly different setup, so I'd say it is not the same. Same is only the principle. However the tolerances and torques you will have to look for.
