This is Part 1 of the build process of a kilo-watt valve/tube HF Linear Amplifier.
IMPORTANT: Without proper safety procedures and protection, the High Voltages involved will cause Death or Serious Injury.
HT transformers are hard to find and expensive, so a modified microwave oven transformer will do.
(No, this not about spot-welding .....)
Cost is always an issue, so do not expect to see a 4CX1000A !
The aim is to use a GU-81M tube which is much cheaper and looks way sexier.

They sure can, if you decide to touch the high voltage ! Inside a metal, grounded box, the high voltage is safe enough to use in the kitchen ...

Interesting approach to transfer of knowledge ... but It might be much more understandable and comprehensable if you use * litle bit more structure , + schematics + whitedboard ... and less casual self-talk. Waiting for par 2.

Great video. Im building an amp based around 2x gu43b tubes. I have a 20kva (150kg) plate transformer with a few voltage options, 2850vdc or 3200v dc. Might start of low and work up. Im using F1FRV triode boards. Cheers GI0UTE.

Why go for 3kW ??? It will not make it easier for you. The PA0FRI design works fine for that tube. I used the UY5ZZ screen grid power regulator (simpler). 1x GU-43b will easily get you 1.5 kW output. Use the 2850V windings. Too much power = Same S59+40 for the Reciever, but a lot more Expensive for You - cables, connectors etc. 1500W vs 3000W = 0.25 S reading in your QSL - it is not worth the expense. Keep the other other GU-43b as a spare part. Good luck !

@@aga5897I agree with almost all you have said actually. I guess I just wanted to try and build something excessive, simply to see if I could. I don't plan on running 3kw on the air. I have a 1.5kw 24/7 rated bird dummy load that I will try and boil😂. I have settled on 7 16 din connectors for everything after the amplifier in my station(already in place)with some heavy coax Inc rg393 patch cables. Anyhow, keen to see how your build goes. Have you the tank circuit built yet? Also have you "re activated" the gu43b tube? Interested in if this was eventful? I have a number of gu43's and other than running the filament for 30 seconds each to check they heat up, mine are untested. All new old stock. Will be interesting to see how much power a MOT modified as yours is can support. Will it be ok for 1.5kw ssb, maybe. But not CW surely? Great use of parts many wouldn't consider using. 73's.

Thanks for asking ! No progress. I bought a whiteboard for the Calculations video, but the wife threw it out, due it it never even making it out of the packaging despite months and months of it sitting there, unused. Basically there are so few RF Tube Amp builders, it's hard to get excited about it anymore. I'll probably build a couple of 600W GU-34b amps one day but i use the 300W GI-6b/GI-7b/GS-9b mostly.
