Were you at all interested in playing Gab’s UB Control list? He was saying he didn’t really push for it, and only made an attempt at getting Logan to play it.

He started showing more interest in it late in Testing and at that point it was just too late to even think about switching Decks for me.

I'm so happy that a vampire list was successfull at an event! Vein Ripper is that big threat that sorin really needed, much better than Ghalta eating a random removal!

well this explains why i kept seeing the price of Vein Ripper go up and up and up on mtgo. i'm sure to people who play pioneer and/or explorer it was already obvious but now it makes sense to me, being someone that only plays standard (not cuz i love it so much but because wildcards).

Mengu just showcased a crazy Standard deck (68 cards, Sultai, 36 lands, and a ton of SNC common fetches) in his Decks of the Weekend video. I know he generally doesn't play Standard, but given that you sometimes do, I'd love to see you try out the deck!

Glad to see you uploading again, and 8-8 is good record, especially at a tournament as big and as competitive as the Pro Tour! Also this vampires list looks sick. I don't think I have the wildcards to craft it (8 Mythics is a bit too hefty a price) unfortunately, but I may proxy it up in paper to play against my friends.

I saw this deck a lot on ladder. People are loving it of course. Would be different if Control would have taken down the Pro Tour. I wonder how UW can adjust to the Metagame. What do you think? However, with this deck emerging Sacrifice is back on the menu for sure as well and I am always down for that.

Normally Arena auto passes priority for your own triggers. I wonder if that interferes with trying to kill a creature in response to Vein Ripper’s ward cost.

People are already adjusting I was running the Rakdos Vamps deck a lot yesterday to great success but today I am seeing a lot more Lilianas and Sheoldreds Edict to deal with Vein Ripper.

Yeah. It's going to be interesting to see if it can stay successful now that people will hate on the deck. I assume so, cause the cards surrounding the combo are just that good.

13:50 I don't understand why you didn't get your 1/1 token. Edit : Ok so the second line only trigger if you attack the player. Because the preacher has been send into a planeswalker you don't get your token.

While the team was working on the deck how much time was spent testing/considering a 3rd color? Even throwing blue or white into the mix I struggle to think of what the answer for Vein Ripper might be, but I wonder if eventually this'll morph into some form of Grixis/Esper Control with the combo as a finisher.

Adding a 3rd color is an idea I would not even consider in the slightest. The deck already has plenty of playables and Mutavault is a key card, that you would lose out on when going for a third color.

Isn’t better to call the walker with necromentia? Without the combo the walker is better alone

I'd argue the other way. Exploring of gaining life is better than Walker potentially exploring via a map token or cenote scout.

vein ripper is the fucking boss. hope next event goes better for you.arne. also I feel like u need to play your deck. I feel like you would have finished better with phoenix, since you have ton of reps on it. I remember watching you win the arena championship with rogues. and you just put on a masterclass with that deck because u knew it in and out. gl for Seattle.. ggs

Thank you! I actually didn't play more with Rogues than I did with Vampires in Testing. But I suppose Rogues is a deck that fits my playstyle more naturally. Main takeway for me was to put less pressure on myself. I couldn't focus because I wanted to win so badly that I got scared of losing. And playing with fear is not a good attribute. I was luckily able to change that mindset on Day2, but definitely cost me on Day1.
