Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoads, Terry Kath, Stevie Ray Vaughan all are gone now and they are each a part of me. They're why I learned to play guitar and become a musician, but Eddie is such a huge part of my long life from when I first heard him in '78 to teaching my son how to play and, like Eddie and his son, play on stage with the pure joy that it brings. I love & miss them all, but Eddie's influence is everywhere across my life. I've lost a brother and giant inspiration. Thanks J for sharing this experience with us

One of their greatest tunes. Yes, funky. That guitar riff. So unconventional and so incredible! That bass, man and those driving, dynamic drums. Dave Roth is insanely good at storytelling. People really don’t realize how loud the a music was! Kudos to the engineers who were able to capture that intense, ‘wall of sound’, that Eddie described they had to create as three musicians, plus a singer. Alex plays huge drums and cymbals. When Haggar joined, the loudness is more apparent of his equipment because the music became more ‘scaled’ down. Eddie played very loudly. He said it, himself. Alex needed big cymbals and drums. I guess he just kept it, as the years rolled on. Even when Alex brings things down, you can hear those instruments and their power. Ludwig drums and Paiste cymbals are very powerful!

One of their most underrated songs in my opinion. Typically a very fun, upbeat party band (esp during the David Lee Roth eta) but this album, and this track in particular, was darker and more serious. Not only does Eddie go off, but his brother Alex rips those drums apart. Diamond Dave's lyrics and vocals absolutely paint a picture almost like a movie. Great song to pick.

This is nearly my favorite Van Halen song and I can tell you really dug it. I really enjoyed hearing your personal relation to the lyrics.

This song has such a funk groove to it. Eddie's gtr intro to this song is classic. That man made the guitar sing like no other. One of Van Halen's best songs!

Thanks a TON for doing this awesome VH tribute, brother. Too cool. EVH and this band meant and means SO much to soooooo many folks. Their impact on rock 'n' roll and on people's lives (mine, for sure) cannot be overstated. Those early years were magical. Keep rockin', Jamal. I'm officially a new fan of yours!!!

What a pleasure it is to watch your authentic reactions to this music...this isn't the music you were raised on, I'm sure of that, but somehow you are so open minded and enlightened that you can find a place in your heart for new experiences ...rock on brother, you're amazing and you always make my day with your honest perspectives.

Thanks man! People get so stuck in a rut of music, because of a genre. When you open your eyes, ears to see and feel the music from different walks of lives, you truly experience life. Words are how we express, no matter the music. I have listened to many types, I am not into opera, but maybe someday. But every musician, either through an instrument or by your words and vocals, it all comes from the heart. RIP sell outs!!!
