"Jump" is a song by American rock band Van Halen. It was released in December 1983 as the lead single from their album 1984. It is Van Halen's most successful single, reaching number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.[1] The song differs from earlier Van Halen songs in that it is driven by a keyboard line, although the song does contain a guitar solo. David Lee Roth dedicated the song to martial artist Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, of whom he was a student.[2] In 2021, Rolling Stone ranked "Jump" at number 177 on their updated list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.[

We used to blast this from our car stereos when I was in high school. We pretty much grew up on Van Halen. The keys added a different sound to their music but the energy was always there. A few classic Van Halen songs to check out are "Dance the Night Away", "Everybody Wants Some!!", "Unchained", "Jamie's Cryin'" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love".

Van Halen’s first, and only #1 song. This band was huge when I was in high school. Unfortunately, this lineup broke up when I was finishing high school, so I never saw these original members together in concert. Saw other variations of the band live. Eddie Van Halen, the guitarist and keyboardist, is renowned as one of the the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock. He unfortunately passed away last year from cancer. Lead singer David Lee Roth was indeed very charismatic. He quit the band about a year after this video and had a fairly successful solo career. Great reaction! 🎸✨

Glad you like and thought it was 🔥 Those synths are sick! My brother rocked this when I was younger so that’s how I fell in love. My uncle bought us the concert/album tshirt “1984” and I remember wearing it for days! 😂 As others have said, Eddie Van Halen is crazy talented as you can see here.

It was waaaay back in January, at the dawn of one of the GREATEST years in music history: 1984!!! I looooved this song, even though it was very cold outside in Bavaria, Germany 😊, it made me warm up inside!!! This year will always stay in my mind as the greatest music year of this WONDERFUL decade with: Prince, Tina Turner, Banarama, WHAM, Bruce Springsteen, Corey Hart, The Cars, Phil Collins, Peabo Bryson, Van Halen, Hall & Oates, Cyndy Lauper and sooo many more - and also one very special new star just started to rise on the sky of music heaven in 1984 - MADONNA! With "Borderline", then "Lucky Star" she from the start instantly conquered me, and then maybe my favorite song of hers in September 1985 on vacation in Spain hearing it in the Disco, "Get into the Groove"! Back then I never wanted this decade to pass as I realized its greatness already back then, but unluckily although I vowed to myself at 14 or 15 in 1984, to not give this decade up without a fight (how silly😂), time of course turned out to be an unbeatable enemy :)

@@EmpressReacts ...another one of my BIG favorites in 1984: Dan Hartman with "I can dream about you", already the intro of the song is EPIC, listening to it then make me dream about a very special girl😄, please do a reaction to this if possible 😊😊
@Jamie0707

Sorry Empress, I realized I have to be a patreon to make suggestions. But another very hidden GEM from 1984 was Dan Hartman's: "Second Nature" - Dan Hartman was really a master of great intros with this song proving the rule. That video is also a display (just look at the 3 girls in the beginning of the video) how much more feminine and overall beautiful girls were back then, their hairdos, the way they dressed, the colors, the makeup, all so beautiful FEMININE and so very much innocent happiness and just simply enjoying being a girl!!! Today, compared to back then, you can hardy discern between men and women, women have become so dull, and unfeminine overall, with many having serious attitude problems...those were the good old days is all I can say, where it was Boy & Girl and happiness without any PC or 3rd wave feminism crap around. Today compared to then is almost like comparing mankind before and after the fall, I'm not kidding!

I grew up with Van Halen and they're still in my playlist. Great music, nothing comes close to this now. They worked they're asses off to make it to the big time but they always had fun. Everytime I hear this it takes me back to high school when VH was at their peak. Great times and awesome band. David Lee Roth was the ultimate showman and if you ever saw them in concert u would know without a doubt. I'm truly saddened by the death of EVH, he was a true genius. Eddie Van Halen changed things forever and he was truly one of the greatest if all time. I'm not just talking about his guitar solos although he was a master when it came to this. His rhythm guitar was amazing and is mostly overlooked because of his incredible blistering solos, but it's amazing nonetheless. He also had a damn good voice. Along with Michael Anthony, he sang those incredible background vocals VH is known for. He wrote music and he was able to weave his guitar playing into the music seamlessly. His guitar playing was amazing and it was the highlight, but it was part of the song, it felt like it and it was organic. Alot of bands had talented guitar players but they would pretty much showcase the players talent by doing a solo in the middle of songs whereas EVH was doing it throughout the song on every song. U could enjoy the song and at same time be amazed by his virtuosity. He played multiple instruments as u can see in this video. Another area where he greatly influenced the music world is with his innovation with the actual instruments. He is famous for his Frankenstein guitar, well it's called that because he took components from different guitars and built himself a prototype that would do what he wants and sound like he wanted. He did this with the amps too. He created his sound from the ground up. He experimented and he innovated in all areas. He had an intrinsic insight into music that u can't teach, it was in his DNA. As talented as he was, he wasn't great just because of that. Where most musicians would be content with raking in the money and just resting on their talent, he was a tireless worker and he was always studying, working and perfecting his skills. When you have that combination you create greatness and that's what he was all about. RIP EVH, the best! You are missed, but your music is with us forever!

This was the soundtrack of my childhood, growing up in the 80s. David Lee Roth on vocals, Michael Anthony on bass and background vocals, Alex Van Halen on drums, and his brother Eddie Van Halen, guitar and synthesizer. EVH is considered one of the greatest virtuosic musicians in music history, he and Alex were classically trained musicians as children. Sadly, he's been gone from us for a year, having lost his battle with throat cancer last October. He musical legacy lives on.

Michael Jackson totally went after “Eddie Van Halen” for his song “Beat It” in 1984. When you listen to the guitar solo in Michael’s song “Beat It” you instantly KNOW that it was Eddie Van Halen who invented and inspired the solo in that song. OMG, well done.👏

Eddie Van Halen (guitars, keyboards, songwriter), had to fight both the rest of the band and the producer for them to accept a synth-driven song like this. Of course it became their first true monster hit and brought them a mainstream audience for the first time. I’m especially fond of the beautiful solo section, and that guitar solo is one of my all time favorites - so musical and colorful, apart from the sheer acrobatics of it. And the synth sound is so iconic it's usually just called "Jump" in the synthesizers that have it.

The album this song was on was the last one to feature David Lee Roth as lead singer. Sammy Hagar would take over for the next couple of albums. However, he would rejoin the band for a reunion tour years later. The tour also featured Eddie's son Wolf taking over on bass guitar.

Both Eddie and Alex took piano lessons from a very early age. Eddie couldn't read music, but fooled his teacher (concert pianist Stanley Kalvaitis) into thinking he could. He could watch and listen to a piece being played, memorize the movements, then play it himself, if not perfectly, with enough improvisation to be convincing. Eventually, he got busted because the teacher wanted to play a piece while sight-reading the sheet music, having Eddie turn the pages for him, and Eddie had to admit that he had no idea when to turn the pages. Eddie also started out wanting to play drums, and he got a set of drums. Alex got a guitar, but also played Eddie's drums, and turned out to be better on them. so Eddie took the guitar to see what he could do with it instead. The rest is rock history! :D

I had a huge crush on lead singer David Lee Roth. This is a fire bop for sure. This album, 1984, spawned a few more hits. You're a classic sitcom fan; Eddie Van Halen was married to Valerie Bertinelli from One Day at a Time and Hot in Cleveland.

Jump is an anomaly in the VH catalog. Their biggest mainstream hit, but definitely outside of their typical sound. Van Halen is known more for being guitar oriented, rather than synth, but this was the 80s after all and Eddie was not only a guitar God, but he also was a classically trained pianist. The band as a unit are tight and just simply bad ass. Later on, their sound changed a bit when they replaced this vocalist (David Lee Roth) with Sammy Hagar. Those are known as the Van Hagar days. Same great band, but different. I think if you aren't familiar with Van Halen the first thing you should check out is the Eruption guitar solo. Live without a net version. Yes, it's 13 minutes long, but believe me..you need a proper introduction into why Eddie is considered a legend.
