Always have a couple of threads protruding out of the end of the nutsert/rivet nut, because when you squeeze to pull up the nutsert/riv nut you have less chance of stripping the thread. I'm a sheet metalworker been using nutserts for 35 years and have learnt by my mistakes as nothing worse than either drilling out a nutsert or stripping the mandrel and getting it stuck in the nutsert.

The ceiling panels are able to stay up with only bolts through the rivnuts? Would a lock washer make sense? Vibrations after some time did the ceiling panels loosen?
@FrugalFactor
@FrugalFactor 6 сағат бұрын
After several years all is well, I have not needed to tighten any panels. Lock washers sound like a good idea. I wrapped the wall panels in Duramax tweed material and used a regular washer, so the material would not twist or deform as seen in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/opecbJxendutpKc.html also all the videos divided by category can be seen at thefrugalfactor.com/

Caution when using a rivet nut tool, DO NOT OVER SQUEEZE THE TOOL you can strip the threads of the rivnut. ESPECIALLY ALUMINUM versions.

Do NOT use aluminum riv-nuts. The galvanic action between the aluminum and steel parts can lead to severe corrosion.

The hex ones are not designed for round holes
@FrugalFactor
@FrugalFactor 5 күн бұрын
Correct. I used the M8 hexagon riv-nuts for existing holes in the van.

@@FrugalFactor I noticed you mentioning that later in your video. I have a Sprinter. No hex holes. It is nice that they do that. Wish Sprinters had that.

Don't you have issues with the nuts threading and ceasing when you tighten the rivnut too much?

What size rivnut did you use for the wall panels? 5/16 or 1/4?
@FrugalFactor
@FrugalFactor 2 жыл бұрын
1/4"-20 on 90% of the van build including the wall panels. Best to use just a few sizes for the build, it makes things much easier!

instead of using rivnut's, can I just use a rivet to hold up the wall panels? I'm new to all of this >
@FrugalFactor
@FrugalFactor Жыл бұрын
A RivNut is installed like a rivet, but provides installs a thread like a nut. This allows easy installation and removal of the wall panel. If you used a standard rivet, you would need to drill it out to remove the wall panel. Why would you want to remove a wall panel? So, that you can inspect for mold and moisture, to run new wiring, if body work needs to done or to recover the wall panels.

@@FrugalFactor I am making a mobile showroom/office for cabinetry company. I see some people install steel “bracing” on the ceiling and the walls.. is this really needed?
@FrugalFactor
@FrugalFactor Жыл бұрын
@@michaelglaser1669 I don't think that is needed. I used rivnuts into the steel frame/ribs. You could also use plus nuts for extra strength. I designed the cabinets so their frames aligned next to the ribs, so I could use rivnuts and place bolts into the side of the metal ribs. I can hang off the cabinet frame. Much stronger than I will ever need.
