Aimee and I once spent an entire summer living out of our van, gallivanting around the western United States soaking in every bit of its wondrous beauty. But where would they go from there? How could we follow up an experience like that? We found ourselves often bemoaning the fact that “we don’t live near anything that awesome” back in Massachusetts. But the truth is that's a load of BS, and the opportunities for adventure in this country are only as limited as your imagination. After several hundred hours scouring every nook and cranny of the available literature, and many long, good, talks on the phone with soon-to-be new friends, we had an itinerary. Don't expect to see any geotags of these rivers on Instagram, the folks up there keep it pretty close to the chest, but if you make the effort and earn your stripes, I guarantee you’ll be put on a 3+ pound, wild Maine squaretail in no time. The only question is; how the hell are we going to top that?

Wonderful film. I've lived in Maine for half my life (the best half) and we raised our kids here. They fell in love along with us with the forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, and the rocky coast, and even when grown, they never left. It's the last best place, and if I never venture beyond its borders in all my remaining years I will simply be happy.

I am from Boston originally and have fished in places like that as a kid back in the 70s. I have since then travelled to a lot of other states and countries to fish, all on the fly. I was also a western fly fishing guide for 14yrs. I never once forgot where it all began for me, as a guide I was asked almost on every trip..."when did you start fly fishing?" I told them way back in 1977 when I was only 7yrs old. This video brought me to a feeling of nostalgia being a kid and forgetting about the rest of the while I was fly fishing. I always tried to have my clients forget about everything except for where and what they were doing while being in the river. I wish video didn't end... I could keep watching this and feeling this way because of the video for an eternity. Great job done. A captivating movie.

As a highschooler from a town just south of Boston I can tell you that this is pretty inspiring. I have a real passion for fishing and spend a lot of time biking to ponds near me and searching for trout in small streams. I have recently picked up fly fishing and hope to spend a lot of my life doing it. I hope to find somewhere good to catch my first trout on the fly but I just seem to not be able to find a good spot, just bass for now. I have always wanted to catch a Maine river brook trout. Just a matter of time until I get my license and then I will hopefully travel all over NE chasing fish

Man i'm just seeing this for the 1st time and this honestly made me cry. I fished for brook trout on a fly rod with my dad for the better part of 20 years in New Hampshire. He passed away 2 years ago and this video just brought every memory i've ever had with him fly fishing. I honestly can't believe this was made in 2017. The video quality is absolutely out of this world. No one has ever created a more incredible brook trout film. This was an absolute masterpiece. My computer is way too old to look this insanely clear lol. Again MASTERPIECE

Attleboro native here. I’m so glad the opening scene portrayed some of the backroads of North Attleboro and Cumberland. What a beautiful area. It brought me back to my childhood days of fishing and exploring the Manchester Reservoir. That was my little world then. Aimee, can you talk sense into my lovely wife and tell her what she is missing?!? We plan great adventures and fishing trips. Colorado, S. Dakota, Norway, Yellowstone, Idaho, Alaska.....She’ll watch me on the side of the river but doesn’t want to touch the fish. What’s your secret? Haha. Oh well. Thanks for what you do. We’re lucky to be able to tag along with you two on these excellent adventures.

Woooah, really cool to hear from you. We never thought any locals would recognize that stretch of road and call us out on it actually being RI haha. Its so close to our house though that it feels like N. Attleboro. You know, I'm sure you'd love to see your wife catching fish along side you, but in my experience you're lucky to have someone who wants to go on adventures and spend time outside like that, be it knee deep in the river, or sitting on the bank. Sounds like you guys have had some incredible adventures. You're both really fortunate to have each other ;)

Nicely done. Beautiful scenery. Love seeing the lions that are so amazing as well. Remember to always catch and release. Keep those fish in the water and remember if your going to take photos consider holding your breath and remember those fish can’t breath when out of the water...🎣
@TightLoops
@TightLoops 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! All these rivers have strict regulations. Catch and release only, barbless hooks, no bait. We deliberately shoot all of our "hero shots" of fish with a high speed camera that shoots 240 frames per second, which is 10 times slower than real life, turning 3 seconds into 30. Any shots you see of a fish out of water here took place over 1 or 2 seconds.

I live in Massachusetts too (Northampton) and I too am a lover of small streams. I've found some beautiful places and after watching your video I literally am about to jump out my window and grab my gear and run off to film them. This was by far the best trout video on KZfaq and I aspire to make anything remnant of this masterpiece. Keep it up!!!!!

As a resident of Maine, I never want to leave this state just from the great brook trout fishing we have here. It is sad to see it decline in a lot of places from invasive species and etc. But there are so many opportunities for big brookies all across the state. Last year I saw a photo of a guy who caught a 26 inch brookie in the Moosehead region, if you go to the Maine guide fly shop in Greenville and ask they might have a photo you can see. Every year I fly fish remote ponds in the Moosehead and Baxter State park region. If you guys come back to Maine I highly recommend getting a float tube and fishing some of our remote ponds we have here, truly a national treasure. You might have to do a bit of bushwhacking and hiking but trust me it’s worth it. And it’s even better if you hit the hex/green drake hatch. Those May flys that hit the water are bigger than your whole thumb. It’s an amazing experience, and if you hit it at the right time you’ll get tired of catching brookies. Also your video deserves a lot more credit, really well done, and awesome fish 👍🏻

Thanks, Colby! Its definitely been a dream to explore the remote ponds. We fished the Moosehead region this past fall and timed it wrong (one week crazy heat wave shut the rivers down. It was 85 degrees in late September). Beautiful though, can't wait to try again this year.

I sat at my fly tying desk whilst I watched this tying some small midge patterns ready for the spring melt. The wind outside was so strong it meant the snow wasn't falling but moving horizontally, apparently never touching the ground. The melt still feels a long way off here in northern Sweden but this film really whisked me away to a different time of the year. Thanks for putting so much of your time into this production. I feel like I shouldn't have watched this for free! I look forward to watching more of your work! Cheers!

Thanks Dean! Its been a month since you wrote that, so the melt is getting closer now ;) Glad you liked the film. We are super jealous of your Nothern summers, even if they are short. Fishing in Sweden is a bucket list for sure!

I’m from Maine, and appreciate the time you took to produce this film!! I’m fortunate enough to have caught 1000’s of BT over the years. Unfortunately most of my childhood trout streams have stopped producing these beauties!!! For several reasons unfortunately. Thankfully we have some rivers, lakes and ponds that hold solid numbers!! I dread the day where don’t have this resource anymore!!

Thanks! Yeah, it's the unfortunate truth for Brook Trout habitat everywhere in the eastern US. Maine is the last true stronghold though, so imagine how bad it is elsewhere. I dread that day too, but it might be inevitable. Not just for brookies, but all cold water species. The planet's getting hotter, and our delicate fresh water ecosystems are going to get hit first, and hardest.

I'm pretty excited to see how your videos can get better with time! Your videos toy with perfection. When people ask why I fly fish, I am going to show them your videos. This is the closest I have ever seen of images and music depicting the emotions and feelings I have when fishing. Awesome job!

Loved the video - really liked the story, the off-the-river stuff and of course the fishing scenes. I fished the Rapid 25 years ago - paddling in from the Magalloway, across Umbagog and to a rustic camp site with a girlfriend and it was a very special memory I will have forever. Well done!

Thanks PJ! Sounds like an awesome trip. Would have killed to have fished The Rapid back then! Or even better, 100 years ago. They say that 8-10 pounders were common.
