Hey :) I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. After 14 months of SUV living - I bought the van I now call home. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world, while also having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Maybe one day I'll see you out on that open road 🚐

You do realize what you do with these magnificent videos, right? Well in case you don't, it makes this 67yr old married woman rethink what she's doing with this part of her life. You will never get to my age and think you missed out on this life you have. Maybe some other life, but not this one. Thank you for letting me escape for a few minutes and just imagine.

Living vicarously through your experiences. Loving the choice of background score, story, and beautiful scenary. This is probably the one channel where even the rustling of leaves, chirping of birds, bedsheets, wind blowing on the microphone feels so close to my heart that I instinctively increase the volume of my headphones and just stop whatever else I am doing.

I wanted to say THANK YOU. About a year ago, I was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease that is stopped me from getting out into the mountains, being born and raised in them. …They all my life. There is something about the way you put your videos together that makes me feel as though I’m there. It helps! You have a gift and it feels as though you have given it to me. Occasionally... very occasionally, you come across somebody that was obviously born to do exactly what they're doing. Christian is one of these people. Insightful, wildly creative, intuitive and just so CRAZY damn talented that just by accompaning her on her sojourn on my little 3" screen quite often brings tears to the eyes and an intense longing to find the same oneness and bespoke purpose in one's own life that she demonstrates with every video. What a great episode. It always amazes me, when people are mindful of the fact that they are changing, realizing a sort of paradigm shift in their habits, wants and needs. I'm working on recognizing these moments myself, but I have still ways to go. 1% better than yesterday has to be good enough, I guess.

This is one of your best videos. I so very much can understand what you are doing. 51 years ago, I stood on the step of an airplane at 2800 feet. Now 3,800 jumps later, I've done so much and changed. I've taken hundreds of people on their first Tandem jumps and been on many skydiving records. Still jumping. Keep it up Christian - you are seeing the world that many people can't see, but it is all around them.

Hi Christian . I absolutely can not get enough of you videotography and of course you. I am 67 and this piece of artwork brought tears to my eyes as my thoughs were " please God let me see this beauty soon " as I will be starting my 68th chapter in April of 2024 starting in Southern Alabama and journeying to Montana to fish for Trout . You bring nature to life and have improved my life and so many others lives . Be safe as you bring much joy to the World. Peace. Oh and another thing .... It would be nice if you shared your recipes . Your eats look very tasty .

I remember when I lived in North Ogden and every day I would see the mountains and think, "man that's so beautiful". Glad to know I'm not the only one who just never gets bored of looking at big rocks. On another note,, that first moon shot about 10 minutes in...wow

The photography/music in your work reminds me of The Tao Te Ching. Nature is so inspiring, the stillness, the fog has a spiritual quality to it. To place yourself in nature while pondering life’s possibilities is quite the gift.

Happy for you. We have left the wilderness behind after 6 years to organize in the city. We fine out everyday eating amazing foods in Florida and taking care of our medical needs. Planning our huge house next year in the wilderness for much more comfort. Nice to have both options. To stop the mice from coming in you need to block the fresh air vent. Remove the plastic grill where windshield wiper motor is housed. On the passenger side there is a vent hole that goes to your AC fan housing, then to your AC vents. Use 1/4 wire mesh from a hardware store and jam it in the opening leaving no small hole.

Exactly! With mice, you have to stop them from getting into your van in the first place. This is key. Plug up the holes!

Ah - your pink pastel clouds at 2:18 - if you don't find them then they find you. ❤Moody scenes at the beginning reminds me of your fall scenes in off-season Yosemite a few posts back. I so needed this, Christian! Talking about your fears and the future. I have been delayed by 2 years getting on the road and the fears have mounted at times. Recently I decided to not let those fears stop me. Your incredible photography and honest conversation inspire me to go after my dream! At age 70 I have some limitations…but I would have those anyway….right? Thank you, as always, for inspiring and peace-producing content…especially with all the turmoil in the world. Where else would we rather be but in nature and all it’s continual re-creation!

hello, Thank you for all the wonderful posts. I am housebound do to disability from to many years of hard work. When I was younger, late sixties to early 70s, I traveled througout the US. Although over the years I did vagabond when I could it entailed your type lifestyle. Now I have a hard time getting around so KZfaq is my window to the world. When I came across your site I was brought back to those wonderful days of prancing through all the wonderful parks the US has to offer and it filled my soul with cheer.
