DO buy this fantastic CD. DON'T play it in the car. The music enters your bloodstream making it difficult to concentrate on the road. At times you get weak in the knees, making it harder to hit the brake. Listen at home, in the dark with a few candles burning. Then swoon with pleasure.

Funny you mention Neil Young who has just made a statement that he wants to see information about medical freedom censored. Van on the other hand is one of the few great musicians of my generation (along with Clapton) who is speaking out for freedom. This scamdemic has really shown me a lot about where people stand.
@mtease92472 жыл бұрын
@@JeffSchreiber99 We all have the right to individual opinion. What I liked about Neil Young’s stance is he stood up for what he believes is truth. And now he is also being rewarded monetarily for it. And I say good for Mr Young !!! I’ve loved Van’s music my whole life & always will. I also tend to disagree with his Covid stance. But I would fight to the death for his right to express his views. Long live freedom of speech & Van Morrison !!!! 🍀👏👍✌️🌅💕

First time i ever heard Astral Weeks was in 1969. A guy who claimed to be the heir of the throne of Prussia or Russia (i forget) told me to lay down and listen to God's music. We had already dropped a bunch of acid, but hell, for God's music, we did more. Now, in my 60's, i still think of this as God's Music. I've never heard a better album than Astral Weeks. I would have given a limb to have been at this concert.
@ahjaanhugh9 жыл бұрын
Hey Dennis ditto for me. September 1969 on 9 upper in the Saugeen - Maitland residence of UWO. I have since purchased every commercial release by The Man. No acid but we were smoking weed at the time. I have seen him three times when he played Toronto.

That's a nice story. Two days ago I took an 8th of mushrooms and listened to the Astral Weeks album in its entirety while sitting at the lakeside in the park in this neighborhood. I don't think I have ever experienced a more beautiful day. It's like he pulled this music directly out of the world's natural beauty in the most concrete and perceptible way. Dylan's music comes from somewhere within his person, but Morrison's music seems to come from the heaven that is a sunny day.

I totally missed this album during when it came out. Knew of it, but wasn't open enough to recognize his sheer brilliance. Rediscovered an in '90, thankfully, by then I was ready. My brother sent me the Enlightenment CD which I at first didn't like but put it on one day at work, got busy and couldn't change the music. Four hours later it'd played through several times and became a sound track for me I could not ignore. From there I consumed every Van album out there (CDs by then), bought them, got lost in them. And in '09 my wife and I flew to NYC to see this concert performed live and Astral Weeks in its entirety. Not a bad seat in the house. I could read the drum set insignias from our seats (and they weren't the $$ ones either). Felt like I was born again, totally reborn into a moment on high, venturing that slip stream, way up in the heavens, transcending breathing in and breathing out Caledonia with all the saints and sages . . .

Think I read somewhere (in VM video comments) that this is "celtic violin" style.. No nothing about it, but it's in a lot of his music. To hear much of violin/string licks (in a GREAT song) listen to Tir Na Nog.. never knew he did anything like that - think is about a mythical Irish place of peace.. can see images by artists of it on inet.
