When I was 19 I first heard the album "Astral Weeks"... I was alone in a beautiful house built around 1910, the lights were out, a window was open as I sat and watched the warm rain pour down... the music, the voice, the words took me away to somewhere far from where I sat. At 65, it still does the same thing for me... I wander... somewhere... each time I hear this music play...

I first heard Van Morrison in 1964. He was with a group called THEM. The song was called Here comes the night. It was the first song I heard that I listened to other than The Beatles. That's how good I thought Van was. I just knew both The Beatles and Van would last through my lifetime.

I just turned 60. When I heard Van for the first time I thought: UPS, what kind of sound is that and at first I didn't get much with it. (I'm from Hamburg in Germany and wasn't very familiar with the English language at the time). But I kept hearing more and more about Van, and that's when I realized what the main characteristic of good music is: It's not the type of music (classical, pop, rock, jazz, etc.), but the fact that it' gets better and better the more you hear it. And there are very few artists where that is true. Van Morrison is one of them, which is probably due to the fact that he constantly varies his songs during live performances. I can only describe his music as magical or hypnotic, it crawls into your head and makes you addicted. Sorry if that was too thick, but that's how I feel.

I remember lying in bed listening to the radio late at night as a teenager and hearing this for the first time. There is something romantic about hearing great music for the first time like that - on a radio, chosen by someone else in a quiet moment. I did not understand it (still don't) but the beautiful playing over a simple chord sequence, Van's incredible singing and the mysterious and beautiful lyrics made it unforgettable. " Madame George " Shrouded in secrecy, wearing a veiled periwinkle feather fascinator, she wore a violet satin gown, a lavendar mohair shawl draping her ivory shoulders, pastel pink chantilly lace gloves adorned her lily white hands, purple peau de soie kitten heeled pumps framed her dainty feet, and she held a matching parasol shading her head from the afternoon sun. A Celtic vision of loveliness for a lad to serenade, his true love smiling to delight as her silken auburn hair flew wildly in the highland wind. A double rainbow of love peeked out from the clouds as she vanished into the horizon.Truly a cherished masterpiece of "Astral Weeks".Thank you Mr. Van Morrison !

I was at this concert...It was great... It was also fantabulous! I have seen Van six times..all here in Los Angeles. I saw them all with my oldest brother who is 13 years older than me who pretty much introduced me to Van's music. I was not even a teenager and he used to play Van's music on his hi-fi, sitting on the floor in our garage, and I remember saying once, "Ughh, how can you listen to that terrible music", but as I grew older Van became my favorite too and I grew to love his music the best. My brother and I have gone to all the concerts here together that we could. He is 76 now. We missed the last one here but hopefully, there will be another. I have too many favorites to name but "Fair Play" might be my most favorite.

👍 I’m 70ish now and grew up w/ Van’s music 50 + yrs ago, but never really listened to him as much as I did other artists. It’s only been recently that I’ve ‘rediscovered’ and appreciate his style of music much more now than back then! It’s ironic how certain musicians appeal to me as I’ve aged along with them. I think one of the reasons is that I now pay closer attention to the lyrics vs just ‘hearing’ the overall sound. 🤔 IDK why there aren’t more comments on this from 2008 video - imo it’s very nice!

Down on Cyprus Avenue With a childlike vision leaping into view Clicking, clacking of the high heeled shoe Ford and Fitzroy, Madame George Marching with the soldier boy behind He's much older with hat on drinking wine And that smell of sweet perfume comes drifting through The cool night air like Shalimar And outside they're making all the stops The kids out in the street collecting bottle-tops Gone for cigarettes and matches in the shops Happy taken Madame George That's when you fall Whoa, that's when you fall Yeah, that's when you fall When you fall into a trance A sitting on a sofa playing games of chance With your folded arms and history books you glance Into the eyes of Madame George And you think you found the bag You're getting weaker and your knees begin to sag In the corner playing dominoes in drag The one and only Madame George And then from outside the frosty window raps She jumps up and says Lord have mercy I think it's the cops And immediately drops everything she gots Down into the street below And you know you gotta go On that train from Dublin up to Sandy Row Throwing pennies at the bridges down below And the rain, hail, sleet, and snow Say goodbye to Madame George Dry your eye for Madame George Wonder why for Madame George And as you leave, the room is filled with music, laughing, music, dancing, music all around the room And all the little boys come around, walking away from it all So cold And as you're about to leave She jumps up and says Hey love, you forgot your gloves And the gloves to love to love the gloves... To say goodbye to Madame George Dry your eye for Madame George Wonder why for Madame George Dry your eyes for Madame George Say goodbye in the wind and the rain on the back street In the backstreet, in the back street Say goodbye to Madame George In the backstreet, in the back street, in the back street Down home, down home in the back street Gotta go Say goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Dry your eye your eye your eye your eye your eye... Say goodbye to Madame George And the loves to love to love the love Say goodbye Oooooo Mmmmmmm Say goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye to Madame George Dry your eye for Madame George Wonder why for Madame George The love's to love the love's to love the love's to love... Say goodbye, goodbye Get on the train Get on the train, the train, the train... This is the train, this is the train... Whoa, say goodbye, goodbye... Get on the train, get on the train...

Too bad it is so short. Seriously, as far as I’m concerned he could go on for another hour or so. No complaints.

He is my Godfather of soul, rhythm and Blues, and ballads that pull at the heart. Not just the strings, but my whole damned body, heart and soul.

Unlike McCartney, his voice has really held up. Loved him as a teenager; love him now.

Yeah. I've been listening to Van since the 60's, I'm 75 now and the older I get, the better Van gets. I'm not religious, but Van Morrison, like Carlos Santana, has been a blessing in my life .

I saw him once. The entire band looked as if they were tuning up.Van the MA N STROLLS out, straps on a Beautiful hollow body electric. 2 minutes later. ,Even the AIR was transformed! 🎶🎹😃🎸🎻🎷 the. Mighty horns. Holy Crap. The only other man I can think of that can reach that plateau is LEON RUSSEL.💝🎈ENJOY Y'ALL!

I love this version! Reminds me of Richard who I'm sorry to say passed away in Nov 2010 and one of my dearest friends. RIP my true friend who called me everyday or visited me after my husband John passed in 2007.

I keep coming back to Van. This album in particular. It puts you in a peaceful place. If you have never seen him live you should put it on your bucket list.

An absolute magician, so many great songs/ballads, he's incredibly special. This is the first song that hooked me into Van, and so many years later it has the same appeal. Outstanding isn't the right accolade.
