I’m 81 & still love it!

When I was 19 I first heard the album "Astral Weeks"... I was alone in a beautiful house built around 1910, the lights were out, a window was open as I sat and watched the warm rain pour down... the music, the voice, the words took me away to somewhere far from where I sat. At 65, it still does the same thing for me... I wander... somewhere... each time I hear this music play...

I am 70 and have loved Van the Man Morrison for well over 50 years ever since he recorded his very first album

I first heard Van Morrison in 1964. He was with a group called THEM. The song was called Here comes the night. It was the first song I heard that I listened to other than The Beatles. That's how good I thought Van was. I just knew both The Beatles and Van would last through my lifetime.

Astral Weeks is a masterpiece, it means more than I can say and is now at 72 etched deep in my dna. Thanks Van!

Getting old is tough. It is so pleasant having great music while doing so.

I just turned 60. When I heard Van for the first time I thought: UPS, what kind of sound is that and at first I didn't get much with it. (I'm from Hamburg in Germany and wasn't very familiar with the English language at the time). But I kept hearing more and more about Van, and that's when I realized what the main characteristic of good music is: It's not the type of music (classical, pop, rock, jazz, etc.), but the fact that it' gets better and better the more you hear it. And there are very few artists where that is true. Van Morrison is one of them, which is probably due to the fact that he constantly varies his songs during live performances. I can only describe his music as magical or hypnotic, it crawls into your head and makes you addicted. Sorry if that was too thick, but that's how I feel.

My brother in law Chris Hoogland, may he rest in peace, introduced me to Van when I was 22 years old. Now I am 62 and still love Van the Man

I have seen him twice. One of the highlights of my life ! At 72 yrs ive had a few highlights and there is just no one like him. Glad hes been in my life, all these years !

i was on a beach, beautiful day, nobody about, smoking a joint and i put this on - spent the rest of the afternoon just looking at the blue sky above me. wonderful!

NOW that is EXCELLENT sound . . . and an EXCELLENT voice . . . aging EXCELLENTLY well !! Aren't we lucky?!?!?

My Dad grew up in Sandy Row in Belfast, really pulls at the heart strings every time I listen to this masterpiece. Still, every now and again I’ll walk down Cypress Avenue in east Belfast with my headphones on listening to Cypress Avenue. It’s pretty magical to do so, hasn’t changed that much since Van penned this magical album.

Listening to Van is like having your mind and heart opened, the cobwebs blown out and you’re left with nothing other than appreciation…..magical 🙏

Van's voice.... IS one of the greatest saxophone players ever

Astral Weeks is the most amazing album ever and I have been listening to it for over 50 years and I never get tired of listening to it. And to think it was recorded on just two takes but with outstanding musicians like bassist Richard Davis. For anyone interested there is a lot of interesting Information on Wikipedia about all this.

I remember lying in bed listening to the radio late at night as a teenager and hearing this for the first time. There is something romantic about hearing great music for the first time like that - on a radio, chosen by someone else in a quiet moment. I did not understand it (still don't) but the beautiful playing over a simple chord sequence, Van's incredible singing and the mysterious and beautiful lyrics made it unforgettable. As others have said, an absolute masterpiece.

This man has created the best music I have heard in my long life. I was only 19 the first time I heard this album - I played it over and over all night and memorized every word and sound. It still holds up.

What I find most amazing is how can someone 23 years old compose masterpieces like this?

Like so many others Van has been an inspiration for most of my life. A girlfriends brother had Astral Weeks and we played it and played it. I am now 65 but many thanks to Jill's brother, who I think was Stuart. Much respect.

November 1972... alone, window open with a storm going on outside. Slightly altered in mind and emotions, I listened for the first time. The music made its way directly to my heart and has never left... Astral Weeks album, Madame George in particular, feel like a long time friend who I am able to get comfortable with and just let the music take me where it will... paint pictures, evoke feelings, memories and new experiences as well... rapturous!

I was born and reared on The Falls Road, but before The War Started in 1969 I used to love going over to Sandy Row Dreaming looking in the fab shops, and of course, there was the wee sweet shop where you could get Clove Rock, Yellow Man and HoneyComb, etc. Loved It.

" Madame George " Shrouded in secrecy, wearing a veiled periwinkle feather fascinator, she wore a violet satin gown, a lavendar mohair shawl draping her ivory shoulders, pastel pink chantilly lace gloves adorned her lily white hands, purple peau de soie kitten heeled pumps framed her dainty feet, and she held a matching parasol shading her head from the afternoon sun. A Celtic vision of loveliness for a lad to serenade, his true love smiling to delight as her silken auburn hair flew wildly in the highland wind. A double rainbow of love peeked out from the clouds as she vanished into the horizon.Truly a cherished masterpiece of "Astral Weeks".Thank you Mr. Van Morrison !

I was at this concert...It was great... It was also fantabulous! I have seen Van six times..all here in Los Angeles. I saw them all with my oldest brother who is 13 years older than me who pretty much introduced me to Van's music. I was not even a teenager and he used to play Van's music on his hi-fi, sitting on the floor in our garage, and I remember saying once, "Ughh, how can you listen to that terrible music", but as I grew older Van became my favorite too and I grew to love his music the best. My brother and I have gone to all the concerts here together that we could. He is 76 now. We missed the last one here but hopefully, there will be another. I have too many favorites to name but "Fair Play" might be my most favorite.

Van is definitely ' THE MAN ' .....Belfast Northern Ireland might have given us some dark times but it gave us Van Morrison to shine in our hearts and souls like a musical Sun. Rave on Mr. Ivan Morrison and those incredible musicians behind you.

👍 I’m 70ish now and grew up w/ Van’s music 50 + yrs ago, but never really listened to him as much as I did other artists. It’s only been recently that I’ve ‘rediscovered’ and appreciate his style of music much more now than back then! It’s ironic how certain musicians appeal to me as I’ve aged along with them. I think one of the reasons is that I now pay closer attention to the lyrics vs just ‘hearing’ the overall sound. 🤔 IDK why there aren’t more comments on this from 2008 video - imo it’s very nice!

Amazing to me that he wrote this when in his early 20s. It's still an incredible song over 50 years later.

I liked Van when I was younger but as I got older I started to hear him in an altogether different way and that continues to deepen. He is a musical genius which is in evidence in this version of Madame George. This coupled with the fact that I grew up in Belfast and now live in the US, he walks me round my home town and country. I used to walk past Cyprus Avenue each day on the way to School. Keep on singing Van.

So laid back and relaxed. What ever noise he makes, it harmonies. He doesn't just perform he is it. A mystical, melancholic and inspiring spirit. Love him. Van the man.

The first 500 times I heard this song I was sure he was singing Madame Joy.

Sister joyce left home for boston and when she came home that 1st summer she brought back Astral. Jackie Lomax too. I was a young veteran of the best transformational rock that no one could have ever imagined. I never stopped listening to Astral Weeks. I always feel with all his great albums this was the best. This Hollywood Bowl concert proves that and quite possibly the best of all time

Morrison's genius power is also built into his talent to find the right gifted musicians around him - I mean listen, detect, analyze all these sweet jamming, swinging melodies and rythms blending in.

When I'm in East Belfast I hear Van Morrison in my head. The city is the people and to me he is the sound and the face.

Base, violin, sax, flute, voice, lyrics. Majestic. This is honestly one of the best live performances of any song I have ever seen. VAN THE MAN!

I've always been a fan, always, and yet after an absence of Van, I'm always blown away again and again by the depth and breadth of his timeless talent. Makes me proud to be Irish.

Ain't it amazing how Van's performances of every song just sow a mood, a feeling that you can just get lost into. And he seems to get lost into it as well--it's not that his voice is so amazing, it's that the emotions he communicates seem so real, so honest, so spontaneous, so improvised, you just can't help but fall into the mood with him.

I love this version! Reminds me of Richard who I'm sorry to say passed away in Nov 2010 and one of my dearest friends. RIP my true friend who called me everyday or visited me after my husband John passed in 2007.

Watching van morrison sing in live, really makes me high.

I keep coming back to Van. This album in particular. It puts you in a peaceful place. If you have never seen him live you should put it on your bucket list.
