Come on a full tour of our 2012 T5.1 VW California camper van in 2022.
We've owned it over 3 years so thought it's about time we let you have a look round and hear our review.
This allows you you to see all the VW factory features within the camper design and the extra accessories we've since added, to make our lives easier when travelling and camping.

We have the same Van 🚐 and I have to say it doesn’t matter if it’s T4,T5, T6 or the later version. It’s a VW Camper and it’s brilliant Van 🚐🤙🏽

They really are the Swiss Army knife of vans, nothing is overlooked in a Cali'. The double seat/bed is so versatile, the way it slides forward. That's a great example of a Cali' too. Ruth often says, when she's looking at other van tours, 'look how messy those cupboards are, it makes me hectic in my head!!' I'm glad to say, she loves your order and tidiness. Incidentally, I notice the old school beef and tomato Pot Noodle. I actually took a 30 year break from them but, recently discovered the peri peri flavour. It has renewed my interest. Anyway, I'M waffling now so I'll leave you and get off to work but, great vlog once again.

😂😂 the cupboards are normally a little more messy than that but we’d just cleaned them out. It’s weird, we hardly ever eat pot noodles but always have one just incase. But that one, every 6 months or so tastes really good 😁

Cheers Sue! The upper bed is our safe place… until you’re busting for a wee first thing in the morning and you become an Olympic gymnast before being able to empty your bladder 😂😂

We had the same issue using our wardrobe, but now we use it to store our duvet and pillows. Makes it easy when using the downstairs bed to pack away in the morning. Also keep a wee hoover etc at the bottom.

Virtually identical to our van so great to see how you use the space slightly differently. In the wardrobe, we store a double duvet (rolled up and fastened with an old belt, along with a double sleeping bag which is also rolled up and squeezed back into its bag., and there is still more room. We gave up trying to find a clever use for it, and just use it for that! We have the exact same stereo, and exactly the same thing happens to us! I read some where it is better if you use the original Apple lead, which we do. Only difference is now it crashes slightly less!! Great tour 👍

😂😂 we do use an official Apple lead so I need to make sure I don’t change it! You’re the third person to suggest bedding in the wardrobe so I think we’d be daft not to try it 👍🏼 Thanks for checking in 🙏🏼

Awesome vans, I’m on my 2nd van although not a California, used as our daily if needed too but not often. Not had a car for a while now and don’t miss one either 👌👍

I've just today picked up a 2013 5.1 Cali se just like yours. What a fantastic vehicle! I'm made up with it already and I've only driven it up from Devon to Yorkshire😂 46mpg tho, what a little star.

@jimclark830 that’s the biggest thing for me, how well it drives! We’ve done 40k miles in 5 years and it still drives extremely well, better than transporter vans 👌🏼

Nurdy cali notes.. I have a 2013 identical Mine has done 200k miles and has a character dent in the side.. New Engine at 175K other than that no big issues.. Replaced the driver's side door switch cluster as the water drips from the canopy cover directly onto it when the window is open. AC Power has dropped over the years and I really should replace the leisure batteries.. But even now it's enough for about 24hours of reasonable use ( fridge, laptops, chargers etc ) Overhead locker I never found a good use for.. In fact I found a tub of E45 cream in it that was put in there the year I bought it 2013 the other day and since I had never opened the locker since it had evaporated and re condensed.. Looked like a drug dealers stash gone wrong.. !!! Wardrobe is best used as storage for duvet and pillows.. Unknow to many there is a custom safe available for the base of it.. Mine is a lot messier !!! It's had a hard life.. attended more than probably 50 festivals and events. I am a commercial photographer and it's my mobile office. Love it. !!!!

Brilliant! Love a van that gets used 👍🏼 E45 cream made us laugh 😂 The overhead storage is very handy when you’re sleeping in the lower bed.

Hi 👋🏼 We have the Duvalay freshtec which is the premium model and it’s 5cm thick. They’re very subjective but we love it. It’ll never replicate a proper mattress at home but we sleep so well on ours in the van, whether it’s one night away or two weeks away. Treat your old bones 🤩

We’ve had numerous thing. First was a bucket with a seat 😂 didn’t use that. Then a Thetford 335 and we now have a Bivvy loo. Never really found anything really works and only ever use them in emergencies.

@@Professionalmoochers thanks for that, we are relatively new to the game and planning adventures in our T5, prostate cancer means the loo is more of a necessity for me. We have purchased a thetford so we’ll see how that goes. You are definitely our favourite KZfaqrs, videos are a good length to binge and go back to. Keep up the good work.

What weight dose the upper bed take?

Hi, I’m not sure there is an official weight limit but we’ve heard of couples much heavier than we are, sleeping up top with no issues. We jump up, turn over without being careful etc, and had zero issues so it’s a pretty sturdy construction 👍🏼
