This is a series I've begun just capturing the ambient scenery from Red Dead Redemption by Rockstar Games. In the game, if you are outside and leave the controller alone for approximately 2 minutes, the camera will pull away and observe the world.

This video explains why I prefer RDR over GTA. Don't get me wrong, GTA's great, but this game, man...

RDR actually cares about establishing a consistent atmosphere and world for the whole game. Something that transports you to somewhere else. GTA is just a mish-mash of weird satirical shit.

100% agree. RDR with both 1 and 2 has created a much deeper story and universe and has created an emotional bond with us and the characters/environment that GTA simply does not create (Niko's story would be the closest if I had to pick one). Every GTA game has a new cast of characters and story with little tie in from the other games, which therefore doesn't create the level of continuity that RDR has (especially since the 3D and HD Universes are separate).

There is something raw and unprocessed in the RDR 1 ambience videos. That makes them better than RDR 2 vids. Amazing work. Please do not delete the playlist.

I work for CA State Parks in the Sierras...the other day I had to spend my first night at the old mining ghost town of Bodie state historic park. I woke up early to have my coffee, watched the sunrise, the local rancher hearding the cows back to ranch, and I listened to this track. Thank you for these uploads. Still listening in 2020

@@justbliss909 thanks for the kind words. I encourage anyone to at least look up Bodie online and definitely see it in person if given the chance. So much history! I feel positive that this could have been one of many locations that inspired Rockstar San Diego. Bodie is the real deal and a true window into the past.

The banjo plucking sound from 08:00 is used and extended and remixed a bit when you first play as John in RDR2. Curious detail I never noticed until now.

Did you play RDR2? What did you think of it?
@AksenowtCc
@AksenowtCc 4 жыл бұрын
@@Letter_J I think RDR2 gives much less "western" vibes for many reasons. The location is the first reason, but it's the least significant and the most acceptable. The musics and the ambient sounds really annoyed me in RDR2, I felt like they really didn't fit. Another point I really feel is about the gameplay and the cutscenes. Playing RDR was like watching a Tarantino movie, the dialogues were on point, John had a strong and aggressive voice and a strong charm. But I feel that the way the cutscene were directed was crucial to how you feel John's character. RDR2 has this huge realism, it makes you LOVE Arthur Morgan and you really feel you are living his life, during the game. You care for him, cause the game is really made up to feel all Arthur's feelings. Still, I didn't get those strong emotions John gave me, even if I loved even just riding my horse in the snow, as Arthur. I see the difference as: RDR is like watching a spaghetti western, or a Tarantino movie (more, because of the characters), while RDR2 is like living Arthur's life on your skin, or watching a documentary, meaning: a more real scenario, a real life. Both games are masterpieces. But for the "action game" gameplay, I go for RDR1.
@Letter_J
@Letter_J 4 жыл бұрын
@@AksenowtCc I agree. They didn't nail the atmosphere this time. And atmosphere is up to the art, and the art is off across the board IMO. Models, texture work, color palettes, animations, sound design, voice acting, writing. I just didn't feel the energy, passion and authenticity I felt when playing RDR amd it comes down to these things. They also relied too much on graphical effects for the sake of it, forgetting about fundamental elements of good art. Or maybe the best artists they had have been wed out by R*'s employee treatment. I believe that most people who call RDR2 GOAT didn't even play RDR.
@jvk1770
@jvk1770 4 жыл бұрын
@@AksenowtCc Well said! RDR2 is a work of art, don't get me wrong, but I just don't think the majority of the action sequences fit the vibe that RDR2 ultimately aims for. There are so many missions in the RDR2 story which just totally kill the immersion for me, because they're just "gun down the waves of anonymous henchmen/lawmen shooting at you". The final mission at the end of Chapter 2 is one of the biggest WTF moments in the story for me because of this - it's so obvious that mission is designed for a shootout purely for the sake of it and made zero sense. Don't even get me started on Guarma. That sort of action worked in RDR1 though, because I think there was a suspension of disbelief, as the gameplay is generally less realistic than it is in RDR2, by comparison. RDR2 is at it's best when I'm just out doing my own thing, as good as the story is most of the time. It's just those over the top action sequences every now and then which strike me as really out of character. The game generally should have been more "hardcore", but I get that just doesn't sell as well. You make an interesting point about how you didn't feel the same emotional attachment - I think that's the same for a lot of people; Marston's on a pretty epic quest in RDR1 and you know you've got to get him to the end of it, whereas in RDR2 the whole story is really an epilogue to Arthur's life in the gang - from the very first mission you know it's going downhill, getting closer to the inevitable (which is kind of the point, to be fair). As a sandbox, in RDR1 you were just thrust out into the old west with a job to do, whereas in RDR2 there's always that sense that you're on borrowed time.

@MORGAN SAVENAY-BURLEY A lot of the things you guys loved about the first game are exactly what I am feeling about the second game, probably because I played rdr2 first. So, although I respect your opinions, I think you guys are less inclined towards rdr2 because you played rdr1 first and you already felt all these emotions. When a game tries to recreate what you love, it just won't work because the "magic" of experiencing it for the first time goes away. Since I played rdr2 first, all of the feelings of immersion and atmosphere are there, its just that you guys don't experience it like I do because you already felt these with rdr1.

They got rid of the layered stems approach to the background music in RDR2. Now it's more small melodies that play continuously like so many other open world games. I have yet found another game that has used the same stems approach to create an immersive experience. RDR1 is the only game that had that uniqueness to it.

Not much here just the railroad tracks on the edge of Mexico and near the entrance to the US and you would think that there wouldn't be very many people out this far as it is just sandy ground, wild looking bushes, wind blown trees and a train track taking passengers from Mexico into the US and vice versa and for those on foot the ones in Mexico wanting to cross over to be free and the others wanting to cross to get away from the law, I hear the train coming and heading up from Casa Madrugada to the US near Thieves Landing.
