Just Roaming Design on the border of Oregon and Washington developed a very interesting hydronic heated floor system for my Ford Transit 350HD. This video covers the laying of the heat transfer plates, pex piping and final Baltic birch top layer, finishing the job! I also check out Sam’s continuing Adventure Wagon Project. Your dedication to this is paying off. That lizard skin texture really is gnarly stuff once dried. I think the combination of all your thermal solutions will really give you a lot of comfort down the road.

This is similar to how it’s done on upper floors in a wood frame house. Just applied under the plywood between the joists. The metal plates help to radiate the heat.

Just a slight correction of what you said about the transfer plates, you said they reflect heat which is incorrect. Heat transfer plates are made of aluminum and aluminum just like copper is a very conductive metal. If you were to take a 12" piece of aluminum tubing and heat one end with a blowtorch it would only be a few seconds before the other end was too hot to hold in your hand, this is conductive heat transfer. The hot propylene glycol antifreeze transfers heat to the PEX, then heat transfers from the PEX to the flooring and transfer plates which then distribute the heat energy over a wider area of the floor without the transfer plates where the PEX lines were would be nice and warm, but in between the lines would be much cooler.

After your insulation, flooring for the system and top floor, and ceiling, how much headroom was left?

Hi, I'm very happy to see your work! I am writing to you from Italy in the Lake Garda area and I would like to know what material you used for the floor because in Italy I have not found an insulating and at the same time robust material. could you advise me? thanks mauro

Similar to a material called COOSA board. I LOVE GARDA!

By the time you have finished everything to your specifications, you'll probably need a new van :). JaYoe!

Is there a way to shut off just the floor heating without turning off anything else connected to the hydronic system? What I'm asking is, what if you want a warm shower but don't want the floor heated?
@Seqhael
@Seqhael Жыл бұрын
Yeah... you just put a valve in, or a solenoid valve to open/close the circuit from a button

I'm late to see this one, but why did you choose a hydronic system over an electric radiant system? Seems the electric system would be much simpler and more efficient.

It makes no sense to lay wooden panels (insulation) on the pipes! the reflected heat should be easily transferred to the air and not trapped between the two insulators!
