Vantrue asked me to review their N2s dash cam, so I said I would as long as I could give it away to one of my viewers!
The lack of planning in this video is amazing, but I do look at where you should mount your dash cam on your windscreen.

Me: "I'm having trouble fitting this to my wipeable area." Wife: "I think he meant in the car..." The Vantrue does look more natural, and copes better with images that have a wide range of lighting intensities.

My first dashcam had an inward facing camera. I once pulled out of a car park into the path of a police van, they flashed their headlights at me a few times but didn't stop me but I pulled over to have a look at the footage to try and work out how I had missed them. Turns out I just didn't look! I always took more care coming out of that car park after that. The position of the camera was easy with that one as it was a work van it just went where the rear view mirror would be on a car.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen. It said, ‘Parking Fine.’ So that was nice. Always enjoy your content Ash, keep up the good work making our roads a safer place =)

Something funny: I was driving down the motorway with my wife... And she turned to me and screamed, "Honey, slow down! You're going over 100mph!" I then turned and calmly said to her, "and so are you." Anyway, another great video, still managed to be educational and entertaining when reviewing a product.

A man only reverts to reading the manual when his Mrs pipes up and says "give it here, I'll sort it out for you" Great video Ashley. I thought the Viofo was more neutral in the daytime (Vantrue a tad overly sharp and over exposed), but the night footage of the Vantrue is very good.

Great quality camera, Hopefully the car manufactures are here reading and will read my next comment. I wonder when they are going to start putting in discrete power sockets in the roof for cameras, both front and rear USB ones perhaps. Oh and very brave of you to film in those busy car parks after the hit and run.

Ha! “pluck em and file em” as Flossy Carter would say for instructions! 😆 Looks a great bit of kit. I will say that I had no clue about the ‘wipeable area’ reasoning, even though it ought to be obvious. I wouldn’t have blocked my view with mounting one, but I wouldn’t have been paying any attention to the wipeable area so thanks for the advice 👍🏻 Thanks for the GAW chance and yes, please send it to me 👍🏻🙂

Well, guess it's worth a try from one of your Scottish viewers Ashley!! - Love your videos - The Vantrue looks really good, although your eyes look a bit creepy on the internal night time view 🤣My test was cancelled due to lockdown (should have been 11th January, but now rebooked for May 😪) I'm so ready too, luckily I have my own wee car to keep up practice in - driving up & down to work and for essential shopping, thanks to my hubby supervising me. (I'm 57, so this prize would make an old lady very happy 🤣)

I cracked up when you said " I regret saying I'd give this away" and then hinted to vantrue 😂 I didn't actually know about setting it up in the non-wipeable area, I would probably just try to hide it from view as much as I could (e.g. roughly behind my mirror on the right). Did you hear about the picket line of driving instructors, shouting 'what do we want! More parallel parking. When do we want it! In you're own time'. I said that on my exam to lighten the mood, examiner didn't laugh, but he did passed me first time so not all bad.

i dont have anything funny to say really, but overall i am super impressed with the image quality of the Vantrue camera, the difference between the two is extremely narrow, the vantrue definatley has a sharper image, but the Viofo seems to be smooth in its appearence, overall i would probably pick the Viofo myself if i was to pick one at all, but if your gonna give away the Vantrue i would be super happy to take it off your hands because i feel safe when i have a dashcam recording while driving. Ps i love your channel, i have been watching since the days of Erins lessons and have picked up alot of tips from you, so i appreciate every single tip/trick that you show. so ty :)

Talking about mounting, when I had my Corsa, I mounted the camera right behind the rear view mirror. When sitting in the driving seat you could not see it at all. Was a bit of a pain to get the memory card out, but I rarely had to do that. The Golf has a smaller mirror though so I don’t know how well it will hide a camera. Certainly wouldn’t hide that big beast of a thing.

Ashley Neal, thank you for the opportunity to be apart of this - please send it to me. Your videos have taught me that patience and anticipation go a long way on our roadways! Human error is bound to occur, and when they do, wouldn’t we all want our mistakes to be so easily forgiven? I will be driving as a career for almost 3 years now, and I will never understand the selfishness and ignorance I see on display by other drivers. We all should treat driving as a strict privilege, a privilege that should be shared amongst all drivers on our roadways.

N2 for me; or not to be? That is the question. Winging it like a true pro, not a 🦅 in sight 😜😊. In the event that you can "send it to me" I will give it to my parents as they currently have two cars; only one dashcam (Nextbase) which I gave them for Christmas. The N4 that recently came to me will definitely get wired into my old Classic as it also has a rear camera. Your review really does confirm just how good these are compared to others for the ££. The interior view is not a feature that I would use; think along the lines of 7 years bad luck lol but it would benefit an Uber driver. One of my pals has picked up "dodgy" customers in the past but I won't repeat the stories here. At least he lived to tell the tale 🤔. Nice one Ashley. Keep pumping out the content. Stay safe 👍👍.

My work van is fitted with a dashcam by insurance company and couple of years ago it were mot time. It failed because the dashcam was fitted in the place where the rear view mirror would usually be but there isn't a mirror because its a Ford Transit. So the garage moved the dashcam further up the windscreen so now when you watch any footage from the memory card all you see are silhouette's because the glass has a top tint! So now i send the van to another garage where it passes with the dashcam refitted further down.

Vantrue exposes better, it makes the video brighter than how it is outside - which is exactly how it should be for better visibility incase of an unwanted event. - Viofo looks like a"pro" camera like if you would be filming with a Sony A7, it doesn't over expose and it gives you a cinematic feel, and at night time there is so much noise in the picture

Great video Ashley, the night quality of both of the Vantrue's cameras surprised me too! I mount my dashcam behind the rear view mirror so it's not at all in my view. I also have an interior camera mounted on the passenger A-pillar; primarily to prove I'm paying attention to the road, am not on my phone and wearing my seatbelt as I'm a delivery driver and I'd rather not take the risk. It was also quite funny to see you not 'planning ahead' for once lol.

This dash cam is definitely between the viofo or the vantrue for a budget dash cam, I would personally have the viofo since it’s easier to have a front and rear dash cam instead of 2 . I have the standard viofo A129 duo and it’s lovely

I haven’t been watching your channel for very long, but I enjoy watching a lot, I passed my driving test 1 year and a few months ago but I still find it good to watch because I defo became a more crazy driver when I passed so it’s good to listen to your tips to stay safe on the road, good content mate, keep it up 👍

I always thought the footage from your dashcam was spot on however, the Vantrue had the edge from the off. The sound quality was also a lot better. Great content, as always. 👍🏼

As always, a good and thorough comparison between the two dash-cams Ashley. I echo everything you've said about the one up for grabs. I did note that the clarity of the images seems to be on a 'brighter' scale than your current one, just difficult to get the right balance of sound and image with any dash-cam! I have a Nextbase DUO which isn't the world's best device, but it serves my needs well, although I'm far more untidy than you are and have the wire dangling from the top of the camera into my cigarette lighter! 🤣 Hope I'm in for a chance to win this nice dash-cam. Nice little dashcam, the Viofo is better during the day but the vantrue is sooo much better at night. The Viofo is know for having over exposed night footage.

The Ventrue N2S is, in my opinion, quite superior to the Viofo A129 dash cam. What I wold like to know is, is there a dash cam that can show 'split screen' recordings? One that when you play the sim back, you can see the front and rear at the same time. Personally, I do not want to record the interior of the car. A driving instructor asked his pupil to pull over somewhere safe. A couple of minutes later, the instructor asked "why haven't you pulled over yet?" The pupil replied, " because we're not out of Liverpool yet!" Bang goes any chance of me winning the dash cam, but it's a giggle...........innit!

Quick tip for yourself: if you’re ever doing an after-dinner speech, you say “My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen, sorry I’m late, I just popped to the toilet. And while I was there, I saw some graffiti and it said ‘send it to me.’ Straight away you’ve got them by the jaffas.

(Don't pick this comment, I'd rather it went to someone who needed one more than I do). Looks like a decent unit, especially the night footage, that was immense, but I can't help but think that it was designed for LHD markets. My reason for thinking this is that way, the majority of it can tuck behind the rearview mirror with only the interior cam poking out. Maybe would be a better fit in the UK if it was reversed. Lot of money tho, although i think for that night footage, the price isnt too bad 🤔

I have to say, I'm really impressed with the exterior footage from this dashcam, both day and night, interior not so much, but still useable. We use internal + external camera's in our Cabs, and the interior one has been very useful in catching fare dodgers and even for identifying criminals in the past. Our systems are hardwired and cost considerably more than these, but the benefits for the company I work with really does pay off. They would be overkill in a private car though. For a bit of amusement I have a joke. Q: "Describe yourself in three words". A: "Lazy". I'll see myself out...

Hi Ashley. Great video that was, very informative. I liked the way you compared the Vantrue dash cam with your own Viofo. As a driving instructor myself, I wouldn't use this particular type of dash cam for my driving lessons as I don't record audio or images inside the car, like yourself I expect but only for your educational videos which I've found certain items helpful. I have myself a front and rear dash cam which are connected and synchronised. These days I prefer not to travel anywhere without any form of dash cam protection in my vehicle. Surprisingly good quality at night. Like you not sure about the camera looking back into the car, too wide angle to be of any use as an alternative to having a separate rear facing camera.

Another informative video, thanks Ashley! Initially the Vantrue dashcam look too sharp compared to your existing Viofo cam, but it seems to help with the number-plate reading at least!

Pretty nice camera, nice image, especially at night. I only spotted two issues: [1] Exposure (sharpness?) is a bit high (compare the cloud details on both cameras - a wrong setting maybe?) and [2] The Vantrue image seems a little bit contracted horizontally, the cars (people, street signs etc.) are definetly wider in the VIOFO footage.

Mickey is with his instructor approaching traffic lights. The lights change to red as they approach, but Mickey boots it to go through. As the instructor brings the car to a stop at the line, he asks why Mickey was accelerating to go through a red. “Oh, my mate Ash says not to worry about fresh red - just gun it through and it’ll be ok.” The instructor rebukes him, explains it, and they set off again. As they approach the next set, on red, Mickey slackens off, reducing speed nicely in advance. As they approach, the lights cycle to green. Mickey slams the brakes on slewing to a stop, with horns blaring from behind. “What are you doing?!” yells the instructor. “Well,” says Mickey, “my mate Ash might be coming the other way!” Pick me! Pick me! Greater Manchester - save the postage, you could drop it off! Before you mentioned driving in other countries, I was imagining the rear view was designed with LHD in mind to position behind the centre mirror on the near side.

Personally, I prefer the Viofo, mainly due to overall quality. The Vantrue seems to have a similar picture quality of the Nexbase cameras from Halfords, but that is no criticism.

I have the same Viofo 129 dual, the Vantrue is good. Apparently the Vantrue work better with the WDR.

The Vantrue image is sharper...you can see the surface details of the tarmac on pavement + road. It’s not visible on the Viofo.

The Vantrue device seemed much sharper in both normal and night mode, as an example the Vantrue could pick out finer detail such as the tarmac pattern on the road. I am not keen on the spy feature watching you when driving, personally that would make me uncomfortable knowing I am being recorded picking my nose!

I like the interior camera on the dash cam ...maybe it can pick up something from the rear window ? But wow gotta love that night vision quality would be useful especially for me since I drive from work a lot at 2am ish when it’s darn good review and keep up the videos I enjoy watching them and will continue to do so so I can be as safe as possible with my kids in the car

A great review of a brilliant looking dashcam, the picture quality looks superb and even the cam pointing towards you and passengers is brilliant also. If I was lucky enough to win this camera it would be used for normal safety purposed obviously, but the rear facing cam would be good because I have 3 kids, 2 at 7 and one at 9 (I know great names for them 😆) and it would be great to be able to see what they have been up to (if needed) and settle arguments straight away when downloaded to my PC, no GDPR issues there!
